    My memories of D I Gower are more a lame lofted off drive straight to Mid Off. That said, class batsman.

    As for Football Rumours, it's great entertainment putting up crap and then reading people take things so seriously......;-)

    Nah, Gatting was always LBW with his bat in the air.

    I shouldered arms against Ashford's overseas pro, an Aussie fast bowler, for Blackheath CC in a Kent League match in 1985 and lost my off stump. Maybe that is AFKA's memory.

    Yep. He ALWAYS seemed to get out lazilly strolling forward and edging the ball into the seven man slip cordon.

    Have just read it.  Really enjoyed it and my short attention span lasted the whole way through.

    I think Gower was more noted for keeping the slip cordon in business rather than seeing his off-peg get flattened.
