MATCH THREAD : Blackburn Rovers V Charlton Athletic : Sunday 4th January 2026 : KO 15:00
Hi everyone…
Today is another away day in this ludicrous Christmas/ New Year schedule, this time it's a trip north and an encounter with Blackburn Rovers up at Ewood Park who sit one place and one point adrift of us after a 0-2 home loss to Wrexham, while we were drawing with Coventry City on New Years Day, we will be looking to complete the double over them following the 3-0 victory we achieved way back in September last year, when we had Ramsay and Edwards playing it must be said.
We remain without Kayne Ramsay (hamstring), Josh Edwards (ankle), Onel Hernández (hamstring) and Matty Godden (knee) this weekend, one player I should think that is really looking forward to this match is our new saviour JRC, he must be hoping that NJ keeps the faith and puts him in from the start against his previous club, no brainer really…
Hayden Carter , Scott Wharton, Adam Forshaw, Sidnei Tavares, Ryoya Morishita, Kristi Montgomery, Augustus Kargbo, and Andri Gudjohnsen are all sidelined for the hosts, while Ryan Alebiosu is away on international duty.
We've met on 81 previous occasions, winning 28, Rovers winning 36 and the remaining 17 ending all square, we ran out 3-0 victors in the reverse fixture earlier at The Valley in September 2025, with Macaulay Gillesphey, Sonny Carey and James Bree all on the scoresheet.
We'll be wearing our red home kit in Lancashire…hoooorayyy!!!
TEAM NEWS…Nathan Jones has named an unchanged line-up this afternoon, It will be the third game in a row that the same XI have started, with Jones utilising the line-up against Portsmouth on Monday and Coventry City on New Year’s Day.
Reece Burke, captain Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell make up a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
James Bree and Tyreece Campbell are likely to operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, who scored against Coventry, and Luke Berry in a midfield three. Miles Leaburn and Charlie Kelman once again start up front.
Will Mannion, Macaulay Gillesphey, Keenan Gough, Greg Docherty, Sonny Carey, Harvey Knibbs, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Fullah and Tanto Olaofe make up an unchanged substitutes bench.
Charlton: Kaminski; Burke, Jones (c), Bell; Bree, Coventry, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Campbell; Leaburn, Kelman
Subs: Mannion, Gillesphey, Gough, Docherty, Carey, Knibbs, Apter, Fullah, Olaofe

Hopefully the team can maintain the level of performance shown in the last couple of weeks after a busy schedule. If they can then the 3 points is there for the taking.
0-2 and 3 points in the bag I think1 -

Can’t see her being that clinical in the 18 yard box though.Sword65pf said:

Just finished reading the "preview" thread and it appears that we are going to be 19-0 up when the game gets called off.
My question is; who do we think is going to score our 19 goals?6 -

Unchanged, again.0

Berry starting again, bizarre.9

Christ, Berry!! He was so useless on Thursday.0

Berry over Carey, Knibbs or even Doc. It doesn't equate to him having a poor game, so no point throwing the toys out of the pram. Just a surprise as he spends a lot of the game on the deck now.0

Seeing that Fen has gone awol2

Yea the Berry thing is an odd one. He does have a knack of being in the right place for a goal, but needs to give more than against Cov1

But so does Knibbs in a similar way, and Carey and Fullah are goalscoring midfielders too.TheHerminator said:Yea the Berry thing is an odd one. He does have a knack of being in the right place for a goal, but needs to give more to an against Cov5 -

Only reason I can see for an unchanged team is that we've looked better with this eleven as whole from the beginning in our last two matches... Against Portsmouth we should have been ahead by HT and Coventry could have been the same, but for the error, albeit coming from Berry's mishap high up the pitch. The game changers in those two matches have been "effective" as well, apart from the late Portsmouth lapse, so can "see" why Jones doesn't want to change the team at the moment, but think a bit of fine tuning with Carey or Knibbs starting, with Berry as a GC, would make us that bit more clinical. The negative is whilst looking good, we've still only got one point from this line up in two games, despite it should have been more... can argue in the same sense that I should be a million but am not... and also I worry that it starts to make us look a tad predictable.4
