Nice bit about Dawkins in this

Zak would have been allocated a 100 side this year, as a centrally contracted England player. Next year he'll have to go up for auction.
So far his T20 record is nothing special. Maybe he doesn't have enough "funky" shots?1 -
I think that's a very fair point. The best white ball players are 360 degrees and comfortable playing ramps, reverse sweeps and pulls etc etc. It's something he can work on consistently playing and will have to if he's going to rival the best, even in England, in the T20 or ODI teams.killerandflash said:Zak would have been allocated a 100 side this year, as a centrally contracted England player. A lot of wicket-keeper movement in the CC:
John Simpson - Sussex to Notts
Kyle Verreynne - Notts to ???
Harry Duke - Yorkshire to Middlesex
Josh Blake - Surrey to Leics
Ben Cox - Leics to Warwickshire (rumour)
Alex Davies - Warwickshire to Northants (rumour)
Chris Cooke - Glamorgan to retirement
George Bell - Lancs to Essex (rumour)
1 -
The Alex Davies one would surprise me but I guess Cox and Kai Smith as keepers isn't too bad.Addick Addict said:A lot of wicket-keeper movement in the CC:

Options triggered in the deals of both Northeast and Milnes meaning they’re here until 2028, good news5

Dudgeon comes down to Hove on a 2yr deal0 -
A player I don’t know what to think about. Was outshone in the bowling department this year but did provide some useful lower order runs.MarcusH26 said:https://sussexcricket.co.uk/news/sussex-complete-signing-keith-dudgeon?

Overall I think if Kent can tie one of the Bangladeshis down for the whole season instead that would be a better deal5 -

I don't really know what to think about it either. He's basically coming here to lead our attack with Robinson likely to sign a Central Contract this week and Crocombe going up the M23 to that lot. The rest of our seamers have Chuks level injury records so there's a lot of pressure on him to be the main man.fenaddick said:

Probably sensible from a Kent perspective to target the 2 Bangladeshis or one and a top order bat.1 -
Interesting timing to trigger the options now, when their deals still had another year anyway.fenaddick said:Options triggered in the deals of both Northeast and Milnes meaning they’re here until 2028, good news
A good player for us, but as an overseas the bar is always a bit higher as to what you hope for.fenaddick said:

The Milnes and Northeast extensions to the end of the 2028 season seem perfect. The former was brilliant last season in all codes and the latter provides us with that older head. All I would say, in the case of Northeast, is that experience doesn't mean that he is a fixture in the side as form is everything especially with a couple of young guns knocking on the door.
Dudgeon was excellent with the bat and ball at times. However, 42 wickets in 13 matches at 32 apiece and a batting average of 19 doesn't make him irreplaceable. With all rounders like Stewart, Ekansh and potentially Foreman too, we are better served going for the likes of Hasan Mahmud (26 wickets in 4 games at 16) and Khaled Ahmed (16 wickets in 3 matches at 21), who have that capability of regular running through a side.7 -
The advantage of Dudgeon is that he isn't in the S Africa team, therefore is an all season overseas pro, rather than one flying in and out between international callups.
England host Bangladesh at the end of May for a Test, then they have 5 ODIs in Pakistan in June.3 -
Well here's something no one expected. Both Directors of Mens and Womens cricket have stepped down
https://www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/simon-cook-lucy-arman-to-step-down-from-kent-cricket-leadership-roles/0 -
Don't know anything abous Arman, but that's a shame about Cook0
-
Note that the article says "their decision". Spot the difference between the two statements because there really isn't any.
Cook says:
“While I don’t yet know exactly what the next chapter will look like, I’m excited by the opportunities that may lie ahead. I leave with enormous pride in what has been achieved and look forward to seeing many more Kent players go on to represent both Kent and England in the future.”
Arman says:
“While I don’t yet know exactly what the next chapter will look like, I’m excited to have a break, refuel myself and continue developing my own self-growth. I leave with a huge amount of pride in what has been achieved and look forward to seeing Kent players representing Kent, Tier 1 and England in the future.”
Cook was waxing lyrically in commentary during the Gloucester game about his seven-year plan and where we were but, perhaps, there was some sort of issue between the Directors of Cricket and the Board albeit that Cook does say that he would like to return to a more hands-on coaching role.1 -
He also says he doesn't know what's next so it's not like he's moving on to bigger and better thingsAddick Addict said:Note that the article says "their decision". Simon Cook, in commentary clearly had plans in place in what he called his "seven-year plan". There has clearly been a fall out of some description.1 -
Yes I was in the middle of amending my comment to reflect that when you pointed this out.fenaddick said:

The most important thing will be that the new DOC has to be someone who will get on with Hollioake. The latter isn't the sort of guy who will pull any punches (well he is a former cage fighter after all) and one would think that Cook had a good working relationship with him.0

strange, he was talking about next season at the comms at the last game of the season, any idea why he has left?0

An opening for Stevo or Denly?1
-
I wouldn't have thought so as a DOC simply because that job is far more wide ranging than just the playing side of things and is more of a strategic role. Interestingly, Cook has said that he wants to get back to being a coach which is why I don't see either of those two, at this stage of their careers, as sitting behind a desk planning the on and off fields aspect of the county including managing budgets. In fact, both are still playing in senior cricket competitions and in the case of Stevens at club level.Starinnaddick said:An opening for Stevo or Denly?
This is the job spec from 2023 from when the job was last awarded:

Well Paul Farbrace has just decided he's not going to be Sussex's DoC and he's off to Lancs....
Cook to Sussex to team up with Walker again?0 -
A strange one given Farbrace had agreed to become DOC. I would and wouldn't be surprised if Cook ended up at Sussex - surprised because he expressed in his leaving statement his desire to go back to coaching but not surprised as he wouldn't have to re-locate and knows what the job entails.MarcusH26 said:Well Paul Farbrace has just decided he's not going to be Sussex's DoC and he's off to Lancs....

What we don't know is why, specifically, Cook resigned at Kent and if he considers the reasons will be replicated at Sussex then I doubt that he will put himself forward. Farbrace has probably moved because he would have no such restrictions re budget at Lancashire and Cook might not want that either at Sussex.0 -
This Farbrace one has come completely out of left field given at the end of the season all his interviews were about how he was looking to wind down and work PT with Walker over the winter and summer to put a squad together.Addick Addict said:

Lancs feels like a real poisoned chalice with all the problems up with there with coaching and off the field management but if anyone can pull together a crisis club it's Paul Farbrace. Only really mentioned Cook because the timing and links feel rather convenient.
Budget is a bit of a mystery at Sussex still , getting Robinson off the books next week and onto a Central Contract will make a bit of wiggle room but I doubt it would be enough to do anything substantial squad wise.1 -
Cook has now issued a statement in which he states "As I leave to return to coaching" so that would seem to definitively rule out a DOC job. For now at least.

As the Sussex job was to be part time, maybe when the offer of a full time job at Lancashire came up, he felt he couldn't turn it down. If he hadn't taken it, then Farbrace would perhaps have been an option for the Kent DoC job!0 -

So, first on were the boys. York won the toss and elected to bat but such was the efficiency of the Kent West bowling and fielding, they were restricted to just 86-6 off their 20 overs. If that was impressive then Kent West's reply was even more so. 91-0 off 6.3 overs and a 10 wicket win with 13.3 overs to spare!Addick Addict said:Good luck today to the two West Kent MCC hubs in their National Finals at Lord's - namely the Boys U15 and Girls U17 in their games against hubs from York and Bradford respectively.
The girls, sadly, didn't quite fare so well. Bradford won the toss and set a competitive 163-5. Kent West never really got going and ended up with 115-4.
As I've said before, Kent West were awarded the National Hub of the Year Award. There are 219 hubs across the country and to have two sides in the four finals (the other two games featured the two younger age groups and took place on the Nursery ground) is simply incredible.
Above all, though, it was a fantastic day for the boys and girls, their coaches and not forgetting the families and friends supporting them. The use of all the facilities to change, dine, train and play on the hallowed turf will always remain with them. The games were live streamed with professional commentators and many players of old including the likes of Mike Gatting and Ed Smith, master of ceremonies, were there. The final results were, almost, incidental.

As expected, no central contract for Crawley0
