Sheff Utd ran rings around us in the first half. Great saves from Kaminski to keep us in it. To be fair, our heads didn't drop.
Haven't seen the reds back, but by all accounts deserved.
Second half... I don't think the players necessarily played badly.. . I fear they were instructed to play defensively, keep men back, and the outcome was inertia against 9 men.
For me, that was a second half to attack, take risks, and maybe come out with a 4-1, get the goal difference improved. Not see out a clean sheet.
Last minute, Sheff Utd piling forward, lobbing balls in the box, we take off our tallest player. I didn't understand that - considering we'd just spent 45 minutes preserving the clean sheet.
The most frustrating win.11 -
That wasn’t good, 3pts is great though. Blades players lost the plot early, the 2nd red was nailed on for that particular player, Bamford is a complete twat!!, Dykes looked a useful pain in the arse, Clarke was ok and I liked that he was letting the others in red have it at times, think we need a bit of that. Anderson again proved why he shouldn’t be in the team at the moment, I just beg for him to look forward, he doesn’t. We are so slow in our build up play it can be agonising to watch. We look so much better when we play with more pace and urgency. Will take a poor performance win over a well played loss. Hopefully improvements will be made on Tuesday.2

Terrible performance both v 11 men and v 9.
1st we were outplayed and only Kaminski saved us, literally.
Early 2nd half goal should have been springboard to easy 3 or 4 win but we were sloppy.
Hard to judge v 9 but Dykes and Clarke looked good.
Whole team needs to improve and we need a LWB.
Not seen the two red card incidents but the 2nd looked horrendous. Hope Knibbs isn't too bad but at least it is an area of the pitch where we have decent cover.
Bumped into Miles' mum pre-game who was looking very relaxed. Callum Harriot was there too.16 -
I don’t think that performance deserves more than a rowing boat.siblers said:Be interesting to see if the Battleship makes an appearance3 -
We were terrible. Kaminski made a couple of good saves - gets loads of stick but he is a good shot stopper.
Sheff U truly battered us prior to the red cards - pretty embarrassing to watch.
The substitution of Leaburn at the end was bizarre...6 -
Highlights from SUTV weirdly omit both red cards entirely from the video28

It was a massive forearm smash to a defenceless opponent. I think he can have no complaints and don’t expect it to be overturned if they appeal.Dazzler21 said:On the second red card, watching the replays I'd say definite yellow, harsh red. It wasn't exactly a shearer elbow but he came in at velocity.3 -
We are still only 5pts clear of 22nd place Norwich. Shows how lucky we were today and how close to relegation actually are.10

Weird that we still haven't heard from NJ.0

How can it worse than Southampton when we kept a clean sheet?Diebythesword said:Worst performance this season, even worse than Southampton. Bizarre united threw it away completely, I’d be livid if I was a blade. You could see Clarke being exasperated by the lack of running etc when we had the ball.2 -
Should have been three nil down by half time. Should have been three nil up at full time.
A very frustrating second half! Negative, negative, negative!
Pleased with the three point, Kaminski and Dyke and the subs.
Not pleased with a midfield lacking a defensive edge first half, playing a right back as wingback, or the incredibly negative tactics after the goal. Kinda parking the bus badly! Why not bring on Apter? Surely an idea half for him?
Ridiculously cautious, defensive and negative in the second half. Why do I feel like we lost.??!!6 -

There have been countless other posters saying similar on this thread.
Ronnie says some bizarre stuff sometimes but that’s a blend and mix of opinions from every other post on here. Don’t see the problem with it13 -

Sure, but in the end we did exactly what we needed to. We were struggling until Sheff Utd lost their minds and handed us the game. We scored very, very early second half and decided that realistically an already fragile Utd team weren’t going to do much about it and we were right. 3 points without ever really having to play well is fine by me given we’re still a few signings or returns from injury away from being where we need to be. No Edwards and Bell and no-one in to replace them, an out of position LWB playing his last game for us and Gillesphey doing his best and we’ve still beaten a Sheff Utd team worth millions more than ours. On another day we might have played at our best and still lost. I just can’t be anything other than happy given Pompey got an easy 3 points off Wednesday like we knew they would and Norwich got a win off a good side in Wrexham. It’s another game closer to the end of the season, no-one has gained any points on us and we’re still out of the relegation zone.PaddyP17 said:
A good way of looking at it sure, but as one of the people whining about winning, let me elaborate.Garrymanilow said:We’ve gone from ‘I’ll take 21st any way possible’ at the start of the season to whining about winning very quickly, well done everyone. We’ve gained ground on Oxford, West Brom and Blackburn today while beating a team who I don’t think we expected to get 6 points off this season all without a functional LWB and missing some key players. I’ll definitely take it. It’s a good day
We play like that against 11 men, we will lose. If we had conceded on a break - remember, Swindon back in 2009 or whenever it was conceded 2 against our 9 men - I didn't see where our impetus would re-emerge from.
I genuinely think we tried to see it out from minute 50, and it wasn't fun to watch. Add what looks like a bad injury for Knibbs into the mix and it takes a lot of gloss off the three points.
It was not the standard I would want to see rest of season. I think it was a low point, sure, and things will look better (we were alright against e.g. Coventry for instance), and we will start better XIs, but... that was a *very* low point in terms of actual performance, and we took a game management risk that REALLY could have backfired.11 -
But we kept a clean sheet in the first half against a side that looked really good in attack with Bamford. Lots of positives to take imokillerandflash said:

I’ve never walked away from the Valley feeling so flat after a win. We were utter shite all game.
So many poor performances.
How Anderson finished the game is beyond me, he is no where near ready for the Championship.9 -

Yes Kaminski played well, but when your keeper is your best player, that's hardly something to celebrate.1 -
PWR.
Not at the game so can omly go on what was said on here during the match......and my general observations of the season so far.
Sounds like we got out of jail. TK kept us in it for the first 35 mins & then 2 reds turned the game. Yes, 3 points is 3 points but unless we meet teams who are going to have players sent off every match then something has to change. In a way it will as Bree wont be around anymore (what a stupid decision to play him on the left in any case) and so without a LWB Jones will have to go back to putting TC there....or think up another cunning plan with our right footed players 🤔🤷♂️. Today just papered over the cracks & although we are starting to get players back (Ramsay & Godden) we really need to sort out the left side of our defence pretty damn quick if we want to stay away from the relegation places. I have tried not to comment on our (non) action in the transfer market re a LWB (I did post last week on that thread but got pelters so left the week ride out to see where we would be going into this weekend).
Our attacking threat (or lack thereof) still concerns me and even if we sort out the LWB position I still think we will struggle to win enough games to be safe going into the last few weeks of the season. Probably need another 6 or 7 wins with a few draws thrown in to be safe. Love to think today could be a springboard but I have a fear we will lose the next 3 games (or at least wont pick up a win) and we will be looking over shoulder again going into February.6 -
With other results today we are incredibly lucky not to be only 2 points above relegation take the 3 points and move on
against 9 men it’s impossible to judge an individual performance but I thought the new signings looked ok.
less said about the performance the better other than we better be better than that on Tuesday0 -
Posting without reading yet, but can’t remember the last time I’ve felt so uninspired by a victory.Lots to consider
Suspect we’ll get treated to Jones moaning about supporters lack of patience etc…13 -

I’ll be disappointed if he does moan because he royally cocked up the starting lineup.AFKABartram said:Posting without reading yet, but can’t remember the last time I’ve felt so uninspired by a victory.Lots to consider

There’s an easy answer to that.llama_child_21cws said:If the team play without passion or conviction, don’t expect much in return.Which can certainly not be aimed at Jones, without this we would be in a more dangerous position than we are now.Second season syndrome is how I see it, survive this one and need to build on it next season.1
