A great player, who always seemed a gentleman unlike some others of his era. He and Nastase were my favourite players. Nastase was a bit of a naughty boy, but I loved watching his antics.

    He was certainly no gentleman!

  • It sounds like a good time for the club to invite him.
And they can get him to fill out a survey about his matchday experience.

Borg in the Curbs stand and McEnroe in the Jimmy Seed.

Saw parts of his interview yesterday and the reporter asked him about a ball boy who’d annoyed him at the 1971 US Open. Borg said he was useless.

Turns out it was John McEnroe! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Funny guy, and a bit of a genius. He was like the Paulo Di Canio of the tennis courts.

I was one of the younger ball boys, in my 20's, but some of other guy's were early 40's.
During one particular match, Nastase turned to the crowd whilst pointing at poor old Paul, standing in the corner, and said "look at that ball boy, he's old enough to be my Grand dad" to which the crowd roared with laughter.

Of course, for the rest of the week,  Paul was the butt of endless ribbing from his fellow ball boy "mates".

Lost decade of drugs, pills and alcohol....league one does that to you!

Lost decade of drugs, pills and alcohol ?
Bjorn sounds like a Charlton fan.

I think it would be a lost opportunity if he isn't.
I think he's quite a humble, introverted guy, so it would probably take an invitation from the hierarchy to get him to the Valley.
  • Thought he had visited The Valley before.

And apparently the club sent him a bunch of shirts at some point!

    This invite needs to happen

  • Indeed he is a fan . I asked him in a bar here in Stockholm he was somewhat taken back when a random guy flashed him a Charlton tattoo. Yes his grandad was a fan so runs in the family .

In terms of all time greats of the sport, he is up there.

    A meeting not to forget.

Knowing the Swedes as I do I bet he was very modest and pleasant.

This is a win win to invite Borg to the Valley & onto the pitch, treat him like the tennis god he is & give him VIP Addicks Welcome. This a soft marketing opportunity for the club & comms to associate one of the true sporting superstars to Charlton, but also hopefully for the man himself, to give him a memorable day, Charlton musuem, meet the team, enjoy a match & the Valley atompshere. I'm sure he would appreciate the invite and a day in south east London!
Hope someone at the club makes it happen.....COYA's

This is an interesting thread and I’d love to see BB appear at the Valley, but…

…can someone please remove the rogue apostrophe from the thread title? Every time I see it, it gnaws away at me!
