Poor first half performance and a careless stupid own Goal !
better second half, yes we could have got a point but we didn’t 👎👎👎
Another two defeats and the pressure will be massive on Jones and his Board !!!!
  • If you can only score one goal a game it makes things very difficult - and puts huge pressure on the defence not to concede.

Two big men up front clearly doesn't work. Hopefully Jones has learn his lesson and we see Leaburn or Dykes alongside Kelman on Saturday with the other and Godden on in the 60th and 75th mins roughly.

NJ has to own tonight’s debacle
The first half continued the gutless defeatist shit from Saturday
2 big blokes up front together but no long ball attacks nor crossing attempts just passive ticky tacky nonsense which most of our midfield and defenders aren't up to.  Muddled thinking at best.
Then 2nd half Fullah replaced Miles but was never anywhere near Dykes for the possible knockdowns -  if that's what was intended.
Carey was retained despite pathetic dead balls and his familiar lack of effort.  Ramsey looks like an imposter.

Weird to consider but they defended better when Lloyds Jones was replaced.

The goal came from one burst of individual effort, a small slice of luck and a singular combination.
That aside it was utterly toothless

Both goals in the 2 home games came from direct football with the ball at a player's feet who was running positively.  Both were wholly isolated episodes.  The rest was 180+ minutes of utter bilge.

Clueless pissing about by befuddled players, only a few of whom aren't actually good enoug, several of whom in the middle and at the back are just not doing what they ought to know they should be - the goals conceded owe much to lack of defensive application.  We've played 2 ordinary teams and barely laid a glove on either one.  And that's unacceptable

Just like to add something that I mentioned in the match thread. The pitch looked bloody awful, I thought it would have settled by now but it's starting to look Barren.

Yeah it looked terrible. Good question for the directors this evening.

16200+ according  to the club. Must be the lowest attendance yet in a league match this season.

Under Jones our best runs of form have come with a settled team. The constant chopping and changing at the moment - some of it enforced by injury - makes it clear that Jones doesn't know his best team. Some players need a run in the team to feel trusted and for their confidence to grow. I know bad performances mean players may get dropped, but I would prefer to see a settled team of the players we know can perform at this level.

Like others I am miffed by the disappearance of JRC, Apter and Docherty. While I don't think JRC will play like he did against Oxford every week, he showed enough to be given a longer run than he got; he was also purchased with the promise of versatility and yet I don't remember seeing him play more than a few minutes at RWB? I wonder if we may see him there as the season goes on.

I think Anderson has a role to play and wasn't as bad as some are making out, but he isn't ready to be starting at this level regularly.

Dykes appears very one dimensional and I don't think he's particularly good at that skill, anyway. Hopefully Fullah is trusted as the season progresses. We only need to be the fourth worst team in the league and I still think that is achievable. Crowd were a lot better last night and the effort shown by the players in the second half has hopefully shown them / Jones that we need to start games with that ambition and drive. We no longer have the defensive unit to sit back and soak up pressure like we did earlier in the year. But we DO have the attacking talent to scare teams. Let's give it a go!
he's the bloke you bring on with 20 mins left when you are 1-0 up and tell him to chase and harry everything, get in their faces and be a nuisance - but that's about it at the moment. His passing is awful, slow, tedious and sideways
  • Actually enjoyed the game/atmosphere more than Saturday. Not the points, of course.

I think winter midweek games are a hard ask, I'd rather we played more midweek games up to the start of November and suspended them till the start of March. I drive up from Canterbury, I could travel up by train, but waiting around for trains in the cold is not good, get one cancelled and it becomes battle to get home. The forecast was for heavy rain and they were not wrong, it was a difficult journey back, still at least on the way back my team gave me some wonderful moments to keep me warm ......Wankers !

Did anyone else hear Brownie on the comms yesterday talk about the "+/-4" calculation, apparently it's a well know thing within the football world, and is based on your budget status.
He said that we have the third lowest budget for the season, and by that calculation 17th would be a good finishing spot, I know it's just a theory, but would take that now..

Would bite you hand off for 21st this year, and would have taken that since the 1st August

  • I think Jones is doing a good a job as possible given his players, we buy league 1 players we should not be surprised to end up there

I drive up from Sittingbourne and when I can make midweek games I’ve needed to leave earlier and earlier each season. It’s quite a tight turnaround from work and if I have to get up particularly early, as I did today, I don’t go. I’m guessing the number of our fans who travel a distance has something to do with it, add in the end of January, the weather and the fact most people’s finances are running on fumes post Christmas and I’m not surprised attendance dropped. I don’t think it’s because people are fickle.

There was a lot more than that, looking at the North stand from the East stand it looked very full.  I agree with the problem of evening games in the winter (and it's cold), particularly if you'r on the train "will you get home". I'm in Ramsgate now and used to come on the train, but with going home via London Bridge the last down train from there was 22.43, miss that and your stuck !, even if you get it your not back until about 12.45am then its a 30 min walk home from the station for me.  Depending upon where you live, some regulars cant make evening games because of work, we don't all live near the Valley.  I've changed to coming on the Valley Express coach now, it waits until everyone is back on it, and gets back to Ramsgate at midnight, I stay on it after its done the last drop at Ramsgate Station because it goes past my house on the way back to its depot, it drops me opposite my house.

And it was on Sky which I am sure means quite a few don't bother. The space around me in the upper west was unbelievable......

Just watched a re-run of the 2019 Play-off final, and the Patrick Bauer last kick of the game winner, and bloody hell, we had some good players that day, cheered me up no end, oh for 50% of that passion now...🤦‍♂️

NJ seems to have developed a style of football called tiki-whacka. We play short, slow passes that allow the oppo to press, inevitably run out of options, and then whack an aimless ball forward. It's tiki-whacka.

At least in the second half we passed the ball quicker and showed we can play a bit. But so many first-half performances this season have this awful style. And worse, it doesn't seem to be doing anything for us.

Also, NJ's decisions feel random. Leaburn and Dykes, what was that about. Starting Berry for three games in a row.  Gillesphey playing no matter how many times he lets us down. Subbing Coventry for Kelman when we've finally got a foothold in the game. What is he doing? Only he knows.
    Tiki-whacka! Absolutely brilliant!

And sadly a very fair description of how we are playing.

I'm surprised we are third lowest. Presumed we were second after Sheffield Wednesday. I guess they're saying Oxford is lower than us?

    Agree with all you say.
For a number of reasons 3pm Kick offs on a Saturday will always be a much higher attendance than a night game.
Unfortunately 3pm on a Saturday is becoming a  rarity.

Few angles of TC’s goal here. Nice to see Dykes and Clarke were following it in too, that’s been missing for months. No surprise it was the two new signings doing it

Likewise,I come from Chatham,I have a booked space for saturday games but not for midweek,so really,at 82 years old dont want a mile walk there and back in the pissing rain. Also you can pretty much guarantee the A2 will be shut somewhere, meaning a really poor journey home especially if the game has been crap.
