After that performance we are quite possibly looking at a local Derby against Bromley next season & if we play like that I wouldn’t fancy our chances. Although I really want to keep backing Jones you do get to a point where you look for any signs of improvement in the quality of football but worryingly it’s just getting worse. If you can’t get yourself up for a local Derby against your fiercest local rivals then something is badly wrong. And we have reached a point where Jones is saying the same things time & time again. So is that the manager or the players? We had a couple of good spells in the game but I am not convinced that there is any conviction or belief left in the players. I wasn’t in love with the football when we were doing ok earlier in the season but you can accept it if the results are good. We are now struggling badly so it’s no surprise that the manager is coming under scrutiny. Unless things change quickly then this is destined to end in tears. Can NJ turn this round ? You have to say it’s not looking likely but I’ll hang in there as things can & do change very quickly in football. I do think the last chance saloon is rapidly appearing on the horizon though.1

There are rumours circulating that Jones has lost the dressing room.
Apparently he has fallen out with Docherty, Apter and possibly others.
Looking at today’s awful, awful performance it appeared that it could be true..
A number of players were simply going through the motions.
I have been watching Charlton since the late 1960’s, this was as bad a performance as I can remember.I don’t know where Jones goes from here, but after today the writing is on the wall and relegation is probably inevitable.9 -
"I am not one to apologise normally because I know most of the time, my team gives me everything. But what we put out today was embarassing. We were second best, we got bullied, we were outfought in every level and everything we did today...... I apologise to the fans, and today I have to because of the nature of defeat, today we were so far off."2121 said:Jones didn't take any accountability in the charlton v interview. He shouldn't have been, but who knows what's going on with the owners ? Maybe they don't want to spend on championship players but to sign a 21 year old who hasn't played a competitive game since March 2025 is criminal.DDOUBLEE said:And I'm not even having this bollocks that Chambers was supposedly our "first choice" to sign. No way.5 -
Basically our season begins at Leicester. We now need to grind out points with the odd win here and there. I don’t want Jones sacked but I do want him to recognise that if things don’t change then we’ll get relegated. It’s up to him to change them. I’m not sure he thinks we’re actually in big trouble. Problem is I’m not sure we have the players to make any changes in tactics bear fruit. Recruitment has been a massive disappointment.4

Reading all these comments and assuming that some rumours may be true, we are going down without a fight.
Any word from those in the know or close to inside information - Rich, Louis and a few others ?
Typical Charlton - after all the crap of the last 15 years, i thought we were on the way back.
We are not and the owners need to make a strong statement on Monday about how they will take the club forward, even if we go down this season.
Looks like Jones is on the way out.

Yeah but apart from the part where he apologises…!fenaddick said:

Waited a while to read the comments. Dreadful performance but then we’ve been dreadful for a while now. Jones did brilliantly grinding out results to get us up and for a bit this season all be it with some very lucky wins, but I have no faith in him building a squad to compete at this level. I just don’t think he has the ability to play any other way and it’s horrible to watch especially when it’s not working. We need some quality players across the pitch. Amazingly it’s still possible to stay up but either way we will need a change next season.

Does he give you confidence that we will at least fight to stay up, as a club?se9addick said:

I am less convinced after the tripe the team has served up for the last 15 games and the lack of any strategy in the transfer window.

I'm a firm believer that a side is a mirror image of the coach managing it.
This side look full out of ideas, make inexplicable rash decisions and resemble more a team desperately nibbling white tape off their fingertips!!3 -
Utter disgrace
Leaburns been in great form and now he’s dropped for dykes who barely touched the ball
is TC THAT much better than Apter that apter has been ignored for months
what in gods name is Anderson doing on the pitch at the start whilst Coventry is on the bench13 -
The only positive from today was that we won't be playing them again and it's all over for another year. The troubling thing is that the trajectory of each side suggests we might not be playing them next year at all.
It's like we start every season we're in the same division with a 6 point penalty.
I can take poor performances, jeez we've all seen enough of those, but the seeming lack of application in the 2nd half particularly was unacceptable, even for, what must be, the most one sided derby on the country!5 -

Regardless of whether Jones has ‘lost the dressing room’ which I don’t buy. The players who trotted out at The Den are professionals and should put in more of a shift than that pathetic second half display, against our local rivals. That’s on them not Jones. They gave up.10

Ok, so it's probably worth trying to put a few things to bed.
One: Apter has had a major falling out with the Manager, well he named him on the bench so they must have kissed and made up.
Two ; Get rid of the manager, we have had experience of this boards choice of Manager and I don't particularly want another Appleton and I get it that Nathan Jones is a bit marmite but I don't think changing the manager will help.
Three : There might be a very good reason why Docherty is not involved, it might even be personal, but one thing Nathan Jones is good at is 'need to know situations' and at the moment, we don't need to know.
Four : Player acquisition in the summer, it seems to me that we tried to buy the best of the rest in div one, some have worked some haven't, but we finished the season late and most the championship players would have found clubs by the time we started looking, which is why we looked at a club who were looking to off load contracts that they couldn't possibly afford to pay after they were relegated, Luton Town, also it could be argued that we better with Amari Bell and Burke than without them.
Summing up, I know we are pissed off but it isn't the first time I've seen Charlton piss their pants at Millwall, six days left of the window, the board can be under no illusions now, get behind the team, and those players need to understand, they will get our backing when they earn it, they certainly didn't earn it today, so they owe us.13 -
Well Oxford managed it. Not going to let that shower today off easily. Must win - go out there and show some bollocks and pride.blackpool72 said:I'm still not in the Nathan Jones out brigade
But fuck me when I got on the train at South Bermondsey pretty much the whole carriage seemed to want him out.
I don't expect to get a result at Leicester next week, but if we don't start playing better and picking up points soon I can see the atmosphere at the valley becoming quite toxic9 -
Absolutely not, we’re definitely getting relegated.BigDiddy said:

I highly doubt we’ll give Leicester as good a game as Oxford have today. That’s a direct comparison.ValleyGary said:Oxford winning as well, we are in deep deep shit0 -

Even if we were to survive this season which at the moment look doubtful, i have major concerns whether our owners and backers understand what it takes to run a successful championship club.ShootersHillGuru said:Basically our season begins at Leicester. They either haven't backed Jones up financially or the recruitment team at Charlton haven't got the foggiest. I suspect a bit of both.6 -
What has happened to Ramsey since our home game against Millwall? He is a shadow of the previous player.
We have no stable defence which is the main issue. Desperately need Bell back.
Edwards was also a key player on the left and his goose is cooked.
Why do we start a shit team including Anderson and try to hold on hoping that when reinforcements can come on we are still in it. The tactics confuse me.
Need to find a way.

Agreed. If they were not trying, there is always the hope that if they did start trying they could improve. But if this is their "best version of themselves" then there is no way out.SDAddick said:

Agreed, except that we need all three. I doubt the owners would give more money to NJ to waste. I wouldn't, even if I had billions to play with.Callumcafc said:The talk is of changing the manager - the only viable alternative to Jones right now is Gary Rowett. We were awful today but can’t be too harsh on some of the players who are simply not Championship standard.8

It’s not a time to wind up fans with your pathetic comments, we should have been 3 down at HT.RonnieMoore said:Think it’s a harsh result we were in that for long periods .. first goal clear offside , our goal perfectly good goal and suddenly we got one goal lead to defend … but Jones got it wrong from the start and got it wrong at HT .. …. Azeez the difference Millwall got him we got Campbell that’s the difference when you have someone who can create and cross the ball … we got three home games now he got to get it right no more fav like Campbell and Anderson .. time for Apter time for Kelman and Godden up top .. time to change the system .All you want is the ref to make the right decsions today if we had VAR. we would have been leading 0-1 heading into last 10 mins different game … Coventry at home Pompey away poor decsions by the ref cost us but they get away with it
They outclassed us all over the pitch and should have won by more.Just smell the coffee and do one.1
