Not a stat I made up for once! It’s someone else who made it up this time.
Came across it thanks to this past Monday’s NTT20 weekend review. It takes your club’s PPG, the PPG of all of your combined opponents and multiplies them.
- Your club’s PPG - self explanatory measure
- Your combined opponents’ PPG - how hard has your fixture list been so far
- PPI (both multiplied) - how well are you doing in spite of a the strength of your opponents

At the first international break, here’s the top 8 for opposition PPG:
1. Stoke 1.73
2. Millwall 1.63
=2. Preston 1.63
4. Charlton 1.57
5. Sheff Utd 1.56
6. Burnley 1.53
7. Norwich City 1.50
8. Derby 1.47
Charlton have had the fourth toughest set of fixtures so far according to the PPG of the teams they have faced.
And here’s the top 8 for PPI (your PPG x oppo PPG):
1. Stoke 2.82
2. West Ham 2.52
3. Swansea 2.41
4. Wolves 2.36
=4. Charlton 2.36
6. Middlesbrough 2.35
7. Southampton 2.29
8. Millwall 2.25
Charlton are amongst some good company (mostly those you’d expect to be at the top end of the table) for the purposes of comparing strength of performance relative to opposition strength.9 -
Initially surprised by this. But our fixture list has been extremes in terms of the table. 4 of the top 7 and 4 of the bottom 6. None against the mid table 11. Early days to really judge teams though. I don't really expect QPR or Stoke to be up there for long.0

I know I shouldn't open threads like this, but......
Too early into the season to be analysing stuff like this. "X" team could be in the bottom 6 because we beat them. Had we lost to them then they would have 3 more points & us 3 less. Derby for example. They have 5 points & us 12. Reverse the result from 1st game of the season & they would have 8 and us 9. Probably a place or two between us and we would be lower mid table.
Can't really judge until everyone has played everyone else, or at least 15-18 games have gene by.
But I suppose it's a bit of fun during the International break1 -
Agree with you here goflie, will be more instructive in the next international break. Still interesting now but hard to take anything out of it yetgolfaddick said:I know I shouldn't open threads like this, but......

Is this essentially the same as the strength of schedule you (I think) were doing before @Callumcafc?0

It feels like that single result against West Ham is the sole reason why we're high in both the real table, and that one0

Not much difference to my system last season which was widely ridiculed. I.e. we beat West ham away which so far is worth 3 point gains on Wrexham, Derby and Wolves who all lost there. These results are now baked in to the table. However, lots of people seem to find that difficult to comprehend.
