I’m losing count of the times I come on here to read the post match thread and see comments like “thought we were outplayed for first thirty minutes” or “ they could have been out of sight by half time”, “we weren’t at our best” or “we need a midfield playmaker “. All of which is and has been true on occasions. What is also true is we are fifth in The Championship and more than holding our own. I’ll give you three reasons. We are I’d say fitter than 90% of the teams. We are truly a team not just a bunch of talented players. We have Nathan Jones driving us on and on. It makes us more than the sum of our parts and sometimes it gives us that extra to get us over the line. There will be exceptions and losses like QPR and Preston because we’re not the finished article but we’ll also do what we’ve done to WBA and Ipswich and Blackburn. Fans of opposing teams will say we’re a poor team and Nathan Jones will make more haters but we’ll be alright and although I don’t see us top six come the final reckoning I don’t see us bottom six either and this season we’d have all taken that.13

We're crying out for Godden to link up play between the midfield and the likes of Leaburn and Kelman. In fact we could also really do with a ball-winning playmaker who can pick a pass. Amazed to see Docherty start every game this season as I just don't think he is a championship player (along with a few others). Not an easy watch.
HOWEVER - this lot just never give up. The work rate and 'giving a shit' is there for all to see, kudos to Jones for that as well. The subs were great, suddenly looked less one-dimensional and the feeling that anything could now happen. Thought Hernandez was bloody impressive too and offers something different.
Good vocal support for us, and also the Baggies fans that came down.
The fact we dug in and won that with key players injured is bloody inspiring.
Feels surreal being 5th - tho as long as we don't go down I'll see this season as a roaring success.3 -
Nathan Jones is definitely the type to leave no stone unturned. I think it is absolutely mental to think he wouldn’t have a designated penalty taker decided pre-gameletthegoodtimesroll said:

its more damning that we didn’t have a striker on the pitch that was front and centre trying to grab the ball the moment the Ref gave the penalty.
We don’t want to be one of those teams where players are fighting over the penalty, our dressing room is better than that.
that only cemented my initial thought that he looked like he only picked the ball up because he was the Captain and nobody else wanted it

100% no other player wanted that penalty and fair play to Docherty as Captain he took it, such a shame after scoring his first goal Saturday Kelman was injured as he would have taken it, it was a shit penalty his body shape showed where it was going, but that is a game we would have lost in the first half of last season, after years of shit just enjoy the situation we find ourselves in.11

I think when people except we aren’t going to be the most beautiful side to watch and realise that making sure we are in the game for as long as possible first and foremost is NJ’s priority, the less surprised they will be that we have Knicked the game, I mean it’s not a new thing we did it last season and now we are doing it again. This season is looking so tight I suspect a number starting with ‘3’ could well turn out to be sufficient this time around, though I wouldn’t want to test that if we did end up being one of the teams fighting relegation.Bedsaddick said:

It was a good save but one of the best? I would expect a Charlton keeper to have kept that out. Apart from last year. And the year before. The year before that you might have stayed up on goal difference. We went down on 48 points in 19/20, it would have taken you down in 16/17 and potentially 13/14 as well. 44 points is no guarantee of safety at allBedsaddick said:

I think 50-pts is the real safety net that I'd be aiming for at the moment... We're pretty much half way there as well, Luton went down with 13-wins / 10-draws, we've got 6-wins / 5-draws.7 -

Carey’s interview confirms it was Docherty that was down to take them.I would guess that every attacking player we have would want to take them7 -
LJ has been given carte blanche by NJ just to clear the ball anywhere. Most managers at a higher level would expect a pass or header directed to another teammate. I don't think there would be a big queue for him, perhaps Wolves or a big spending Championship side.crookester said:

Obviously I am happy with the start we have made but I would make a very slight change to the formation due to injuries and to fit the players we have.We haven’t replaced Small with his strong runs, bree is doing very well but he isn’t a ball carrier like small. Edwards injury has lost our cover and support for Campbell.
i would go 3-4-2-1. I think we may have tried this last night with the substitutions.
this would comprise of Carey plus one from knibbs, Campbell, apter with fullah an option from the bench behind the main striker.Tanto could also possibly play this role
careys engine will allow him to drop back to make a 5 if needed. The other players all add a bit of flair and creativity.
the 2 between the midfield and attack all offer something different but would need to cover a lot of ground.0
