These players are such arseh*les, it’s unbelievable that this keeps happening.

Why aren’t they banned for life, presumably it’s because they know they won’t and can get away with it!

Seen the point raised elsewhere and it was also brought up during the Ashes tour Down Under , besides Root most of this England cricket squad could go for drinks anywhere in the country and most people bar diehard cricket fans would recognise them as professional sportsmen.

I think this is a pretty big underestimation of how these things are in these types of clubs.

They will be in a roped off VIP area of the club likely with their own security minder as well as one from the club manning the rope. Word will quickly get round that the England cricket team are there. They will probably be acting all Billy big bollocks (skipping queues, champagne and shots brought to the table etc.). It only takes one bloke to get annoyed that he's not the big man in the club anymore, or that the girl he's into is throwing herself at the professional sportsman, or to try and be mates with them and get ignored and it can all kick off.

When I was at uni of the Kent Cricket team were in the club (happened fairly regularly) the whole place would know even people with zero interest in cricket. It would draw a lot of attention. They would act like celebs (getting people kicked off tables so they could have a bigger space etc.). Never kicked off while I was there but can see how it would. Did see a certain Kent Cricketer with a bit of a reputation as a loose cannon windmill his knob on the dancefloor!
Perhaps the gentleman in question got in trouble with a certain England player many years ago now.
I could not possibly comment! ;)

England 26-2, both openers out in tough conditions.

Can't we find a pair of openers that could possibly stay in till lunch?

I wonder how long they'll stick with Gay if he doesn’t get a score or two soon.

I'm sorry but then is so incredibly loose from Brook. Yes it came back a long way but it wasn't a half-volley.

    52* (90) for Cox

You can trust the Kent lads to dig England out of trouble

    142-5 (38)

    Smith 11* (28)

I've seen a few slip catches in my time but that one has to be right up there

And Smith does the same thing - booming drive to the moving ball

    Fuming again.

Had to attend a team meeting this afternoon & left dead on 12.20 so didnt get to see any play this morning. Walked in through the door at 6pm just to see Acher being bowled. 5 mins later they go off for bad light.

    Arrrgghhhhh.

At least there's something to moan about after your uncharacteristic cheeriness the other day!

To be fair, I posted that comment after the fall of the wicket, not before  :D

When I hear ex England captains talking about a Par score at Lords it surely depends what the weather conditions are.
Batting when there's been cloud and rain then 230 is par once the sun is out and as England bat deep 290 is the Par score.

Just like Golf it can be well under or over !

Not a good decision by Paul Reifel there. Well out !

England have such a good seam attack. Just when batsmen start to get on top against one type of bowler, you can bring on a different one, asking new questions.

That is twice Archer has made "assumptive appeals" without even appealing to the umpire. And both times he has been totally wrong. I see that regularly on a Saturday afternoon in club cricket and it is intended to be intimidatory. It is so wrong at every level of cricket.

Stupid shot by Duckett, against such a weak and tired attack

    Umps getting another decision wrong.

In the Headingley test I believe they got everyone right on review.

    Cox out now (ooh er)

The umpires have had a poor day. A surprising number of overturned decisions today. 3 LBWs not given,  but also 2 catches given when it didn't hit the bat.

Should be looking to get at least a 350 run lead here. Although wouldn't surprise me if we had a bit of a collapse & were all out for less than 150.

    Awful review from Root.

Root LBW 9 times in his last 12 innings suggests to me that he keeps missing straight ones!

The modern way of covering all three stumps doesn't exactly lend itself to the moving ball

It looked like Gay asked him to review it. Anything to keep in the Captain's good books   :D

A action packed day, but a bit unsatisfying too. And unlike the NZ Test here, you can't just blame the pitch.
