I'd bring back Assimwe and Kanu 1st Jan, have them in the squad until we sign cover and then loan them straight back to the clubs they're at
Surely that would give us a bad reputation as a loaning club in the future . Who would want a player for 5 months, parent club recalls and then sends them back a month later when they have lost match sharpness
Chelsea did it to us and they have 15 players out on loan atm
  • Jones in his press conference basically saying that they won’t panic and that January is more about “top ups”, that we signed good players in the summer and January is “never a massive window”.
Even if we are in the bottom 3  ?
    We aren't and won't be...

Who did we get back from them after a month back at Chelsea?

Think there a number of points that people need to remember .. we got promoted 12 months earlier then expected and this has had a major effect on our younger players like Leaburn and Campbell plus others who may have been regulars in league one .. another 12 months and these players would be better prepared, but also coming up is tough but made more difficult that we were 3 weeks behind everyone else .. if we had a full pre season players like Kelman and Knibbs may have joined earlier and more important had a pre season even joined the team on tour .. instead of trying to get fit in championship matches .. still say you offer the club 4th from bottom on GD they would have and will now snap your hand off
    Hack alert.

If we decide to recall a player, which I think is unlikely unless the injuries are worse than expected, I think it would only be Kanu or Asimwe. Kanu can press, and he can score. He’s the closest thing to a Kelman replacement we have on the books. I think they want Mbick to pay, so they’ll leave him alone.

Asimwe maybe because he is a wingback, but I think that would be a desperation move. Unless he’s improved significantly, he’d just be cover, not a starter.

Mitchell, no chance, too slow. Dixon hasn’t be lighting it up, so no recall for him.
  • Survival by goal average most Charlton fans would take & rightfully so. That would be a huge achievement! My gut feeling is should we have an unsuccessful window it’s going to be tight. Really tight! We know about the left wingback but I think they’ll be hunting a strong goal scorer. Too much pressure for Kelman/Tanto finding their feet & Matty returning from injury a lot ask.

I think it’s hard to be unsuccessful it’s not like we need half a new starting XI and have no places for loan players. A pair of wingbacks a CB and a striker and we’re sorted 4 players all who don’t need to be starters isn’t a massive ask
  • Totally right Southlincs! Us fans can be so unrealistic including myself. We were promoted along side two mega rich clubs and are the bookies favourite for relegation. Anything other is Nathan Jones at his best yet again! These owners own nothing but debt and we should all feel lucky to be where we currently sit. Yes, we need more quality and that’s quite clear. A left wingback we’ll spend money on & hopefully loan Miles out & replace with a loan.
Good point, as Roland owns the physical assets were even less attractive to ‘good’ owners as they just own a bunch of debt.
    We got excellent owners …
Don’t worry Ronnie, I wasn’t criticising our current owners. I think we got lucky with them, but not owning our own ground and training ground does leave us exposed to crooks who can buy us for £1. As good as they are they’re not going to pump huge unrealistic amounts of money into the club without any physical assets. The kind of fantasy amounts of money Golfie always claims the team needs, as if he’s the voice of reason.

I think they will need to change their tune if results don't go our way in the next 3 games.
I hope they don't as having a board and manager panicking in January is a recipe for disaster and more likely, in long term, we will be left with players not good enough on high wages.

You think in a press conference, our manager is going to say "we won't panic in January, unless we're in the bottom 3, then we will panic and spend millions"

There won’t be no panic .. can’t see more then two coming in as only Edwards maybe Godden middle of the month should be missing come January .. as for recalls why would we recall players just to be benchwarmers for the rest of the season ..

Birmingham manager has stated he won't stand in Lyndon Dykes way if he wants a move for regular football. Id definitely take him.

100 percent. I agree with you there. He is a top player who would transform our midfield. Keeps it simple and can pick out a pass when needed.

who was the brum player NJ was having a long chat with after the final whistle... ;)
Lyndon Dykes .. he'd certainly up the squad's tattoo count

  • Not sure Dykes fits the system does he, thought he was a big strong target man. We need someone who’s quick to press, even Leaburn is to slow.
  • I'd be delighted if we sign Lyndon Dykes, he lives up my road, hopefully I'd become ITK :)

Think him with Kelman/Tanto could be a great combinatoon

Is your road closer to Charlton than Birmingham? 😂

Last season Wycombe had Caleb Taylor on loan from WBA. They recalled him at the start of January, but sent him back to Wycombe at the end of the month. Wycombe were happy to take him back.
I've just noticed that Taylor has gone to Millwall. I MUST keep up lol
He would have been be the ideal replacement for or to play alongside Lloyd Jones

Didn’t NJ have a long chat with him after the Birmingham game? Or am I completely mistaken and it was someone else?

Would be a perfect foil for our strikers. People mentioned TC being an outlet but someone like Dykes would take that mantle away from him and allow TC the freedom to make more of an impact.
  • Three goals in 41 appearances haven’t we got enough non scoring forwards?

Think we’ll just pick up a LWB/left sided centre back and maybe a right wing back if bree’s going back to soton. I doubt there’ll be any goal scoring strikers available for non silly money in January.

I reckon we will sign a lwb, potentially a rwb and a forward on loan

Fair enough he may not score a lot of goals, but his hold up play and getting others in and around the game is second to none. My god is he a unit as well, someone you can definitely play off.

We need someone who can put the ball in the net.

Completely understand your point and agree with you entirely but Dykes would be much better suited for the Leaburn role than any other striker we have.

I’d hope there would be better options out there than Lyndon Dykes but if the option is either Dykes or no one id definitely take him

Dykes will want to perform before the world cup and I've always thought he was a decent player. Australian turned Scot, the kind of tough target man I'd like us to have but I do wonder how many pennies are left in the biscuit tin for NJ, I just don't see the owners giving much further budget this season. Hopefully I'm wrong.
