[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]don't know much about him but he obviously seems to have lost his way a bit since his big move to Ipswich so hopefully a change of scenary will do him good. Let's stop all this local lad bollox shall we. He was born in Taunton. I see already that he deserves his place in the team ahead of Waggy despite him never having kicked a ball for us and despite not many ever seeing him in action much. Why is it a lot of fans seem happy to write of Waggy, Solly, Basey etc as not being good enough but as soon as we sign an ex Man Utd player who left with a 2m price tag it's wahoo he must be the dog's. He may well turn out to be but for an attacking midfielder his stats are poor. Compare them to Waggy's. I know whose are the better.

I'm with you on all that.Really not sure what to think about this Martin fella.Might just be the kick up the backside Wagstaff will need from time to time.

Got a lot of sympathy with this, 2M price tag from back in the hyper-inflated prices days is meaningless. Doesn't mean he's lost his way, could just be that he was over-hyped to start with. Parky has still had to scratch around at the nth hour, so I'm not expecting miracles, but it's certainly interesting.

2 mill in the hyper inflated days? Don't remember there being too many big signings in the champ last year.

Have heard of this Lee Martin guy, and remember him coming from AFC but that's it. It amuses me that probably a few people have seen this guy live and they already want him to be in this team. Am with Large on this one. People want him in ahead of Waggy before they've seen him.

I want Waggy to start the first few games this season, I've seen more in his game and how he's improved than I ever saw with Sam; and I'm a Sam liker. A quick guess at that Lee Martin player is that he wants to operate inside, but anyways having Reid and Waggy both pacey and able to go outside all match is going to be about the most exciting for me in errm about ten years. I'm looking forward to see this Martin guy but I want Waggy to start.

We needed another winger, he can play on either side and up front. We've seen with several Dowie and Pardew signings paying a big fee doesn't guarantee quality. Parky's judgement of a player is usually pretty good though and it seems like this is one player he's been after for a while. He's never had a full season of first team football either, might be just what he needs.

Amazed how great this signing is in the opinion of others, like many have ever seen or followed this fellas career !
Or is it the usual he must be great cos he's signed for us trlpe that some fans trot out every time we have a new player
Of course we all live in hope that each one of these signings are the bees knees but even tho I'm no great fan of waggys he does deserve a decent run in the team b4 we jog him on to oblivion

It is great to sign an ex Man U player and one that has played in some of the biggest games, even scoring in one, but surely his best years were 20 years ago?

In all seriousness we still only have two senior, proper, centreforwards signed on and one very green youngster. We still need another striker

Got to admit, I'm a little jealous.

I thought with Burley's Ipswich concections and Lee being a Palace fan, we'd have been interested.

Should be a great signing for you.

I asked a couple of, separate, Ipswich ST holders I know.

    1. "Hmmmmmmmmmmm, well he never did much for us. He can seem a bit slow at times especially for a winger. To be fair to him thought he was never really given much of a chance to prove himself and so he may well do well for you"

    2. "Fast, good ball skills but no end product. We paid a lot of money for him and he has massively underperformed. But maybe a new manager will help him"

Do bear in mind that ST 1. doesn't rate Curbs at all and that plenty of ITFC fans told us that Bent was over rated.

We have got hold of a player that commanded a 2million pound price tag in the the last 3 yrs and has trained and played with the best team in EUrope at that time...

That has to be positive, no??

Maybe. The price tag doesn't mean much now and Utd let him go.

You could say he's been living on being an ex-Man Utd player for a while now.

He clearly has, or at least HAD, something but has had a lot of loans and moves and not really produced.

Now he's in a lower division but will still be expected, by PP and us, to produce something.

I doubt he'll start today but he seems on paper a useful addition to the squad.

We shall have to give him some time and some games to see what he offers and if that is more or less than Waggy, Akpo or anyone else.

he better be good, i cant take another failure. abbott up front with martin behind, reid and wagstaff wide and semedo and racon sitting back spraying quality passes all around, suits me well
  • From the small bits I've seen of him he does have some talent but the 2m price tag means nothing if Roy Keane was the one who bought him.

Basing my excitement on this signing on his loan spell at Forest, which was in this division. They tried to sign him but couldnt agree a fee and he went to Ipswich. He got good reviews at Forest.

I also remember being impressed when he played against us for Plymouth at The Valley.

Said it before and I'll say it again, dont give a monkeys if he takes the place of a home grown player if he is better player.

Believe he will be a success. If we go up he could be a potential perm signing.

Very good point. Keane has a track record of paying crazy money for average players. Priskin, Norsworthy, Gordon, Stead etc etc

He's been on the fringes for a while, so the player has to decide right now if he's going to make it or not.

That usually means one thing - he has to get his head right and get a good attitude.
I guess Parky has already spelled that out to him.

Anyway, growing up and with family in Bromley, he'll get plenty of support.

I have no idea who he is, how good he is, where he plays, what his best position is, whether he's fast or slow, skillful or a battering ram. I have never seen him play.

However, I would just like to say that he's s**t, overpaid (I have no idea how much he is paid), should not be getting a start over any of our homegrown players more senior than the under 13's squad, hasn't scored for us yet, hasn't kissed the badge on his shirt, didn't come along to clean the seats and basically doesn't care as he's a loan player.

    Oh yeah, and he's Pal**e.

    I think that covers it.

According to an interview with him, he says his best position is wide left.

Which is probably where our best player is.

Going to reserve judgement on this till I've seen him a handful of times. I can't at the moment work out where he is going to play

Big patch of green grass in London SE7 surrounded by red seats. It's called The Valley.

I know you said your football knowledge had gone down the pan, but come on man, get with it.
