    Much higher up the pyramid, England colleagues Rice and Rogers weren't too friendly when Declan hacked at Morgan's legs when he was bearing down on goal recently.

    I always liked Stockley. He was a bit limited but our best attacking option when he was with us and I always felt he gave his all for the cause.

    Be fair, he also cleared a lot of corners at the near post. I remember some people saying that was justification for us to keep picking him. Dark, dark days

    Pratley genuinely was really good for us! Stockley was good for about 6 months and then injured his back and became ineffective. I won't have this Pratley slander

    Pratley grabbed that play off final after Naby’s og and dragged us back in to it

    Yes, his Charlton career could be split into before and after his back injury for assessment purposes. Pratley initially got stick then was loved. There are a lot of supporters, including of our club who do not have a good understanding of the game.

    That's a cheeky last line Mutts, weren't you the big Gilbey fan? ;)

    Stockley scored 13 league goals in his best season for us, finishing at the dizzy heights of 17th in the league one top scorers table. Brannagan managed more than that from central midfield.

    Jayden did score one more than Bonne managed that season though, so that's saying something.

    In terms of Gilbey. I wasn't a big fan although I recall him having a brilliant game for MK Dons against us before we signed him. I don't recall similar afterwards. In terms of the comment about fans, I recall Kishishev being a very important player for us and some fans not getting it. Same with Carl Leaburn before that and countless others after that. They pays their money and are entitled to their views but it doesn't mean we should respect those views.

    That's not how I remember it but fair enough. I have an annoying memory for opinions I strongly disagree with. But it's a curse I have to live with. 

    You said Jayden was limited and I agree – although I would put it more strongly than that. I think some players just improve with every passing season once people stop having to watch them every week. I also think players of a certain 'type' get a much easier time than others. 

    He was so poor in his last season that people said he'd suffered nerve damage. I'm not sure this was ever an official explanation for his drop-off. It's either nonsense, half-true, or it's where someone invents a theory that semi makes sense and is adopted as fact.

    This is exactly the hyperbolic retconning I mean. He pushed someone over. 

    What got us back into the game was a brilliant team move he played no part in. Then he got subbed off for tactical reasons.

    He was a highly professional player with an imposing figure. I think these things lead people to believe he was some sort of inspirational figure instead of a player who was a decent utility replacement, who was no part of our first-choice promotion-run midfield, who couldn't dam the cracks in the Championship and who was ultimately disastrous unless played at centre-back in that miserable season to follow. But the Doncaster keeper threw one in off his foot and he pushed someone over so he's a club legend. Great guy but he'd give away possession if you breathed near him
