    Little disappointed tbh. He's one of few we had that could hold his own at this level. Had a bit of nous. 
    Not sure he's at the level of what I would presume is a promotion push though?

    Thank you Dykes for helping us stay up, all the best. Average striker at this level and I believe his stand out performances were due to him pushing for the World Cup.

    Remember watching one of Scotlands game against Brazil I think, Scotland on the attack and Dykes in a position to be passed too but it looked like whoever had the ball was like "nope, not passing to you"

    yep remember that clearly Dykes was in lots of space too and he clearly didn't want to pass to him,

    McTominay was doing everything in his power to avoid Dykes getting the ball haha. Proper brutal watch.

    Really wanted us to re-sign Dykes - don’t quite understand some of the vitriol towards him.  

    He was immense in our relegation fight when we first signed him and scored 3 memorable goals against Leicester, Bristol City and West Brom, and got a vital headed assist against Sheffield U (he is good in the air - that’s a fact). 

    I do understand the argument about him downing tools after he got in the World Cup squad - there was definitely a drop off in performance towards the end of the season.  However, overall I think he’s someone you might want around the place when the going gets tough.  

    The fact that apparently Jones wanted to re-sign him too (long contract offered), yet couldn’t, is surely a little worrying?

    Totally agree. If he'd ended the season how he'd started, more people would have wanted to sign him. It's just recency bias. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter because he's gone somewhere else. 

    I wouldn't disagree with people who say that he's "bang average" at this level, but that's better than most of our players. 

    I don't find it too worrying that he went to Millwall, they can surely afford higher wages than us.

    I have nothing against Dykes myself, I thought he did a decent job for us and would have had no problem in extending his stay. I guess both parties couldn't agree and that's that, the longer it dragged on it didn't look like he'd come back anyway. We really should have more irons in the fire than to be hanging on to one player's yay or nay anyway. (Hopefully we have but we are cutting it fine!)

    I’m not that worried by this at all. We won’t have offered Dykes a particularly competitive contract especially compared to what Milwall have so it’s probably far more tempting for him to take 1 year better paid and then reassess next summer.

    As for the player, he did the job he was brought in to do. But he’s a limited footballer and I’m happy he’s not with us next season.

    No great loss, imo. Did alright for a bit and had some Championship nouse, but was also pretty limited. I reckon, if we'd signed him permanently, by November we'd have all been moaning about lack of goals and how we just hoof the ball at him. I prefer Godden if we can keep him fit, although that's far from a certainty.

    I am a bit concerned about our options at Centre Forward, but I didn't especially feel like Dykes was the long term solution.

    I'd have liked to have kept him as he is about our level. A lower end championship player. He ain't done bad to get himself a year at a championship playoff club. Fair play.

    I was underwhelmed when we signed him then largely positive about it overall at the end of the season. He did a job for us. I think Dykes looked better when you were at the game when you could see his overal contribution to the team. But he didn't score enough goals and hasn't throughout his career. I didn't want us to sign him for this season. I wanted us to sign better, but we haven't yet.

    What annoys me, is Leaburn has better attributes than Dykes but we just don't see it all come together. This is a make or break season for him but I would have him over Dykes as I think his ceiling is higher.

    He turned out to be a very decent, although limited,  target man - better  than I thought when we signed him and definitely better than Leaburn in the air  - he’ll be cover for coburn and vice versa I’d say - he would have been a useful addition but our needs are greater elsewhere - I’m pleased they’ve signed him tbh - a sensible signing but not going to improve the way they play in the slightest - aimed at grinding out more wins in a 1 up top system
