Sonny Carey is a complete cheat code in the game. Think work rate and determination must be overvalued by the match engine as he's massively overperforming0 -
what tactics is everybody using for Charlton? Both in and out of possession?
Only played one friendly, played 4-2-3-1 and got battered 3-0. Hard to tell from one game but maybe I'm doing something wrong, be interested to see what others are doing.0 -
Sounds like real life!fenaddick said:

I also heard skins won’t work on this FM?
I really struggle to play the game without a decent skin and stadium backgrounds.Don’t think I’m gonna bother with it this year.1 -
I’m playing a variation of the 532 OOP and 4231 IP. I also got battered in friendlies but I’m top of the Champ after 16 games. My IP midfield isn’t two holders though, I have CC playing as a 6, a new signing as a box to box left sided 8 and then Carey drifting in the 10DoctorCharlton said:what tactics is everybody using for Charlton? No they don’t. Miles mentioned some bigger updates being planned to add features, international management being one of them.ValleyGary said:I also heard skins won’t work on this FM?

I guess that could include skinning but will have to wait and see. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s something for FM27.0 -
Played a little bit the other day and dont have no issue with the UI. Will take some getting used too for sure but quite like it tbh.

I honestly hate managing charlton on FM I grow a serious dislike to the players when they start coming out to the press that I haven't kept my promise. Rather manage them 3 seasons in.
Started 1 with Crawley Town and currently sit 20th in league 2 with Dixon yet to score.0 -
Literally just copied Nathan Jones with a 532 out of possession and 4231 in possession with 2DM’s opposed to 2CM’s. High tempo direct football won 3 from opening 4 league leagues despite averaging less than 40% possession a gameDoctorCharlton said:what tactics is everybody using for Charlton? Charge people £40 for a game that isn’t finished.Scoham said:

Unfortunately that’s what the gaming industry is like these days. In particular paradox interactive do this a lot. Release a game and then changing a tenner for each update as “dlc”.The Red Robin said:

What really irks me is the not accurate stadium looks and the lazy player rendering. Giving Leaburn, L Jones and about 6 others in the game Mohican haircuts is bad design. Yes, I’m shallow!2

I never realised not being able to skin would make the game feel so naked aesthetically. Have had it for a week but not really had the interest to go past the first few emails.
Without the custom backgrounds it just reminds me of doing work!0 -
Signed Bamford on a free for some decent cover. Shocking in real life but might do a job for me at The Valley.0

Interesting that some have already found ways to customise the game.
This file is supposed to remove the lag in the UI:

Someone’s worked out how to change attribute colours, which I always like to do:

I found a massive bug earlier, Greg Docherty was wearing gloves6

Started a Charlton season last night, I only got about an hour and a half on it which was basically just enough time to set up the tactics for in an out of possession. (a few bugs on there when switching between both tactics with players on top of one another)
There does seem to be an awful lot going on but It's just going to take a bit of getting used to.
I think the player ratings are probably about right for the majority. Maybe a few underrated but that's no surprise given our start to the season vs where most expected us to be. I'm glad Ramsay and Jones are both considered top Championship defenders.
Some rated by their old clubs researcher. (off the top of my head Bell and Burke) are a little on the low side imo rated as lower end Championship / top league 1 defenders. But again understandable considering both were injured a lot for them and they were relegated.
Part of me wants to wait until the first update to player stats before actually doing a Charlton season. @Scoham do you know when that's likely to be?

Bell and Burke were of course part of a relegated Luton team, so they were possibly downgraded too much. I did give Bell a few small increases as attributes such as composure were a bit low.covered_end_junior said:Started a Charlton season last night, I only got about an hour and a half on it which was basically just enough time to set up the tactics for in an out of possession. If a player is obviously underrated they can get a boost, Carey and Mbick were examples of that, but I don't know if/when minor updates will be out.
The major update is likely to be in March as in previous years. I think that makes sense, a full review is a lot of work for SI and the researchers, and there's a risk of overreacting (both ways) based on only a quarter/third of the season.
If we're top half or even top 6 for most of the season then it'll make sense to give various players a boost. I wouldn't take the descriptions literally, they should be good enough to perform in the Championship, and those on the younger side should improve in game too.2 -
Lma manager 2003 takes some beating though 2005 wasn't bad.
I do have FM21 which I have enjoyed. Getting a small club like Rende go up a couple of divisions and then moving on to making Bologna a European powerhouse was quite an accomplishment. Though the board never invested in the team which made it a struggle after a few seasons. Just couldn't keep competing with the established teams.
I know it's early days with this one so I'm guessing no one has done that with a smaller/mid size team yet but wondered if they have made a change in recent years that when you do start to do well with a team of that size you can create a dynasty and investment comes to help that?0 -

I’ve downloaded and changed to a quicker UI, a lot better. https://youtu.be/rdRNoYXjC1Q?si=jrVeffz4NzqQh4GVI think bookmarks are going to be your friend this year.0

Haha, no idea what his heading rating is off the top of my head, not one I set.fenaddick said:
Loaned out Kelman and he gets this comment on every single match report, something tells me @Scoham doesn't rate Charlie's heading
I know his jumping reach is only about 8, which feels about - his strengths definitely aren’t in the air!1 -
Funny thing is I was actually thinking he is potentially a very Nathan Jones sort of player. Incredibly hard working and does the thankless tasks according to the manager's plan, just not very prolific apart from one season at Middlesbrough and a spell at Leeds. Given that our whole setup is to have a striker who makes life absolutely miserable for defenders in the press but isn't necessarily required to score to have a good game he'd fit in perfectly. If we were still short up front and he was willing to take a very big paycut I reckon he'd be a perfect fit. We aren't though, and he won't, but if you're good enough to be the tip of the Bielsa press you're definitely good enough to do it for Jones.king addick said:Signed Bamford on a free for some decent cover. Won the first game of the season 3-1 against Watford. (Apter, Carey & Knibbs with the goals)
Have set us up as we are in real life, Bree starts the season injured so I'm playing Apter on the right currently. MOTM was Watford.
Only signing so far is Ayden Heaven on loan from Man Utd to play the LCB role.
Sold the Gomez clause so I have 5 million to spend but so far struggling to find anyone to sign that fits into our playing style and is interested in signing. Don't want to spend the money for the sake of it so might sit tight until January and just bring in a couple of loans to fill the squad out in certain areas.
