    FILM TO AVOID

                                                              RECOMMENDED FILM OF THE DAY

                                                                                  COLLATERAL

Excitedly, when Folie a Deux came out, I wrangled a rare evening free to watch it back to back with the first film. Think it's the most disappointing film I've ever seen. A real "wtf".
Makes sense. In French, in this context, if you say something 'est une folie' it doesn't translate literally as 'it's madness' but 'it's stupid / nonsensical'

The now underused English word 'folly' has this interpretation:  'Folie à deux' is a folly.

Just watched Oppenheimer which was recommended on here the other day (on BBC iPlayer)
A slow burner for me but I got really engrossed with the story and film. Well worth watching. Acting, dialogue, sound and visual were all very good. Can see why it was so highly acclaimed.

I know he is a supporting actor in three billboards but Sam Rockwell is one of my favourite actors of recent years. Great in fosse/verdon alongside Michelle Williams. Who is also another fav.

But yeah, also recommend three billboards.

I find all these films to be a bit old hat.

I remember the days when terrestrial television showed TV premiers at Christmas. Back to the Future, for example, was shown on Christmas Day which was the first opportunity to see it other than at the cinema. Nowadays you need to pay extra to see anything decent.

Echo 3 Billboards. And Inception is a pretty good film too.

Watched Exotic Marigold Hotel earlier. Very disappointed that they have sanitised it. Only watched the first 20 mins as they cut out a scene with Maggie Smith as she comes home from her hospital appt & has a conversation with the transport driver.

    "My wife's Indian "

    "Well, you married her".

(I'm well aware the bit before she talks about black hearts & stealing.....but hardly the most racist thing ever said in a film. And that's her character in the film.)
