Surprised at how many are leaving Bell out. Same as last season, we’ve looked much better this season with him on the pitch than whenever he hasn’t been there. I’d have him above Mesik and Edwards for left back

Really? Mesik has been brilliant. Bell is a very good player sure but the formation change hasn't suited him. With Koumetio out he's probably our best LCB option

Decent player, but lacks a bit of pace to play LB. Was best in a back 3.

I actually think Kelman in the 10 role could be interesting, he might not have the mobility for it but him picking up those seconds off Leaburn and either playing people or testing the keeper could work in theory

Saying that I was interested by Ouma starting against Stoke so maybe I'm interested in masochism

Kelman is definitely not a number 10. He’s best playing on the last defender and making runs in behind. Playing him as a 10 would pretty much remove most of what he’s good at from his game, and make him do more of things he’s not good at

Mesik has been good, and I really like Edwards. But what we lack is players very comfortable in possession and Bell is one of our few players that excel in that area. Having him and Ramsay as the full backs will make us a much better footballing team which is what we are trying to be

I think at home we should keep the 4-2-3-1, keep trying different 10 and RW options until we stumble on something that works. If Apter can get back fit I’d even like to see him given a game, maybe that can help get Carey going again

Away from home I can see us going 3-5-2, but I’m honestly not sure this is a great idea with our lack of attacking options at right wing back. I suppose it’s better than getting dicked away from home like we have been. But Ramsay and McNamara are probably both better at RCB than RWB. It would probably have to be Bindon RCB and Ramsay RWB

                   Okonkwo

    Mac     Jones     Billy     Edwards

                 Cov      Chab

    Grant         Carey         TC

                     Leaburn

surprised by those leaving Leaburn out of their best XI.....Ramsey on his day probably starts over Danny Mac, but that's not a given.....the No 10 position is the hardest to fill at the moment

If we’re trying to play better football then Ramsay should start ahead of McNamara

Put Kelman in the 10, he can't be any worse than the others who have tried.

The issue we have is that our 10's have been playing too far away from the rest of the midfield, playing a striker there won't help. I'd prefer a shift to a 433 instead. Ideally one of the 8's is a mobile midfielder who can drive forward

    Okonkwo
    Ramsay Jones Koumetio Bell/Mesík
    Coventry Skipp Chalobah
    Grant Leaburn TC

Which of these is the mobile midfielder?

We might not like it but if you want to play this you probably need Ouma in there

Agree we don't have the set up for it. The answer is probably Mwamba in all honesty but he can't be in out best XI yet. I guess with that three Coventry does the running, it isn't his strongest skillset but he's the most mobile of the three even if that is a low bar!

On current showing I would be starting Mwamba there, he seems to have the most fitting skillset of any of our current CMs who are fit for the #8 role, ideally we'd bed a youngster in his debut season more softly but to me he seems the most rounded of our options, which is a sad reflection of his senior pro teammates more than anything.

    Ramsay    Jones      Billy     Edward’s

    Grant             Chalobah.       Cov.       Tc

                   Kelman.         Leaburn

im picking Grant because we have nobody else, if we did I wouldn’t pick grant.

out of this side 3 are new signings, Grant gets in by default, so 2.Danny Mac and Mesik could also start, I think this says it all about our transfer business

aka the Good Luck Conor formation
It's a diamond and playing 2 defensive midfielders hasn't worked. I also think Miles and Charlie could work.

I'd stick with last season's setup away from home. The stats show we're not a fluid, pass and move side that creates chances in abundance or dominates possession, so I was surprised NJ felt that approach would work on the road. Perhaps the high profile win at West Ham created a false sense that everything was going to plan. The reality is we've conceded 14 goals in five away games this season, including the cup.

Watching us pin our hopes on a centre back taking long throws on the weekend was hard to stomach. Our goals and points away at Middlesbrough, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday all came from either long throws or a goalie kick, and I do hope that isn't the attacking blueprint we rely on by October.

Think there’s a debate for every single player except Okonkwo Jones TC and Chalobah (who won’t even be fit for half the season). Not sure if I should pleased with the number of options we have or nervous that there’s very few players who are clear standouts.

I’d add Koumetio to that list, he was excellent pre-injury. And Bindon has been poor so Koumetio is pretty nailed on to start

Would need a diamond or box midfield in there though otherwise we get overrun in the midfield battle and as we've seen it's so hard to win the game if you lose the midfield battle. But a diamond or box means leaving out TC and Grant which would be mad.

How much would a Cullen or Gallagher (as they were in the 19/20 season) transform this side.

Mobile, good ability on the ball, ability to do the defensive work but can pick a pass and make the right runs into the box.

God what I'd give for one of those. My right leg, probably both tbh.

Personally agree but there can be an argument you could even play Bell or Mesik there. To be honest I think we have built an outrageously good defence in terms of quality and depth

I’ve heard of 2 left feet, but not 2 right legs.

I would love to see this front two lines start a match together

    ———————--Mbick—————————
    —-TC—————-Leaburn————Grant—-

i think leaburn could cause havoc from behind the striker or even bombing down the right. All academy as well. Come on, youd love to see it.
