Despite their first team usually humble status I have always thought of the Colchester United development system as pretty good, has a good ethos for bringing on young players.
Their academy is very highly thought of relative to the first team's fortunes.  They are one of only two  Cat 2 teams in League 2 (~with Fleetwood) just like ours and they have a fairly fertile territory.  They are competing against Ipswich to the North and West Ham further south so I assume they pick up those who don't quite make it there but having Cat 2 provisions is a clear attraction for players.
