POST-MATCH THREAD: Derby County v Charlton Athletic: Tuesday 30th September 2025: KO 20.00

This fixture started with end-to-end action but by the fifteen minute mark things had become quite scrappy. Pride Park was quiet and somewhat on edge, not helped by the two or three times that Tyreece Campbell isolated his man on the left wing and went at him.

A lapse in concentration from the Derby keeper, his second in a handful of minutes, almost gifted an onrushing Charlie Kelman his first goal for the Addicks, but a bit of luck allowed the keeper to clear.

The Addicks’s pressure was rewarded, striking first on 37 minutes through a well worked bit of play around the Derby box. Campbell received the ball in space on the edge of the box, drawing two defenders. He played the ball inside to Sonny Carey, who laid a short pass to Greg Docherty, who then guided it on the half volley to James Bree, in space on the right. Bree caught ball on the bounce and, from the stream replay, seemed to shin it with impeccable technique into the back of the net, giving the keeper no chance.

In the second half a period of sustained pressure from Derby led to Nathan Jones making a triple change. On 56 minutes, Miles Leaburn, Harvey Knibbs, and Reece Burke came on for Kelman, Carey, and Bree. Despite their aggression, Derby couldn’t find a way through, with no shot on target until quite late in the affair. Charlton matched the aggression and looked to counter at every opportunity.

Tanto Olaofe then replaced Campbell to provide a couple more fresh legs and provide an outlet in the Derby half.

On 76 minutes Derby broke forward, turning our back line.  Kaminsky pulled off a super save down to his right from Bobby Clark. The best he’s pulled off in Charlton colours. The equaliser, however, came some two minutes later when Kayne Ramsay lost his man on the second phase of a set play. Matt Clarke rose above to head it past Kaminsky to reward the home side for their second half efforts. Only moments later, Charlton had a corner of their own that resulted in a half chance from Harvey Knibbs, who could only blast it over the bar.

With six minutes of added time, Derby had the bit between their teeth, pressing for a potential winner. But the Addicks stood resolute. Both sides had their chances at the end, including a Greg Docherty shot in the box that was deflected away.

Some disappointment in how the second half played out, but it is a useful and well-earned away point; just a shame that the Addicks couldn’t smother Derby when they had the chance. Charlton were comfortable for large parts of the game but Derby were never going to give up at one goal down and Charlton didn’t have enough to keep them at bay.

Well done to the travelling Addicks who made all the noise as far as I could tell on the stream. You came through loud and clear.

Derby 1 Charlton 1

Over to you.

Good point to get. Nothing to fear in this division so far. Very encouraging.

Game Changers changed the game negatively.

Hectic ending. I like how we still tried to win it to the end.

Frustrating not to win after that first half, but a point on the road is a good point and a point nearer to our goal for the season.

Don’t be too disheartened by that. In truth it is a very decent away point even though we were good value for our half time lead (fabulous team goal too) and at that stage a win looked more than possible. But Derby gained control in the second half and our defence was under a lot of pressure before it eventually cracked.

Kaminski still doesn’t inspire confidence with his aerial ability but he did show what a good shot stopper he is.

Good chances for Knibbs and Doc near the end but they had a few too. Fair result. On to Preston on Saturday, which I think will be a sterner test.

Derby were there for the taking but think fatigue got us in the end. Jones never normally would have made those subs so early and we got much worse after they came on. Still a good point.

    Kaminski best game I’d say.

Wouldn’t have minded seeing Apter come on for Bree, but a point away from home is probably a fair enough result in the end

I think ramsay’s confidence is shattered after that red card which is a shame hope he regains it
  • 6 of the 8 games in the Championship drawn tonight, it's going to be a brilliant league for the neutral, as the teams are so well matched.

    Indeed no home wins tonight.
  • Take a point away at Derby all day long.
  • We are under a lot of pressure due to a lack of possession- tiring way to play.

Kaminski looked dodgy at crosses but some good saves.

Would like to see Tanto start.

Undefeated in September and 8 points from 12, we were spoilt in the first half with that worldie goal.

I think the subs came too soon in the second half, Carey, Bree and Kelman were possibly the best 3 players for us on the pitch (Doc too) and it took a lot of our momentum away.

What was Ramsay doing on that break away at the end should have done better
Looked shattered TBF, should have at least shot.

He'd cleaned up several attacks in the minutes leading up to it, then a couple of errors and people want him benched (not you btw).

Before you get too annoyed, just ask yourself if Derby's goal is going to go viral

Could have been a win, but could also have been a defeat, so 1-1 it finished, some great defensive work as usual, but fair result end of the day, we go again Saturday, and a chance to really topple that Small team in Preston

Think the subs were made with half an eye on Preston at the weekend. What we've learned (although probably already knew) tonight is that in this league a one goal lead at half time is unlikely to last until the end. We need to push for a second rather than protect, Apter for Bree might have been better and we really missed Carey when he went off
  • Draw was a fair result really, they put us under serious pressure in the second half.

Had a couple of chances to nick the win but can't complain with a draw on the road in our first season back up.

We were good first half, but seemed to stop playing in the second. There were a lot of tired legs out there, and Derby had no problems creating space in dangerous areas. That being said, we still had a few opportunities to grab a second. And if we're keeping our feet on the ground, a draw is a good result away from home in this league.
  • Happy with a point, but can't help but feel that we could have dealt with that corner. Agyemang and Clarke were the only two jumping for the ball, and for two big men like that to be allowed the time and space to do that, is disappointing.
Also, maybe the triple subs came a bit too early.

Anyway, I said before the game that I'd be pleased with a point and we got that, so no more moaning. Onwards and upwards. COYA.

Good point important not to lose to teams that we want to be below us .. first half we were excellent great touch from Kelman who was very good tonight .. great finish … but we seemed to lose ourselves once we made the first set of changes we never really got a hold in the game again did not help with Derby having about 5 strikers on the pitch but two excellent saves by Kaminski gave us the point we deserved …. Could have snatched it but a very good point

  • Subs too soon, subs too late - Nathan can’t win!

Good point, Derby threw everything at us second half and probably deserved the draw. Disappointed that we didn't get the ball down and hold it second half but two tough games on the spin, producing four points is not to be sniffed at.

Would've taken a point at the start.
Thought we were well on top until we made the substitutions.
I know it was a busy last 3rd of the game but the fresh Knibbs looked absolutely dead on his feet with 10 to go!

That's a good point against an underperforming team desperate for a win. Derby have some attackers with recent Premier League experience, all of our players are learning the Championship game by game.
