Posting without reading. I felt like tonight was probably a night to stay off of CL because of the inevitably obvious car crash between the optimists and the realists. But oh well, let's not pretend this site isn't an addictive dopamine hook that can be avoided.
I thought we were so incredibly lucky to not be 4 - 0 down early on the first half. Kaminski singlehandedly kept us in it. It took two sendings off for us to scrape the win.
It's so weird that we won, and yet it's the first day of the season that I thought to myself... We really could go down. I hadn't thought it was a possibility before today. I genuinely thought we had enough. But now, I'm really not sure.

We are nowhere near the team we were in August & September. We havent played well for months & only won today because the opposition went down to 9 men. We are the only team since the end of August not to score against Norwich and we have 3 tough games coming up before the month is out. No win in those 3 games could mean us being very close to the bottom 3.
And before you start abusing me like you usually do you might do well to read every other post on here, who virtually to a man think we played poorly & were very lucky to get 3 points.4 -
Think it came down to we are not used to having that much possession with jones ball and had no idea what the hell to do with it , but a wins a win and 3 more points to safety, onwards to derby COYR5

NJ recruited these players and coaches them.
These are relegation style performances, but we are blessed by having afew more points than others due to a "good start" (fortunate start eg Watford )
Well done to Dykes and Clarke who showed that they have played under decent coaches.,hope they can ignore everything NJ tells them.

Aside from other points made…I thought that Ramsey balls to Clarke repeatedly killed momentum today. Passing to his heels rather than slightly in front of him with lots of forward space slowed everything. Not only player to do so btw and we all have off days, just the one I can remember.3

The game reminded me of my dog walk this morning. Half way to the park, dog shapes to go turd and I realise i've not brought the poo bags. Fortunately he does a nice solid turd in one spot i can pick up with an empty mcdonalds cup lying in the gutter.

When I saw the line up, I wondered how much time the midfield spent on the training pitch.
I found out the answer pretty quickly.
Shame Ramsay has to make needless fouls and put us under pressure. Looks threatening when going forward but then no one goes with him so often plays ball backwards.
Clarke looked confident but what a game for Apter to come onto. They doubled up on TC after the goal and might have had the same problem with Apter on the other side.
Baffling at times but 3 points from that team sheet, brilliant.0 -

Just seen the NJ interview. Absolutely agree lucky not to be in League 2 and he has loads of credit for pushing us on.
But he should still acknowledge the fans win loose or draw.
I know we are not going to win every week, but I do think we should win by more than 1 goal against a nine man team.4 -

The definitive game of two halves.
I am at a loss to understand how we went in on level terms, given United’s almost total domination of the first half. I suppose the answer is Kaminsky - who made two very good saves - and their profligacy in front of goal. They did hit the post, although from 12 yards out, I’d expect their guy to have hit the target, even with a good few bodies in the way.
To say the two sending offs changed the game is a huge understatement. Nathan made a couple a smart half-time changes, with Lyndon Dykes coming on for the ineffective Kelman and TC for Bree, who had picked up a first half booking. Dykes introduced himself with a lovely knock down header from Gillespie’s long ball for Carey to lash home a fine volley.
TC proceeded to burn his full back on a regular basis but we couldn’t find the second killer goal. His pace and ability to take opponents out of the game doesn’t impress everyone on Charlton Life but it certainly impresses me and, most importantly, the man who matters, Nathan Jones.
Our inability to put the game definitively to bed induced some late nerves, as we’ve had so many setbacks recently, although in truth our goal was never put under any real threat in the second period.
An absolutely huge 3 points, which was particularly vital given the away wins for Pompey and Norwich. 32 points down and 18 to go.
A big shout out to Kaminsky, Lloyd Jones, Leaburn, TC and the two new lads, Dykes and Clarke. I was surprised that the latter lasted the full 90 minutes given his lack of game time and he showed some real quality on the ball.
Great to see Matty Godden on the pitch, although I’m not sure I’d have introduced him in the last minute for our 6ft 7 centre-forward when Sheffield Utd were loading the box !
Let’s hope that Harvey Knibbs’ injury isn’t as bad as it looks.
Just two further points: first, you’d have got long odds on our doing the double over Sheffield Utd back in pre-season; and, second, what an atrocious bit of play acting by Bamford, trying to get Ramsey in trouble and the ref to start evening up the red card count.
A perfect start to a tough run of league games. Hopefully we can add to the points total on Tuesday against Derby before the trips to Millwall and Leicester.

It is quite remarkable that we are level on points with Sheff United and only a point behind Southampton. Jones is massively in credit with what he has achieved in that regard.
However, if we continue getting progressively more and more negative, as we have in recent months, we will eventually get relegated.
Hopefully today was a wake up call for Nathan. Not all fans who attend the Valley are "die hards", a large section pay their money and expect to see some exciting football occasionally, or at least a fifteen yard pass placed accurately, rather than constantly behind the man.
Too many of our players seem to have adopted this negative mindset of turning backwards, or playing the easy ball rather than playing with a hint of ambition.
A change of mindset is required !

Huge win, couldn’t give a crap about the circumstances.
This was against a team who finished on 90 odd points last season and we’ve done the double. I’m sure the result may have been different had the sending offs not happened, but at the same time, they were two awful fouls, and on paper, the result should be different if both teams have 11 men on the pitch.We’re limited on the ball, but a really well organised and united team off it. 5 years since we were last in the division, about 17 years going backwards as a football club on the whole, save for a couple of seasons under Powell and a miraculous promotion under Bowyer, almost doing the unthinkable and staying up the following season
if we stay up, we’ve got all summer to debate how the likes of Gillesphey, Docherty etc aren’t able to cut it at this level. It’s clear the summer business wasn’t quite enough to make this a comfortable fight to stay up, but there’s a togetherness and a way of approaching this season that’s given us a fighting chance
to go down would be disastrous, as it stands we need to find another 18 odd points from 20 games. It’s a great position to be in and a massive achievement. Pompey and Norwich both won today as well, so and even better 3 points18 -
Sheffield United are a much better side than us with much better players. Looked like our aim, much like the Ipswich game (and other games where we clearly play better sides), was to stay in the game and then maybe try and steal a 1-0. We won that 3-0 and in this one thanks to Kaminski we stayed in it and Sheff U gifted us 3 points.
We took the lead minutes after (in game time) the second red and were realistically not threatened after. Yes it’d have been nice to kill the game off but we all know we lack creativity and Sheff U stuck 9 men behind the ball and defended relatively well given the situation.Our aim is to stay up. With the squad we have that would be a decent achievement. 3 big points on the way to trying to do that, regardless of how it was achieved.11 -
Firstly, who on here had us to do the double over the blades without conceding a goal, no I didn't think so. Playing Bree at left wing back was probably Nathan Jones saying to the board, 'look we need a left wing back', most of their best attacks came down that side and if I were Chris Wilder, I would have pointed out that right footed Bree and Gillesphey were to be got at. If we go to the Den without that position filled, hide behind the sofa. Positives, Kaminski, Lloyd Jones, Anderson, leaburn, Dykes, the return of Matt Godden and three points in this three game run. Negatives, vacancy in the left wing back position, no Bell or Edwards. You might think we didn't deserve it but at the end of the season, we will look back and thank our lucky stars for Sheff Utd taking Chris Wilders instructions too literally.6

I didn’t see the match. Was it that bad? I find it hard to believe that organisation and lack of approach/ plan is the problem.
All I can say is that if I were a neutral and saw the result of this match knowing that the away team played the whole second half with 9 men, I’d be saying that the home team must be shit.
Having seen what I have this season, it confirms to me not that we are overall shit, but that our attack is shit and our manager has the most killjoy approach possible.
Can anyone argue that with 11 against 9, they were the 'best version of themselves’?
I can’t bear anymore to watch us because of our turgid football. I’ll keep tracks on here and elsewhere, and hope NJ can do it but I don’t like his football. It’s like going out to eat at a Mexican restaurant and being served Doritos.6
