Statbank & Players Marks

Due to my onset of mild Alzheimers, or maybe just old age, I find that I tend to make mistakes with the stats which I find very annoying and therefore as of today I am stepping down from this task and leave it open to others to take over. If no-one comes forward then after each game I will put up list of players involved to the game and leave it for others to do more, should they wish. I have done these stats for about 10 years and feel now is a good time to bow out

I’ll see over the weekend to the last couple of missing statbanks.

If anyone is keen to get involved in taking forward the regular responsibility of this, could you drop me an Inbox message over the coming days please and we can chat.

    Thanks again Lancs

Seconding AFKAs thanks for all the work you've done with the stats @lancashire lad. Even without health related issues, it's easy for errors to creep in when you're having to deal with data that comes in in an idiosyncratic way, and then feeling like you're having to doublecheck yourself for health reasons doesn't help. Enjoy a well-earned rest from banging your head against the spreadsheets.

Thanks for all your hard work, Lancashire Lad.  Time for a well-earned rest.

At 86, I am in a similar position. I have not been diagnosed with any ailment, but my many memory lapses and confusions are now undeniable. I have a particular problem with names, which has caused me embarrassment a few times. I recently posted something which was rightly ridiculed because I had confused two players (for no good reason). If that is the worst that happens to me over the next few years, I shall not complain.

I live in the Caribbean, and the extreme heat has been almost incessant since April. Only now are we getting some relief. I do not know how big a part that has played.

May I add my appreciation of your efforts LL. I have always been a bit of a Statto myself, so I like the way the final marks you present are usually such an accurate reflection of how I saw the game. The wisdom of the crowd! Best wishes.

    I will have to give you a mark of 9. (sorry don't do 10's unless they've scored a hat-trick!)

  • So sorry to hear that @Lancashire Lad.

one of my happy places on a Sunday morning, after having reflected on the previous day’s match.

I seldom [in fact never] jump on a thank you band wagon but in this instance feel I must.I seldom gave marks but always looked at them and the stat bank.Always got a bit miffed when a fellow lifer picked you upon a mistake .
I am really grateful for your work over the years and doubt anyone will pick up the batton.Yours would be very big shoes to fill.
  • Thanks for all you work on these down the years, and all the best.

I'd echo the comments @lancashire lad, and found it immensely valuable, so much so that definitely don't want it to drop, and this gap in Charlton games might give someone an opportunity to pick up the mantle. I'll ping @AFKABartram and hopefully you'll be able to enjoy either myself or someone else keeping it going. Wishing you all the best and thank you for all your efforts.

I'll add my thanks to LL too and I always enjoyed looking at the Statbank to see how we, as fans, rated players.  I appreciate it's a tough task to manually collate all the marks and then update tables and research official stats.  I wouldn't want to do it.  I really hope someone will continue the good work.

There must be someone in the CL universe that could possibly develop an app or a web-based application to enter the ratings online and then generate the tables?
