MATCH PREVIEW: Charlton Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers - Saturday 27th September 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off

Charlton Athletic vs Blackburn Rovers
Saturday 27th September 2025 - 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Anthony Backhouse

Introduction
There seems to be something about this Charlton side under Nathan Jones, give it many more games and I'm sure fans will start wondering if there is any point in showing up before the 90th minute, especially when the score line is sitting at 0-0 - Its not even this season is it, its a carry over from our 2024/25 season in League One, the Charlton team that has been built, is one that doesnt give up, and should never be written off until the Referee blows for Full-Time.

The Opposition
Name: Blackburn Rovers (18th) - Manager: Valérien Ismaël
Ground: Ewood Park
Previously League Result: Watford 0-1 Blackburn Rovers

Next up for the Addicks in South East London, will be a Blackburn side looking to try and complete a Football match. After all their last match ended up as a bit of a washout, and despite beating Ipswich Town 1-0, up until the 75th minute, have found out today that they'll need to repeat said match from the start.

Blackburn though have quite a decent record, in terms of performances against South East London opposition, well at least against our overly friendly neighbours that is, in two of the last three seasons they've beaten Millwall both 4-1, and 4-3 to deny the side from Bermondsey a spot in the Play-Offs. They've also won three of their last five visits to the Valley, although we did have crackpot owners during that timeframe, so lets pretend those matches don't count.

In terms of the 2025/26 Championship season, and Blackburn, well they've had a pretty disappointing start to this campaign... They come into this season having missed out on the Play-Offs by just two points themselves, and will surely be going into this campaign looking to go that one step further. Instead like Sheffield United, they've struggled to emulate that campaign thus far, and sit in 18th and just two wins. Both of those happened at Hull City (3-0) and Watford (0-1), meaning that like the last visitors to the Valley, they're slightly better on the road, than what they are in familiar territory this season!!

Charlton Team News
Naturally its easier to talk about what we do know with those available for selection this coming Saturday, and to begin with, we know that Kayne Ramsay will be once again available after suspension. With a visit to Derby County on the cards this coming Tuesday, we might see Nathan Jones opting for rotation, with Reece Burke dropping to the bench, ahead of the trip to Pride Park in midweek.

Elsewhere and James Bree had a strong start to his Charlton career, with an assist in his first start at Sheffield United... Again though, Jones might prefer to opt for a more attacking eleven when we're at the Valley, with a more defensive approach on the road, so the experienced Wing-Back might be rested this Saturday, with Rob Apter coming back into the eleven.

Luke Berry has also returned to full training, so may well be on the bench ahead of Ibrahim Fullah.

Kaminski
Ramsay - Jones - Bell
Apter - Coventry - Docherty - Edwards
Carey
Kelman - Campbell

Substitutes Bench: Maynard-Brewer - Burke - Bree - Gillesphey - Anderson - Fullah - Knibbs - Leaburn - Olaofe

Comments

  • Looking forward to Saturday and being back for a 3pm kickoff. Going for a10. Campbell winner.
    • Charlton have won just one of their last six home league games against Blackburn (D2 L3), with this their first since a 2-0 defeat in February 2020.
    • Blackburn have won six of their last nine league games against Charlton (D1 L2), though those two defeats in that run have come in the last three meetings.
    • Charlton have lost just one of their last 18 home league games (W13 D4), going down 1-0 against Leicester last month.
    • Having won just one of a run of 10 away league games between December and March last season (D1 L8), Blackburn have now won four of their last six on the road (D1 L1).
    • Only Sheffield United (1) have scored fewer goals than Charlton (4) in the Championship this season. However, only Stoke and Middlesbrough (4) have conceded fewer than the Addicks (5).

  • First game of the season for me, bringing dad and daughter, looking forward to it. Reckon it'll be tight, one nil, Kelman with a deflection of his backside
  • Bringing my two beautiful young granddaughters to their first Charlton game. Soooo excited.
  • Comfortable 4-0...
  • Heart fancies a 2-1 win, Head is going for 1-1.
Blackburn blow hot and cold for me.
  • Black burn was Curbs last home game as Manager, his departure announced that morning.  Despite his impending departure, he remained committed to the end.  I remembering him shouting at Darren Ambrose as a throw in was being taken "Fxxxxxx Move!" Not sure DA put anything into Curbs leaving present.

I wonder if Jones will leave Ramsay out? He was quite vocal post match about Kayne’s ‘stupidity’ for getting the second yellow against Millwall, and that he’d have to learn.
Could that coupled with Bree’s performance v Sheffield U see arguably our best player start on the bench v Blackburn?

  • Not overly comfortable home win,  1-0.

  • I would keep Bree in his spot with Apter on the bench, also Tanto to start in place of Kelman
Home win after a tough game
  • 1 nil El Karkouri to get a late winner
  • It won't be an easy game by any means - Blackburn were on course for 3 wins from 4 until their game last weekend was abandoned.

Good preview FA 👍. I think I’d have Knibbs on the bench instead of Fullah or Berry though.

Goes to show our strength in depth that Costello, Berry and Godden are not in your 20, plus the decent young players we have out on loan, the Mitchells, Kanu, Asimwe
