    Sussex could have won the lot if they'd nabbed the last Warwickshire wicket a few weeks ago, and maybe skipped the points penalty too

    Yeah it's the Warwickshire loss that ultimately cost us , oh that and losing to Hampshire at home who stunk the place out for the rest of the season but turned up at Hove actually looking like a competent cricket team.

    Probably still got a few outs from the current squad (Simpson to Notts, heavy rumours Glocs have re signed Tom Price) but if Robinson gets a 2 year Central Contract at the end of the week we might actually have the wiggle room to get some quality in with his wages off the books.

  • Finch is ridiculously unlucky to only play 1 county championship game, where he scored 83 opening the batting in the win at Lancashire. He got 304 runs at 38 in the one day cup, so it's not as if he's been out of form.

    Benjamin obviously should play ahead of him, but it does feel that it's easier to leave him out, rather than one of the "big names" or one of the talented youngsters like Dawkins.

    And it does seem amazing to go from being our main keeper in the CC and One Day Cup last season (and doing very well with the gloves) to not keeping at all this season, and instead just playing as a white ball batsman.

    Thanks for the averages @Addick Addict.

    Finch hobbled into the pavilion in a protective boot when the players came off at the end of the Gloucs match. Not quite sure what he has done to himself but I hope he makes a full recovery.

    The averages are interesting:
    - what Dawkins might have done if his form hadn’t dropped off so sharply;
    - the key contributions Benjamin, SNE, DBD and Muyeye made with the bat;
    - James Taylor’s figures were excellent in just two matches on loan for us in May. I see Yorkshire have now signed him from Surrey on a three year contract;
    - getting Mahmud and / or Khaled back next summer would be very welcome. Bangladesh have a one off test here at the end of May, so they will be in the UK anyway (Mahmud for sure);
    - Parky’s figures are nowhere near what he needs for Kent to offer him a new deal. A real shame, he’s a likeable lad, but maybe young Foreman should be given a contract. And there’s Lintott coming in by all accounts.

    Don't think you can under estimate the influence of Adam Hollioake..I am sure Surrey will pinch him back soon enough but well done Kent.Milnes the stand out for me
  • Milnes reminded me of Saggers this season - in his determination to take wickets and be the spearhead of the attack

    Kent's spinners took the fewest number of wickets of all the 18 counties - 17 wickets in total at 73.53. Although we are unlikely to produce spin-friendly tracks It is definitely an area we need to improve on.

  • This season in Div 1 Jack Leach got 36 wickets at 20, with an economy rate of 2.29. While in Yorkshire, Dom Bess got 32 at 31, and scored 602 runs averaging 32. Both dumped by England.

  • Confusing why Cohen was given a new deal this year anyway, though I assume he wasn't on much.

    Evison was superb as we won the one day cup in 2022, a shame he never really kicked on.

    I think Cohen was given a contract because, with is pace and having supported him for the two years he was injured, they wanted to see if he could kick on which, unfortunately, he didn't.

    "The weather has remained kind: a contentious bad light call denied Northants, who needed 23 to win with four wickets in hand, victory at Derby in the penultimate week of the season, meaning Kent took a four-point buffer into the final round, not a 12-point deficit."

    That is surely factually incorrect? Northants received eight points for drawing against Derbyshire instead of 16 points for winning, meaning that they would have had a four-point and not a 12-point lead had they won.

    lt's irrelevant anyway as the ultimate gap was 20 points (and that ignores the five-point deduction) but, perhaps, the journalist, Will McPherson, might want to tone down the rhetoric that Kent were in any way "lucky". Kent won eight and lost two matches against Northants' five wins and four defeats. Luck plays a part but not to the degree that McPherson infers.

  • People online reckon Parkinson has one more year? I too thought he was out of contract but not sure !

    This is the only announcement I can find in relation to Parkinson signing any contract

    Leics have had the 8 point penalty for this season reversed. No decision has been made yet about the 19 points they lost from the game, which would relegate Essex if reversed.

    Given Crawley's FC overall average is 31.62 (just 12 hundreds in 274 innings) and was 27.63 this season, his List A average is 32.68 (not that he'll play 50 over cricket anyway) and his T20 average is 26.75, I'm not sure how much we should be paying him. Dawkins, who is more than eight years younger, had a bad run in the latter part of this year but still averaged 35.18 (34.93 overall) in the CC. Crawley won't be available for the 50 over comp either. Not saying we shouldn't re-sign Crawley but every player has his price and we shouldn't be paying over the top for him.

    Crawley's also probably independently wealthy anyway and equally, we are on a relatively level playing field in Div 1, if he wants to get back into the England set up then he has to find another county at that level, willing to pay more and that he is happy to uproot for.

    If it becomes clear to him then he's not going to get back into the Test side then I'm sure that white ball will become his focus. He's won't get a gig at the IPL at the moment but could make a decent living with all the other various franchises that are available to play in.
  • I'm not sure playing in the BBL suggests that white ball is his focus. It's a no brainer to play the BBL, as it's a great place to go in our winter, and doesn't impact on any domestic commitments.

    It's when players turn up in the Albanian Supersmash tournament that you realise they've gone down that path  :D

    I wasn't suggesting that his focus would be on white ball right now but if he sees no pathway back to the Test team the n I think it will.

    The BBL is certainly a good standard but it doesn't attract the best overseas players in the world. In this year's final, the Sydney Sixers didn't have an overseas and the Scorchers had Laurie Evans and David Payne. So that's one overseas international cap between the two sides. The reason for this dearth of stars is that the BBL clashes with four other T20 comps going on at the same time as theirs (plus there are Australia internationals that go on at the same time) albeit that some do flit in and out.

    why doesn't he play 50 overs, is it becasue he gets drafted for that other nonsense?

    He doesn't just play in that "comp", he captains a team too.
