Not sure how true this is but i've heard that he has been released by Blackpool and is in talk with Notts County.
I don't know what Notts County's budget is like but surely we could challenge in terms of what they are offering?
Finished last season on loan with Barnsley, seems he is willing to drop down the leagues, 6'1, physical and will score goals.

Pretty much what we are looking for?

Aren't we also looking for a big physical front man?

I think he'd be good for this league, maybe too good.

If we're signing Paul Hayes I doubt we'll be looking at him (if he is looking at dropping down to L1)
  • if available and interested at playing in this league and the right wages then yes...but he won't be all those things so no.

It would appear so. I just worry that we are prioritising strengthening the wrong positions right now. We need new CB's

I wouldn't worry about that, need new players in most positions and not every player we are trying to sign will be linked with us in the media.

At this level would have thought he would be a reasonable player.

Would ot worry about CB's in early June, if we are stuck with Mambo and Doherty in August then is the time to squeal.  We'll bring in players in order of availability not necessarily need.

He may be pretty crap in terms of Premiership football, but we're not Premiership quality are we?

I wouldn't go for him as his wages would be way too high, but we're kidding ourselves if we think he's not good enough for us!

I think Harewood would be a great signing, provided we didn't break whatever pay structure we have in place. He's not the best player in the world and by all accounts he sounds like a bit of a twat, but he gets goals wherever he goes, at every level. Let's be honest, this is League 1; if we get Harewood and BWP smashing them in every week and a defence just about good enough to keep out the opposition we'll be laughing. He'd be a decent option in the Championship as well should we get out of this  god awful league

Please be serious, what we pay in a month he'll be wanting in a week.

Way, way out of our price range.

Yeh - well Notts C have a bit of history when it comes to unsustainable and unrealistic signing policies...

Let's see if he goes to Notts County first, shall we?

Very, very few players drop from the PL to L1 for pretty obvious reasons. Harewood has got a reasonable chance of getting a move to a Premiership newcomer like QPR or Swansea or a decent CCC club like Forest or Leeds, why would he go to L1?

I agree that it is more likely that he will go to a prem or champ club, but if Notts C are sniffing about i certainly think we shoudl be as well, although thats not to say we aint but we like to keep it quite.

Magpies boss Martin Allen said: "I know he has a lot of options and
several at Championship level, but if you don't ask you don't get."

Very true, hopefully Powell is asking the same questions with players who have just been released.

Wouldn't Harewood have been at Wet Spam when Powell was there?

If so I'll trust Powell as to whether or not he is the right sort of "character" for our club.

Would be exactly the sort of player I hope we don't sign. Never rated him and always struck me as the sort of sulky player who could have a negative effect on a dressing room.

Scored 5 in 16 for Blackpool and 4 in 10 for Barnsley in the season just gone

Not sure about his character as don't know much about him but if he can score like that at a higher level, is 31 and available/affordable then why not?

Personally I can't see him dropping this low but as BRE says why not ask.

So, Charltonbob, unless Powell speaks to every player you think is good enough, he's not doing his job? Seems a tad harsh!
  • Marlon Harewood?

Our local side here (in D.C.) had a dalliance with him last summer after he left Villa.  So did, apparently, a number of Turkish sides.

His contract demands are extremely unlikely to have declined and he has no end of options to get paid.  Why would SCP waste any time that could otherwise be spent working on obtainable targets that would improve the side?

Yeah. Nice one bob. Shall we ask about Parker whilst we're at it?
