Getting to Wembley, travel tips

I was on a fairly late Elizabeth line train and was dead keen to try this out. Then i read above that Farringdon was closed due to overcrowding. Was at the back of the Liz line train. Every other charlton fan got off and headed on the long walk to the usual Farringdon exit, so I was the only one heading for the Barbican exit. Didnt feel it was appropriate to try to play the pied piper and take others with me so fully indulged myself. A met line train was waiting for me, doors open, as I reached the platform.

Tried it again on the return journey but that was stupid on reflection. This only works going westbound. When the  met/circle/h&c train pulls in at Barbican going eastwards there's no lift back to the Liz line. You have to go via the ticket office and down to the far end of west bound platform for the 'secret' lift. Why it's not signed and advertised I do not know, except it is just a  low capacity lift and so probably just best left one of those quirky things.

Six-a-bag-of-nuts

Coach from Bournemouth to Hammersmith, tube to Baker Street, walk to Marylebone and train to Wembley Stadium. Went like a dream (apart from one minor own goal due to my stupidity)
Was latish leaving Wembley expecting station to be queued back and rammed but we shuffled on pretty quickly.
Great post match meal at the Flat Iron Hammersmith, celebrating a great win and my son's 32nd birthday, then a few more drinks in the Swan while we watched the Premier League games play out on several TVs

Lol. too true. I am still buzzing about this as much as anything the game itself offered.

I am missing a picture really as what i couldn't show, and youtube guy misses too, is how that lift is tucked away to the left at the foot of the very obvious escalator signed as 'Way out'. If it wasn't for @Off_it 's directions i wouldn't have noticed it at all, and just carried on up the adjacent escalator to the Farringodn (Barbican) liz line exit.

Was quite amusing... Got the 9:29 from Abbey Wood on the Elizabeth Line, thought I'd try it out as well when I got to Farringdon, and fully expected the "route" to be packed with Charlton fans, especially when we all got to the Station.

In the end it was only myself, @Tavern (Was great to meet you, before and after the game) and his Daughter that did it. So the three of us had an extremely easy time getting on at Barbican (Was equally surprised by the lack of Orient fans who were already on the train, as expected it to be a lot busier having travelled from Liverpool Street already... Of course the train then rolled into a very busy Farringdon Station.

Train from Billericay to Liv St. decided to got to Farringdon Spoons for brekkie. Bad move, rammed out at 10:00 no chance of getting a table. Had a kfc and went to Wembley. Platform packed at Farringdon. Tube full of Orient. Kind of wished just went straight to Wembley rather than getting off at Farringdon

I was stood on the platform at Baker Street going to the game and the Metropolitan Line train pulled in, packed to the gunnels.
The doors slid open and there was simply a wall of people trying not to spill out of the train.
I had a look of disappointment as I moved forward a bit towards the impossible crush, and an arm snaked out from the carriage and went around my waist and pulled and yanked me onto the train.
Not only that it was a Leyton Orient fan who did it despite me wearing my colours.
Got to Wembley Park in time for my meet up.

I say this because the walk back up Wembley way to Wembley park was, putting it mildly painful!

Thinking I might try another route next May.

I think it was because of issues on the Jubilee / Metropolitan Line, its never previously taken an hour for me to get down Wembley Way back to Wembley Park, and saw on the boards that there were severe delays on one line, and minor delays on the other when I got to the Station.

We stayed until the players started to leave the pitch then went straight to Wembley Stadium station, 10 minute wait, on the first train that came in, non-stop to Marylebone.

I always like to travel to Wembley via Wembley Park, just for the view when you get there and the walk up Wembley Way. But coming back via Wembley Stadium always wins hands down.

Wasn’t too bad for us.

Bit of a queue but straight on a train (standing room only) and into Marylebone in no time.

Pleasantly surprised by the journey both in and out.

We had a drink in the Ibis next to Wembley Stadium station, then pretty much straight onto a train to Marleybone.

We left Sunbury at 9.00, in Green Man at 9.45, £24 for 4 of us. Wish we did the same on way home, Wembley Park to London Bridge was a nightmare, Market Porter hardly any Charlton, no atmosphere. Heard the Green Man was great post match.

Dead easy. Had to queue outside the station for a few minutes until one train left, then the entire queue got down onto the platform in time for a 6-carriage train to pull in. Even got a seat.

On the train back to Leeds now throughly exhausted after a bit of a tourist day with the family today. Looking forward to getting to more games next year and ticking off a few more of the 92.

You had to walk around for a while to be able to get a place to order one, kept defaulting to the pick up area around the back of the stadium, which would've taken me at least half hour to walk there. £35 on the way back and still only 40mins. Got it for £29 on the way there.

Since we had hospitality we were kicked out well after an hour after KO but we could see the kettling to Wembley Park was still bad. We breezed down to Wembley Stadium. Still a 10
min wait there but got a seat,
nice seats on a nice air-conned train. Deffo way to go back, as the legendary train anorak @Off_it advised.
Charing X was alright once I had accepted that Charing X regards Eltham as non-existent.

Can’t remember who, but someone posted it a while back when I was asking for tips for an England game and worked a treat.

Ahh yes. Southeastern who think no one visits the West End at the weekend or evenings but instead wish to frequent Canon Street!

I mean years of customer behaviour must have  changed and they are the only experts who can see it 😉😆

It was I that advised you and everyone to use Wembley Stadium Station rather than get caught for an hour at Wembley Park.
It would appear few listened.
I knew it wouldn't make a difference, because I advised everyone in 2019 and few took the advice then as well.

Thanks for the Charing Cross, Bakerloo Line to Marylebone and overground to Wembley tip, got seated on every leg there and back and no crush on any of the trains (except Tunbridge Wells to CX, where they just about got everyone waiting at Orpington onto the train!). Will do that again next time we’re at Wembley!
