I watched the WBA game last night and they were battered by Birmingham. 95th minute Birmingham winner (rightly) ruled out for offside.1

If we win our game against Stoke and our game in hand against Pompey, we're above them all.
We're also 12th in the form table, above teams including Stoke, Leicester, Watford, Coventry and Preston.
The sending offs have really skewed that stat.2 -
The sending offs we partly won with our good gameplay, you can't remove them from the performance because they are part of itSantaClaus said:sam3110 said:people keep talking about how good all these teams around us are and how they'll be well clear etc and I just don't see it. Having 3 opponents sent off during a 4 game period is huge anomaly. Pointing out that it'll skew a narrow 5 game metric like form seems an odd thing to argue about.0

Had some serious problems with their ap last night....ie Chelsea Leeds played 30 min over the 90.....saw the Soton score...went from 3-1 to 3-4 in a second.siblers said:BBC sports still has them 3 1 up. They'll be some poor Leicester fans in for a shock1 -
We actually had 4 opponents sent off. It is of course an anomaly and you can't expect it to happen every 5 games but when a large part of our game is about playing a physical game on the edge and trying to get the opposition to need to commit strongly you are hoping for more yellows/reds. We wouldn't have expected this run, but it is factored inSantaClaus said:Having 3 opponents sent off during a 4 game period is huge anomaly. It does skew it but ultimately it doesn't actually matter - the points still count and if we have luck helping us arrest the really poor form prior to that, great.SantaClaus said:Having 3 opponents sent off during a 4 game period is huge anomaly. We need to take the chance when it's given which mostly we have done.1 -
I asked Claude AI to calculate the number of points likely to be needed for survival based on the past 15 seasons. I did this after Saturday's matches and the prediction was 48-49 points. I don't think it does anything more sophisticated than calculate the historic average and take into account Wednesday's demise, but it will be interesting to see how it changes if Leicester continue to collapse. The weakness of this kind of question and answer is, I don't think all of WBA, Pompey, Blackburn and Leicester can realistically get to 48 points, whereas for us it would need less than a point per game. On that basis I'm preparing to be happy if we get a point tonight, and then go all out to beat Pompey.1

The Leicester one was down to our good play (we were competitive 11 vs 11), but the Sheffield United red cards were out of nowhere. We would have comfortably lost that game without them.fenaddick said:

Of course though it does work the other way. Ramsay's red card probably cost us 2 points against Millwall.4 -

Pretty sure when we played them, the stat was 19 games without a clean sheet. That's pretty shit. They need NJ in as a defensive coach. Lolfenaddick said:
They were defensively fairly solid until the last 10 mins or so with little threat going forwardChris_from_Sidcup said:

And we did the reverse at home to Derby in the 90s if memory serves me correctly?AFKABartram said:

The first Sheff Utd red I agree was out of nowhere. The second one and the Derby one were because we kept winding up Tanganga and Clarke. Tanganga got too angry and lost his head, Clarke committed a stupid second bookable offence because he was frustrated by uskillerandflash said:

Pompey new signing Keshi Anderson has been sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury. Think their injury list is now up to 10 players2

I'd be happy with a point tonight but 3 would be even better if only because it puts more pressure on Pompey in that same game - the difference between keeping in touch with ourselves and a must win game for them (and the resultant blow to morale if/when they don't manage it.)PragueAddick said:I asked Claude AI to calculate the number of points likely to be needed for survival based on the past 15 seasons. 7 points ahead of Leicester and a game in hand on them still.
Anyone saying we're in a relegation fight and they aren't are fucking deluded3 -
If results keep going our way we could potentially be ten points clear of 21st place this time next week. Quite a lot of things will need to work in our favour but even so I have to say we look to be hitting a bit of form at just the right moment.4

You know what else has skewed it even more? Winning another game...SantaClaus said:sam3110 said:people keep talking about how good all these teams around us are and how they'll be well clear etc and I just don't see it. Sheffield United, Leicester, Norwich, West Brom...

With Stoke having 10 senior players out, and QPR with something similar it goes to show that our injury issues are not isolated.fenaddick said:Pompey new signing Keshi Anderson has been sidelined for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring injury. Think their injury list is now up to 10 players
I guess when you have people out, and have to push the fit players more, it can just become self deprecating for the team.4 -

All teams get injuries, especially midwinter. Managers always like to make out their injuries are unusual, but in reality most teams have similar issues4

Has anyone said Leicester aren't in a relegation fight? A team only out of the bottom 3 on goal difference is definitely in a fight.sam3110 said:7 points ahead of Leicester and a game in hand on them still.

I think they definitely have the attacking quality to get out of it, but if they continue to leak goals like they are then they're obviously going to struggle.5 -
Form table bottom 3
5 games - Stoke, Leicester, Wednesday
10 games - Blackburn, West Brom, Wednesday
15 games - Oxford, West Brom, Wednesday
20 games - West Brom, Oxford, Wednesday
3 -
Does suggest that West Brom could be in big trouble, Wednesday are absolutely screwed (obviously), Oxford look doomed but there's a few others who could still join them and given our own form even at its worst seems to have been the "least bad" we can focus on looking up the table more than down, albeit avoiding complacency.stoneroses19 said:Form table bottom 3

We need to keep our feet on the ground and don’t think we are safe for a minute until we mathematically are.
Even the Blackburn forum now saying forget about Charlton …. 7 points clear…. Out of sight.
Dont actually like that ….. need to keep pushing and if we do we will be fine11 -
While I see your point and agree we aren’t safe yet I’m much more focussed on just enjoying where we are and the fact we won last night. What’s the point in being a fan if you can’t take 24 hours to enjoy the good bits?DamoNorthStand said:We need to keep our feet on the ground and don’t think we are safe for a minute until we mathematically are.

Reckon it's 3 more wins and a couple of draws to be definitely safe, that'll be 50 and surely can't go down with that total.DamoNorthStand said:We need to keep our feet on the ground and don’t think we are safe for a minute until we mathematically are.

Pompey, Oxford, Sheff Wed, Norwich, West Brom, Swansea still left to play. Surely we can do most of our work in there.1 -
Win the home games this month and we're pretty much there I reckon, and then you can pick up enough points to be safe by April2
-
Also I think Oxford will struggle to get to 40, and Blackburn to 45/47, so I don't think it's a 50 point season3
