Had to sit behind @LouisMend last night as I won a couple of freebies on Valley Gold.

He blanked me but went mental when we scored, so unprofessional 😄

It was clear in the press row who was an Addick and who a Baggie at 95 mins

Not going to read every post but only just realised it was Grant that headed the ball to Carey. Does he get the assist for that ?

Even though I'm not a big fan of the International breaks, I think they have been good for giving the squad some rest and recovery time just when needed.
Jones' style of play requires the players to give their all every game.
Hopefully Matty Godden will return soon after the next one.
    Any news on Bell's injury?

Just 21 points away from safety 😉
    More like 31, no?
No . 44 points has been enough for the last 12 years

Godden will feature v Southampton , Kelman was standing in the tunnel last night so might not be a bad pull I think Bell is 4/6 weeks

  • Let’s be honest. The football wasnt great but what we do have is hard work, commitment & Sonny Carey !  Not to mention the rock that is Lloyd Jones. With those ingredients we’ve always got a chance. Campbell for me isnt strong enough for this league & should just be a late substitution against tiring defenders. So nice though to be the team that now gets late winners rather than the team conceding them !  I do believe though that our quality will improve as we adjust to life in the championship. And Greg, as brave & honest as you are , please don’t offer to be the penalty taker again mate !

It looked like nobody wanted to take it and as Captain he had to step up to do it.

its more damning that we didn’t have a striker on the pitch that was front and centre trying to grab the ball the moment the Ref gave the penalty.

  • We’re certainly not pretty, but we are effective. This has probably been posted already but it best explains how NJ has set us up to make the most of what we have. We can’t afford prolific strikers or expensive creative midfielders so he’s created a team system that is greater than any individual.

Quietest I've had to celebrate a last minute winner but did my best mute Nathan Jones impression.

Terrible viewing and if West Brom could finish they could have been walking away with the 3 points... BUT... we are so well organised and know how to play that despite the losses in defence we can still grind out a result, 0-0 would have been fair, despite having a couple of really good chances the baggies weren't exactly streets ahead of us in terms of quality.

Being able to pick up points playing like that keeps us nicely in this division and a healthy mid-table finish.

Subs and slight change in formation handed us the last 10 or so, Fullah, plenty have been raving about him and boy does he look a talent manage him well over the season ( I know people are going to be calling for him to start every game now but lets chill a bit) and let him develop and we have a ready made Championship player in the building.

Leaburn and Campbell didnt have the same effect as Leaburn and Campbell from the bench, our striking partnerships still need some working out, Tanto looked up for it when he came on.

Knibbs, probably his best brief appearance since the Watford goal.

Sonny Carey, I dont know about my missus but I think I'll have to join the queue at this rate!

Penalty takers will 100% be decided before the game. Docherty must have been the nominated taker. Leaburn has scored a pen for us before, I’m sure he’d have wanted it but it would have been pre-decided

We don’t want to be one of those teams where players are fighting over the penalty, our dressing room is better than that.

Docherty was the chosen penalty taker. Clearly he must have been better at them in training,  as a baffling choice otherwise!

I can fully understand NJ’s euphoria last night, in fact even us fans because I’d imagine since Saturday with the injuries and then Kelman must have been a really shit and pressured couple of days. Just another reason to believe as adjustments were made and got us a favourable result.

With that ‘shuffle technique’ Doc did before he passed the ball to the goalkeeper I’d be surprised if the other ten players weren’t ahead of him in the pre-determined list to take a penalty 🤣

that only cemented my initial thought that he looked like he only picked the ball up because he was the Captain and nobody else wanted it

People on here raving about Jones, like he isn't the MOTM in 90% of our games.

NJ does seem utterly bonkers and is loathed by most opposition fans which is great. I didn't think he would turn things around after the debacle against Crawley last year but thankfully the owners persevered.

We were not at our best we looked disrupted by the onslaught of injuries but this side just doesn't surrender.

£15 million Grant up top shows the gulf in outlay between the two clubs yet we go toe to toe with any.

I've said before we dig deep fight for every ball, keep going to the very end and this side although at times not the prettiest leaves everything on field.

We have a team and a manager that give us pride.

What struck me last night was there aren’t many teams better than Charlton at pressing and winning the ball back. And there aren’t many teams with a better defence  than charlton’s. And if there is one hero who is consistently brilliant it’s gotta be Lloyd Jones who in almost every game is immense. There was a period in the first half I thought that there’s only so much defending you can do but this seems not to be the case with Charlton. The fight and perseverance of this team led by Nathan Jones lead to that one moment when the ball goes in The net in extra time. It is the stuff of character and while we are not technically the best we are one of the most determined of teams..

All this talk of us not playing well, I don’t know what some of you are talking about. There’s a way we do things; we keep it tight, we sort of create chances here and there if we can be bothered or if someone randomly punches the ball in their own box but the main thing we do is run the opposition team about the place knowing that we’re fitter than them and we can smash one past them at the death. What’s that, 5 injury time goals in 14 games? It’s not an accident. It’s what we do. West Brom never looked like they were going to score, we should have gone one up with the penalty and then as it entered injury time there was always going to be a decent likelihood we would score. This was a perfect Nathan Jones’ Charlton performance, don’t convince yourself it was anything else
They missed two one on ones and a pretty presentable far-post chance.

We missed a penalty and made a bit of luck for ourselves with a good shot late on.

As long as we don't have to chase a game, then we're ok.

After the 2nd half against Swansea and the 1st half yesterday it felt like maybe teams had sussed us a bit and I was thinking we could end up seeing/having to change things tactically, but we are so horrible to play against, we cancel out the pretty up to our box stuff with shear work rate and power, then we are making our own quick attacks. I think sides think they know what to do against us but when it comes to the game it’s a different game. Were the baggies fans saying similar to other sides that we were poor? And yet we’ve turned another team over.
  • Defensively we were for the most part very good, going forward needs a bit of tidying up. Most important thing is three points. We’ve not played well the last couple of games but haven’t lost which is very impressive.

    Im exhausted after that

I'm adamant sides are afraid of us the longer games go without us conceding.

West Brom have some really good players but what I live about football is the ways it can be equalised, narrow defending and desire to win the ball. Set pieces, physicality and they matched us for that most of the game

Sonny Carey, I'm so happy he plays for us I was delighted we signed him as I definitely thought he was destined for bigger things and he is keeping a properly good player in Knibbs out.

    Anyway

Nothing profound to add. If you are in the fight in the 12th round you always have a punches chance. We are Johnny Nelso
Sister used to date Johnny when they were teenagers in Sheffield. At the time he worked in Wimpy, I think where they met. He came round our house and announced to my dad that one day he'd be a world champion. Dad took piss a bit, saying he was too tall and skinny........but Johnny kept training, and the rest as they say!!!
