What is our best starting line up?

8 games in, we’ve seen several players in several positions. We’ve been told that we should more or less have everyone back by the end of the international break.
If you are Nathan Jones, who are you picking for Bristol City, on the presumption that everyone comes back fit.
Feel free to change the formation if you need to.

Although I’ve place TC as one of the WB in my mind he works like Small did during our promotion season as essentially primarily as a winger, which is why I’ve gone for Edwards as the left cb over Bell as he can cover that wide area a bit better than Bell can.

It would involve using TC a lot in attacks with the remaining defence shifting into a 4 effectively.

Worked well enough with Small might work with TC?

Actually I’ve had a bit of a think and this might work & keep the score down a bit

    Mannion-Okonkwo-Brooks
Ramsey - McNamara - Jones-  Bell - Koumieto - Mesik- Edwards
    Challobah - Coventry - Skipp
    Grant - Carey - Campbell

The 10 and right winger is what we haven’t worked out yet. Maybe worth Apter getting a go on the right when he’s fit, if he’s still crap then Grant is our best option. I’d like to see Mwamba in the 10 but probably unlikely that happens so would just go with Carey and hope he rediscovers his goalscoring form

We don’t have the players for 3-5-2. We’d have no threat on the right hand side with this team. Would be so easy for teams to just double up on TC and force us to play to the right where McNamara will do very little going forward

Dropping Coventry who's been really really good in every game before this one is kind of hilarious really. Mwamba has had a good 20 minutes for us, it's true

Has he though personally think he’s been carried by Chalobah. The only game he’s been good in since Chalobah got injured was Portsmouth and even then he messed up an easy pass to send TC 1 on 1.

Mwamba isn’t perfect but I’d like a midfielder who’s actually positive on the ball

That wasn't an easy pass for Christ's sake. Also he was pretty good against West Brom and held us together against QPR too. 'Carried by Chalobah' doesn't even begin to describe his contribution in the first 3 games, and he had a storming final half hour against Preston after Chalobah went off. In summary you're talking rubbish and I'm very cross!!

'oh yeah he was absolutely imperious against Portsmouth literally 2 games ago but that doesn't count because he didn't thread their defence with a first-time half-volleyed through-ball. Carried by a guy who's played 2 and a half games all season'

(Need to see a few games from Edwards to see that he's back to the player he was and Mesik hasn't done anything wrong not be included). RW and 10 were rather difficult

    Nobody can be sure but.......

                     Okonkwo
    McNamara - Jones - Koumieto - Mesik
Challobah or Mwamba- Coventry or Skipp
                      Carey
                     Campbell (Free role)
             Kelman        Leaburn

  • The answer to the question is that no one knows yet.
Why hasn't Harvey Knibbs been given a chance off the bench?

I think Alli’s performance yesterday caused us problems early on. I’d put him on the bench to come on and push at tired legs. Kelman to come in where Grant was, behind Leaburn. Grant out to the right. Leaburn leads the line and we then have the ‘creativity’ coming from the wings. Kelman feeding off of the space he’ll get as Leaburn pushes deep into the box. Out of possession Kelman will have to work hard but he should be dangerous in and around the box to keep him happy.

Good shout, but no Sichenje anywhere?  Really rated him.   A big loss for this season imo.

Need to see more of Knibbs before pushing for him.   I realise you haven’t mentioned him, just saying that’s where I am.

I think we'll end up going back to 532 after the break, but atleast that should put mwamba in cm with skip and cov, Campbell up top with leaburn, Campbell to run the channels with leaburn staying central. Jones, Billy and ivan as the 3, Ramsey wide right, Edwards wide left.
  • I just hope that when we have more fit players to choose from, the gaffer will know who should be in the starting line which could vary slightly according to the opposition's strengths/weaknesses.

The answer to the question is that no one knows yet.
Why hasn't Harvey Knibbs been given a chance off the bench?
Because the basis of him playing isn’t because he’s good it’s because everyone else besides JRC who can only play from the bench has struggled in the 10 position. It’s much easier to give someone who has earned it a chance, opposed to putting someone in as a last resort.

I think everyone wants to see him at least get an opportunity, but if Jones is watching him train and thinks he looks worse than Carey, Grant, JRC and Ouma he should never been stepping onto the pitch
  • When we have everyone back after the break, think we need to switch to a 3-4-3. Completely ignore the ten position as we have no one good enough in that position
    ———————-Okonkwo
    ——-Ramsey — Jones — Koumetio
    Mesik——-Coventry—chalobah —Edwards
    ———Grant ——Leaburn —Campbell

issue is the wing backs and would prefer Mesik on the left but McNamara/Ramsey not attacking enough for the right. Maybe could play alli/nkeng there?

Pretty sure he signed a long term contract in Feb.   I have a very sketchy signal, so can't confirm atm.

Either way, he'd be in my starting 11 or bench if currently fit.
