Twas the morn before transfer deadline, when all through social media
Not a journalist was stirring, not even Richard Cawley
The forum rumour threads were pinned with care,
In hopes that new rumours soon would be there

It would be nice to bolster the left side of defence and centre mid, but I'm not sure we will find what we want for our budget this window.

Apologies I've missed it, but who's this Collins fella you're all referring to?
    Or is it Colin? ;)

My Georgian cousin reckons he runs straight through defences to the bottom, but we decided he was to hot to handle.

    Edit. Posted without reading. Apologies.

Twas the morn before deadline, and all through the fanbase,
Every Charlton supporter refreshed at a frantic pace.
The ITK accounts were nestled, snug in their beds,
While visions of “medical booked” danced in their heads.

Not a whisper from SE7, not a leak nor a clue,
Just one bloke insisting, “My mate’s barber knows it’s true.”
And the club’s socials slept, silent as a mouse,
Probably still drafting “Welcome to Charlton” in Canva at the clubhouse.

Yet hope sprang eternal, as it always does here,
That a striker who scores goals might magically appear.
So we wait, and we scroll, and we pray to the gods of Sky Sports—
Because nothing says romance like deadline-day reports.

I like Doc but he panics on the ball and that makes it hard for us to transition from defence to attack. Anderson is the same, plenty of bite and endeavour but really poor distribution. We would benefit massively from a midfielder who can track mercilessly in midfield but then start off attacks when he receives the ball, give a passing option to the defence and then move the ball on effectively. But then who wouldn't, that kind of midfielder is on every single EFL team's wishlist and they're hard to find, it will almost certainly have to be a Premier League loan and we'll need him to be strong enough to compete. Another Conor Gallagher level discovery needed

Its a millwall inspired "wind up".  He probably does exist, but if he's coming here he or his agent are  going the wrong way about it !.

Just after the 4-0 , a picture of him appeared on here (dont know where it came from), badly done with him wearing a red football shirt (no sponsor name) and holding a similar one in front of him (still no sponsor name so not a Charlton shirt). The background was a picture of one of the Valley stands in the top half, with what looked like a small ground stand (like a non league one) in the lower half.

The "give away" which most on here seem to have ignored was in the 4 lines of text below the picture. It referred  to Charlton as a "comic" club and further down called us "Anoraks Athletic".

Its millwall fans that call us that.

Just after the 4-0 , a mate of mine that supports the Spanners sent me a picture on WhatsApp that was clearly a millwall organised AI generated piss take picture of Charlton fans on the train with their heads in their hands.  They all had shirts with the word Charlton on the front not the sponsor name, and the train was supposed to be at Charlton station except that the station name board was visible though the window and it was in the style of a London Tube station name board. Charlton isnt on the tube network.

I've mentioned all this a couple of times on here but only a couple of people have picked up on it.

I cant remember the page number that the big picture mentioned above is on, but if you search through the pages after the 4-0 date (at least one day later) you'll find it eventually.

There's more to it than that, i think. NJ literally said to Cawley 'ill let you know if there's any news on that'

typical!, our owners have got no ambition, and Jones no clue - how on earth is HE going to cover the left side when Bell's out!?

I heard that they are trying to get a midfielder over the line but no guarantee that it will happen.

  • I think we can forget about another midfielder coming in after Jones' comments post Leicester (we're basically done apart from possibily bringing our summer business forward (Collins)). Big mistake in my opinion.

Coady is fine for a tough away game but we definitely need more creativity and movement when trying to break teams down at home.

Here's what i think will happen:

Dixon: back from Crawley and loaned to a non league club
A Mitchell: permanent move to Plymouth
    Collins: in
Anderson: out on loan to a L2 club

Plus a couple of youngsters out on loan.

Getting rid of Anderson and not getting another midfielder in would be madness with Knibbs out for the season, Doc struggling for form and Coventry supposedly having a knock

I think finding that player is probably one for the summer rather than something possible today. Today we should be able to get someone that is better than Docherty and Anderson on the ball but they probably still won’t be amazing with it

Most home games we still play with less of the ball than the opposition. The only time we need to break teams down is when we go behind in games, but Jones teams don’t play that way to break teams down. It’s why we barely look better against 10 (or even 9) men because we don’t have the players to move the ball well.

We saw it last season loads but when chasing a goal we don’t patiently move the ball side to side to try and break teams down with passes through the lines and creativity. We instead go more and more direct which is why we now have 2 big men and also Coady who has a very good range of passing. It’s worked pretty well for the last 2 years so I can’t see it changing much, we will see big men up top and then Coady and/or Gillesphey launching long balls with the likes of Carey, Godden or Berry there for the scraps
  • Like most seem to be saying I'd be very happy with a new midfielder, ideally and 8 who can do a bit of everything, we know NJ won't be signing a dribbly creator.

If we then sign Collins as cover / a development project I'd be pretty happy.

Further to my piece earlier this morning about "Colins",  iv'e found the said picture with the offending text below it, and its on pages 171 and 173 and the offensive bits are we are called a "Comic London Club" and "Spotters Athletic" not Anoraks Athletic.  Apologies for my fading memory .

I still say its a wind up !

We desperately need another CM to unlock teams and add more goals. Might be too big an ask in Jan but we shouldn’t be loaning Karoy out unless we have someone lined up,

I mean, he definitely exists! There are videos of him playing football. The reporting is a bit more substantial than Millwall generated AI images. Richard Cawley has asked NJ about it, confirmed our interest on Twitter and there are media reports from Kenya and Serbia too. It seems like we are just waiting for a few dominoes to fall before it is announced.

Wouldn't be surprised if Berry is allowed to leave, but that probably only happens if we sign a midfielder ourselves.
