I'll be on the 8:27 Godalming to Waterloo and straight into Brewdog. First day of nationalised SWR. What could possibly go wrong.

Arrived nicely from Leeds yesterday. No chance the trains would have got in on time today. London was heaving with Sunderland fans last night, before, during and after the game. Not sure the locals knew what to make of red flares flying up from them every few minutes. Pleased for Sunderland.

    You’re all mad.

Ebbsfleet to Kings Cross. 19 minutes
King’s Cross to Wembley met line 19 minutes.

    Easy
This but starting at Strood. I was surprised how quick the “high speed” was 😬
I have just looked into this route and Railplanner says no trains running directly between these two stations due to engineering work.

I am no expert on public transport but might be worth checking 👍🏻

So in the end we took the lift to North Greenwich. Happy to get on an empty Jubilee train- only to realise after a few mins that a Willesden Green  train wont take us to Wembley🤣 on the move again. Loads of Addicks already.

The tribe is on the move!

If you're planning on getting the Lizzie line to Farringdon and changing there for the Met line here's a tip for you.

Get on the very back of the train and when you get to Farringdon follow the exit signs to Barbican. Once you go up the first escalator go off to the left and there is a "secret" lift there that takes you straight up to the Westbound Met line platform at Barbican. You don't even have to leave the station. And it means you can get on the Met line train at Barbican one stop earlier than all the melons who got off the same train as you and headed to the Farringdon exit.

If you don't believe me just Google it, or watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6q3S4hR380

    You're welcome!
    Brilliant tip.

Plenty of fans at Victoria, shouts of Red Army
my god how the train journey to London has changed, middle class families getting on at Peckham! , still looks tired and dirty
The trains are so bloody slow!
used to be able to get to East Croydon to Victoria in 14 minutes in the early 70s  on the fast service from Brighton…. So much for quicker journeys! Paid by contact …. First time , oh well just proves an old man like me  should not be wandering about these days!

On the one an hour later (9.35 Guildford) and a few Charlton, plus a couple Orient. Though I know the 'Ming well as it's where my other half is from and we drink at The Star regularly!

Paddington at 10, grabbed breakfast and onto the Bakerloo. Changing at Queens Park as you do. The announcer is enjoying himself. "This isn't your train! No!!!!"

We walked up to the platform and there wasn’t anybody on it, we actually thought we got it wrong.

I was on a fairly late Elizabeth line train and was dead keen to try this out. Then i read above that Farringdon was closed due to overcrowding. Was at the back of the Liz line train. Every other charlton fan got off and headed on the long walk to the usual Farringdon exit, so I was the only one heading for the Barbican exit. Didnt feel it was appropriate to try to play the pied piper and take others with me so fully indulged myself. A met line train was waiting for me, doors open, as I reached the platform.

Here are a few pics from the experience:

Tried it again on the return journey but that was stupid on reflection. This only works going westbound. When the  met/circle/h&c train pulls in at Barbican going eastwards there's no lift back to the Liz line. You have to go via the ticket office and down to the far end of west bound platform for the 'secret' lift. Why it's not signed and advertised I do not know, except it is just a  low capacity lift and so probably just best left one of those quirky things.
