Well, that wasn't bad was it ?

Apart from the great win itself, several aspects really brought a smile to my old face ...in between slurps.

Echo wmcf123's post re Harry Finch as I've also stated in recent posts. Love the bones of him & how reliable, sensible & skilful he is. A true gem to have in the squad.

Also, really impressed with Joe's bowling this afternoon . But for 2 dropped catches he would have come away with very good figures but as it was, bowled better than I've seen for some time. Not sure about his batting thus far though this season....but what do I know ?

And finally, I've tended to be a bit of a critic of Bilbo in T20s over the past couple of seasons, wondering if his heart is really "in it" but he now appears to have the bit firmly between his teeth & is back to his best IMO. The Surrey commentators were very impressed with his field placings today & the way he constantly talks to his men ( and the opposing batter !) Long may it last ! Welcome back home young man.

Could this be our season ? B)

    Agree with you Fanny.
Kent looked sharp and lively in the field right from the start.
My first visit to The Oval for about 10 years. Can we play them every week?

How many matches are there in the group stages?
12 in total so we have 8 to go. We play all the other five counties in the group home and away and also Notts (H) and Worcestershire (A) from the two other groups. The top two in the three groups and best two third placed sides then quality for the QFs.

Thanks AA. I thought it might be 10, but never realsied we played 2 teams in a completely different group entirely!

yep - odd to play teams not in the same group, in the group stages though!

It's cricket, why would you do anything sensibly?!

It's crazy the number of short term deals we do, whether overseas players or domestic loans.

Confirmed by Mahmud's agent but not Kent as yet. Means that either Muthusamy isn't coming after all or that we will be using Mahmud to rotate the quicks. Whichever it is, this does demonstrate that we are being pro-active in trying to secure promotion.

I think that this was planned. We might, for example, have signed a couple more players on permanent contracts but that would not have left us without the financial scope to bring in any others on short term deals. We also live in a world where most of the better players simply aren't going to be available for the duration of the season.

One such example would be Lintott. We could have signed another spinner at the beginning of the season on a three-year contract, as we did with James Logan and find that he has to spend vast majority of that playing for the 2s. We've now got a top spinner that is proven and one that we might then be able to sign on a permanent deal.

England Lions were well beaten by 9 wickets yesterday. They have added Ben Dawkins and Ekansh Singh to the squad.

Squad below for tomorrow's game against Sussex. Forrester is now with South Africa A. As mentioned above, Dawkins and Ekansh are with the Lions for those two matches. Rogers has a hamstring injury and not expected to be fit until our game against Notts on 26th June. Muyeye is still out under the ECB had injury protocol. Stewart is back in the squad.

Is Freddie still coaching the Lions? I thought I saw something about him getting a job in Australia - but it is their winter right now

He's the new Sydney Thunder coach but won't take that up until towards the end of the year

I have no idea why this is being played in the middle of the Blast. So many sides missing key players this weekend.

Or players like Tribe are playing two games within less than 24 hours, ridiculous

I saw Ben McKinney has played tonight for Durham and will probably play tomorrow for the Lions.

That is probably the reason why Dawkins and Ekansh have been brought in. I can't see how they play unless a couple of the top order of Rew, Mckinney, Cox, Tribe, Rehan, Coles and Mayes are left out and the likely candidates are McKinney and Tribe for the reasons suggested.

ECB have released Henry Crocombe to play this afternoon for Sussex but on the understanding he joins back up with the Lions this evening.
