I’d be very excited by Scanlon. He was good enough for Millwall to want to bring him in last season and they were pushing up towards play offs, and he started well there by scoring in his second game. Makes me think he’s definitely a championship level player

Only concern really is how fit he is, will he be able to go straight into the starting eleven or will he need some time to get up to speed?

When was the last time we signed anyone able to go straight into the starting eleven?

    New left-winger incoming.
We won’t be short of strikers, if true.

We’ll get scotty minto to collar his old mate liam rosenoir on saturday and convince him to offload some of their players on loan.
The last Chelsea LB we had on loan didn't really work out....
YOU LEAVE IAN MAA oh right yeah that other one
Hahahahah!!! Just the 2 appearances 😉

Well we could have solved the issue in the summer instead of Burke and Apter , got in Caleb Taylor. Doing a great job for Millwall, tall quick CB and just bought property in Sidcup. Would have taken the pressure off the likes of Bell and Ramsay.
But an injury prone Luton man and an untried League 1 winger are not contributing enough.
Apter technically is one of the best in the squad but has suffered due to the imbalance of the team starting with the injury to Edwards. Needs to be playing in the last third.
I am afraid however technically good he is, he is too lightweight for the Champ. He cannot play wingback for that reason, he is not even as good as TC there and TC cannot do it either.
In addition, Apter is a winger and NJ does not play with wingers.
I don't think Apter has a future with us and really, for his benefit as well, he should be moved on.
I disagree! For Blackpool he wasn’t playing as a winger and baring in mind throughout August he was one of our best players. He doesn’t possess pace but good on the ball & has a football brain unlike Campbell.
Agree Apter is a much better option than TC because he has a football brain. TC is faster but rarely contributes to anything meaningful + he's got a silly haircut !
That's weird, my dog just started barking

Scanlon was injured at the start of the 2024-2025 season, missed 4 months I think, went on loan to millwall, played a handful of games, injured his hamstring, and as far as I can tell, he hasn’t played a single game since then. I’m not sure why we’d risk taking him when we need someone who can start for at least a couple of months.

Callum Scanlon was the name that seemed to be the most obvious from goodenoles posts
It is scanlon - I am informed by a pal I play football with who knows someone at the club

Due back around the 17th according to transfermarkt which backs up what I was told a few days ago about the player still being injured

Harsh to forget Lil Jay DaSilva in that mix!

Scanlon sounds absolutely perfect for Charlton, obviously the club are worried about the medical team twiddling their thumbs with the other players getting fit.

I see rumblings elsewhere that the owners have “taken us as far as they are prepared to” because we haven’t signed anyone in the first week of the January window.

It is one of the joys of this forum that that kind of moronic viewpoint is very rare and shot down fast if it appears.

As always with transfers, better to wait a couple of weeks for the right player than rush into the wrong one.

A reminder of the perils of the January window is what happened to Luton last January.

In a bid to stay up they signed highly rated young Norwegian striker Lasse Nordås for a fee of around £2.6m to score the goals to keep them up.

After zero goals (and hardly playing) last season, and just 1 in L1 this season, he's been loaned out to a Dutch team.

I think our owners will try to make sure we stay in this league this season. They know that it would be a disaster to go back in League 1.

Tbf we've all known that we needed a LWB since....er....2 months ago. Should have been on the blower then & had someone lined up to come in on Jan 2nd. But a week  has passed & we are no closer to signing anyone......apart from an already injured one.

But it's not easy as that they tell me. Wheels have to be put into motion & cogs have to turn. We also have to wait for club A to sell to club B so that club C can sign player x......

So not putting any money on a fit, ready to go LWB starting against Sheff Utd in 8 days time.

    Agree with both points.

I just made the mistake of checking the 'other' place for any Transfer news. Holy crap. Talk about a whinge fest! lol

Scott Minto could still do a job and probably in better shape than Roussillon.

If it was that easy we’d see loads of deals announced on 2nd January. That not happening isn’t unique to us.

Ive had a brief look at left footed lb/lwb/lcb and there really isn't too many, no matter ones that might be available to loan/buy.

We're really putting our eggs in the Josh staying fit basket and hoping Roussillon gets fit enough to play 30min every game, he's clearly played at a very high level most of his career and isn't 'too old' certainly not for the 6 months we need him for.
