God what a dreadful list of names, genuinely would like to know how on earth we ever thought signing them was a good idea.elbiglad said:I am not commenting from a position of great knowledge having never seen him play… But Lewis Orford does not strike me as an NJ signing at all, and not one that suits our predicament.
I feel like we’ve loaned a lot of young midfielders that struggled to make the jump into men’s football over the last few years - Dylan Levitt, Matt Smith, Gavin Kilkenny, Lewis Fiorini and Nile John all spring to mind. Gallagher the outlier.0 -
Reminds me of that lad we got on loan a few seasons ago from Luton Louie Watson1

Kenyan looks like a done deal... Interview in a local Kenyan paper saying he wants to challenge himself in the championship2 -
Yeah Orford doesn't strike me as a Championship signing at all. Would be surprised if it's him1

Well you won’t if you live 200 miles away.cantersaddick said:
Thank you! I've never seem anyone that remotely looks like a footballer in New Eltham Grill and I live 200m away.robroy said:
Collins all over twitter and a few sites posting he’s signing. Savage gained momentum on the other forum , some lad saying he clocked him in New Eltham Grill (yes seriously). Cawley said we are not in for Savage though.cantersaddick said:Had a mad week. Catching up on the thread now but where did the Collins and Savage rumours originate from?10 -
I thought he was quality. What do I know.AberystwythAddick said:Reminds me of that lad we got on loan a few seasons ago from Luton Louie Watson1 -
He may struggle to nurse a round of toast, a mug of tea and a CurlyWurly that long.LargeAddick said:
Can you stake it out between now and 5pm Monday?cantersaddick said:

Sometimes I think we take the position of we were shit and that's why we lost, not giving credit to the opposing sides quality is probably in the football supporters DNA and this is borne out by last nights result for Derby at Bristol City, if we gave Derby a 2-1 win by being shit then Bristol must have stayed in the dressing room.RC_CAFC said:
At no point have I seen a team this year not give their all, I’ve just seen one who’s not as good as the opponents or perhaps set up wrong. If we go down, it won’t be for lack of effort. Jones has brought people in who won’t allow that.aki2798 said:Onel Hernandez denying Jones has lost the dressing room.2 -

Chat GPT reckons he is suited for our defence at LCB but is a headcase and has already been sent off twice and booked 4 times this year9 -

So it turns out Coady was the midfield signing all along..?6
-
Disappointing if it is so but makes the Sichenje signing make more senseCallumcafc said:So it turns out Coady was the midfield signing all along..?6 -
If Coady is genuinely a midfield signing that is a joke.We needed players able to get up and down with a bit of attacking quality. Coady is the exact opposite of that.3

For the sake of preserving my mental health, I'm presuming we are still working on bringing in a mobile number 8.Laddick01 said:If Coady is genuinely a midfield signing that is a joke.We needed players able to get up and down with a bit of attacking quality. Coady is the exact opposite of that.
A player who has been bombed out of his last 2 clubs for being too slow at CB is not the answer to our midfield problems.8 -
Sorry. I disagree. We went and the team were a total embarrassmentRC_CAFC said:
I watched it. And I saw a team that tried hard in that first half but was limited by talent and tactical decisions. We set up completely wrong. Anderson and Gillesphey were completely out of their depth and in the second half, the shape was even worse.redbuttle said:
I assume you didn't go last week then.RC_CAFC said:

Jones has got the last couple of games wrong because of who he has played and where he has played them.3 -
Exactly the opposite profile to what we needed.Callumcafc said:So it turns out Coady was the midfield signing all along..?
But we all know Jones doesn't care about attack.1 -
Remember that time.Bailey said:
In season 1970/71 Charlton were facing there usual fight to avoid a drop into a division that they left in 1935. Manager Theo Foley, looking for inspiration moved right back Bob Curtis into a central midfield position for the last crucial nine games. Bob plus Paul Went and Keith Peacock were arguably our best players at the time. Bob scored five goals in those final nine games, Charlton pulled clear of the relegation pack and survived another season. The following season Charlton were safely mid table after beating Swindon 3-1 at home, captain and centre half Paul Went scoring two, and followed it with a 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough, sadly both Paul Went and Bob Curtis were injured for the final nine games in which Charlton managed two draws, losing seven, they were relegated with a 5-0 defeat at Blackpool.Sword65pf said:
Would be desperate to try this out, maybe go and buy a good enough midfieldTodds_right_hook said:
This has got me thinking, could Ramsay? He can tackle, he is physical, he can carry the ball into the attacking third but is his passing up to itI-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Could Collins be a CDM?
We were looking doomed.
Putting fullback Bobby Curtis into midfield proved to be a master stroke.
Curtis added drive and energy to the midfield, could win the ball, give it or carry it - even a trademark pile driver from outside the box.
And take a set piece.
Just what the team need today

A few eating humble pie so far…coady looking for the ball playing it about. What we needed vs 9 men Sheffield united. So far our new signings apart from Jones have been our best players.18

I think Doc has helped, he fights and does the simple things well, but when the side plays well he is often involved in our better moments.Red_Chester said:A few eating humble pie so far…coady looking for the ball playing it about. Said for a long time, Doc isn’t the greatest BUT we play better as a side when he’s in it.cfgs said:

Does the overlooked stuff. Not flash but makes us better.LargeAddick said:

I appreciate everything Doc has done for us, but we need a cooler head in the middle.0

Played reasonably well today albeit not much to do. Couldn’t have asked for an easier debut really.YannTheMann said:

Worked today. Guess we’ll find out if it fits long term.2 -
I think he played there today due to the game and form of others. Doubt it is a longterm fix.Laddick01 said:

Hahaha so it's gone from a joke to well find out if it works in the long term, gotcha! If we keep working off that scale he could be a club legend by the end of the season in your booksLaddick01 said:

If you think judging someone off one performance, in which he barely had to touch the ball is a gotcha then I don’t have much to say.YannTheMann said:

Worked today. Guess we’ll find out if it fits long term.If he does well in that role then yes, I am wrong. But today he had very little to do (he did lead well on the pitch). It’ll be a totally different game against QPR and we’ll see how he holds up.1 -

Now he’s lined up there it makes perfect sense to me.
I was far from convinced about him coming in to play centre back but it was a “in Jones we trust moment”.
Instead, he’s coming in to be the shield and the general in the middle of the pitch. Couldn’t ask for a better January option for that role.
Jones has done his nut on multiple occasions in the last month over our midfielders not doing what he wants them to do. At Blackburn, against Chelsea, Millwall…
His nous in front of the back three is going to be invaluable.22
