Notionally, I think of us as being 38th in the Championship a little over a year ago after the Crawley loss.

We’re currently 18th with a game in hand over many.

Survival this year even in goal difference will be incredible.

15-19 points needed from 17 games to survive.

    In a word  ‘doable’

Great away support. I turned the volume down at one point here in NZ and could still hear our support wafting in from the ocean.

No point commenting on the game itself as it's been well covered already today, but it's certainly left me on a big high.

Was at the game today and travelled solo, actually stayed in Leicester the night before at the Premier Inn to spare me an early start this morning, it was good already seeing a few Addicks having breakfast in the morning.

I wanted to comment on just how good our atmosphere was today though, I was getting texts from friends watching on the TV and they said we sounded so good all game, and it was really felt inside the stadium too. Leicester were definitely shell shocked and it was silent from the home fans pretty much all game today, yet our away end certainly made it feel like we were playing at home.

I've been feeling a bit of football fatigue lately and the mental health has been taking a battering, but today gave everything such a huge recharge and reminded me why we go through the lows, because the highs make it worth it sometimes.

Also want to say a quick thanks to the lads I ended up chatting to for the whole game in row BB, don't know if they'll see it on here but it made me totally forget I was by myself and really appreciated the company for it. Will always be thankful for having the Charlton family in my life.

    Superb post ❤️

Few beers in Greenwich and finally home.

Brilliant day. Why can’t all away games be that good!
You and everyone who witnessed that shit show last week deserve it.  Well pleased for you all

It seems like a bit of a curbs type of reaction to a bad defeat today, make it hard to be beaten take a point at the very least to stop the rot. Something Curbs used to do very well, wonder if Nathan ever talks to Curbs about things?, possibly not as he does things his way I guess🤷🏻‍♂️

Weird one for me, obviously happy with the win and light years away from the surrender last week but......

First things first, I like many others couldn't fathom the starting line up and was pretty disappointed that we seemed to be going ultra defensive against a team who have really been struggling - my big fear was that the line up was handing them the momentum.

What I hadn't factored in was quite how poor Leicester would be and just how thick the air of lethargy would be around the stadium. It felt very familiar in some respects (to the not so distant past) - a fan base utterly disillusioned and who didn't really seem to care about what was being served up.

Agree with others that we looked far better balanced with two players at wing back who were relatively comfortable there. Bell coming in for Gillesphy is also going to massively improve us everytime it happens.

My biggest bug bear in recent weeks has been midfield, and whist it at least functioned today, and in some aspects performed well, it's still the week loink for me. Coady did a good job and it was nice to see someone out there out there constantly talking, cajoling and adding a sense of calm. Docherty was decent as well, but I won't be swayed from the fact that our next signing should be someone to play that role, we need an upgrade. His commitment can;t be questioned, but at times his brain doesn't match his commitment and for me, he is nowhere near vocal enough to be captain.

If we have a couple more incoming transfer cards to play, I really hope one is a mobile, physical central midfielder.

I was really surprised that Jones went for Dykes and Leaburn again today - it was a disaster against Sheff Utd. Much better today and Leaburn was again a menance while he was on the pitch.

The hope now has to be that Chambers has done 45 and 65 minutes and he can now step up to 90. Not so sure that will come straight away though. He looked shattered when he went off and had been struggling physically for about 5 mins.

I really like Clarke, TBH I am surprised Ipswich let him go out on loan. He is an upgrade on Bree and and all round better player. I really hope we would be in with a shout of signing him if he is available in the summer.

If Leaburn is now injured for any period of time I'd like to see Godden and Dykes as a partnership. Both are intelligent players and there is definitely a chance of decent partnership forming there.

The big concern for me was how badly we wobbled when Leicester got on the front foot for the first 15 minutes of the second half. We looked ragged and players were getting dragged out of position. We became too easy to play through again.

Shipping 21 shots against 10 men isn't great either.

Regardless of any of the above, given the other results today it is a big 3 points. Especially with various teams down there starting to show some form.

We have to follow it up with a consistent set of positive results in the next 3 hoime games. I worry that the defensive set up shown today will cause us problems at home and we will struggle to break teams down. Unfortunately, if as we've seen if we try to be expansive at home teams cut through us too easily.

I think it's fair to say the next few ganes are unlikely to be pretty.
Will you care if we put 6/7 points on the board?

The point you make of we have to follow up today with a consistent set of positive results. I think you forget where we are…? We do not have any god given right to expect a run of results. This league is as crazy and topsy turvy as it’s ever been. We are down near the bottom for a reason but so are all the other teams around us.

This isn’t a dig at you personally Clem, I really think we need to drop the snobbery as a fan base.

The only thing that matters now is the points and today was job done in that sense, and hopefully gives us an encouraging base to attack these crunch home games.

I thought today had echoes of two recent games - Blackburn, where we were hugely disappointed to lose a two goal lead to a very poor team, and Sheffield United in the sense that we were playing with an advantage of players. I think today’s display showed an element of progression from those two performances - Leicester may be in disarray, but they still possess multimillion pound talent, and Fatawu killed us in the home game we dominated with one exceptional piece of quality, and our game management was exceptional compared with the unravelling at Blackburn. We got lucky with the pen, but the fact that Bell got roasted for the first time this season and conceded a pen highlights the ‘moment of quality’ point.

From the Sheff Utd game, I think we learnt not to panic, to keep the ball moving and have faith that the probing would bring chances, which it did. One thing we were unable to do against Sheff Utd, and where the frustration came from, was that we were trying to move them around but just couldn’t. The lack of a LWB really hampered that plan, but I think it was telling today that we had options out wide either side and that the two assists came from our wing backs as we worked the ball across and out to them and they delivered crosses into space. Really good.

One big issue from today could be Leaburn being injured - he has grown into his role superbly throughout this season and had some tough days along the way. Maybe we were lucky with them having a player sent off, but his excellent play led to that incident and, glass half full, he would probably have scored anyway. Excellent in the build up for the second as well - exactly what you want. It would be a big blow to us and the way we play if he is out, and that would bring with it a number of discussion points on Mbick. Firstly, if Miles is out would we recall Mbick? Secondly, would Mbick be as good as Miles in that role in the Championship now (almost certainly not). Do we sell Mbick but have him back on loan if Miles is out? All very tight working to a Monday night deadline from here.

Elsewhere, excellent from Doc today. Fantastic engine, just so frustrating on the ball sometimes. Coady very composed, which is exactly why we brought him in, and having Bell back is transformative for this team. Dykes’ goal was excellent - great cross and tidy finish…exactly the kind of goal you’d pick up on if another team scored it.

Interested to see what we do in the market over the next two days as we head into some massive fixtures now. I think we need to aim for a minimum of 5 points from the three home games. 2 wins and a defeat, by that logic, wouldn’t be the end of the world. Well done to Nathan and the boys today, COYR

Like others I looked at that starting line up and thought, how the hell are you doubling down on the ultra defensive set up after the last two results, particularly putting a player who hasn’t played since September as a holding midfielder, when to the best of my knowledge, he’s only ever played CB.

credit where it’s due, it worked.  In all honesty, after last week’s disgrace, I was seething and and quite frankly they owed us a win, nothing else would’ve sufficed.  I still have big doubts after last week, and it still seems a bit random and chaotic with the line up (Docherty just walking back in to the starting XI), but I guess the business thus far this window seems to suggests action and trying to change things.  As odd as it seems from the outside looking in to let 2 players you paid money for go on loan, perhaps it’s a sign of maturity to see, it’s not working and we needed to do something.

the next three games are key.  We need minimum 6pts out of 9, and the emphasis will be on us to win the games.  As much as today was efficient and earned, we’ve still benefited from a player being sent off, just like the Sheff Utd game and despite Leicester sacking Cifuentes last week, they are a mess of a club.  We’ve now got 3 games against steadier opposition on home turf, where we can set up like we did today by all means, but we aren’t/shouldn’t be trying to nick a point/not get beat.  I’m not saying that was the intention today, merely pointing out it will be on us to break QPR, Stoke and Pompey down.

Feb will define our season, it’s as simple as that.  6pts out the next 9 and we’re in a very good position.  Hoping to evoke memories of Jackson’s last minute winner next week
He was a midfielder at the start of his career. Played there for Sheffield Utd, Wolves and Huddersfield. I think it was only when Wolves went to a back 3 that he started consistently playing as a centre back. He wore the number 10 shirt at Huddersfield!

I didn't realize how many time Coady had played as a defensive midfielder in his earlier career as he always seemed to play CB when I watched him play. Plus I believe all his 10 England caps were at CB.

It was a gamble to play him in front of Ramsey, Jones and Bell today as no way could he be match fit but with the early red card and the dangerous De Cordova Reid being sacrificed Conor had an easier game to make his debut in than was expected. If it was 11 v 11 than he could've come under pressure but once again a red card has helped secured 3 points for CAFC.

After watching Derby play last night and the way they pass and move possibly I will never see CAFC play like that under Jones but i/we can never knock Nathan's dedication to Charlton since he arrived and the time he spends working and his sleep overs at Sparrows lane.

I just hope we can continue to evolve as a football team with the ability to pass the ball better and the poster who said he didn't notice Conor Coventry, I can assure him that was when we got some control back and passed the ball to each other and took the sting out of Leicester's comeback which should've seen them go 1-2 from the penalty spot.
  • That team had a point to prove today
  • Great day out. Couldn’t work out how we were going to line up from the team sheet, but Coady in midfield just worked today. He was talking and organising and had forward passes. Perhaps ran out of gas a little before the sub.

Thought Leaburn was the standout in the first half, caused chaos and brought players up the pitch and helped contribute in the build up to the Dykes goal - who took it well. Leicester started to move the ball better in the early period of second half, but we kept organised and resolute for the most part and they faded away like their fans.

Chambers also caught the eye, stretched Leicester at the back, has great control, and defensively strong. Carey does what Carey does, and I thought Clarke managed to get down the right side really well and covered when needed. Doc ran himself into the ground, Jones a mountain at the back, and Ramsey and Bell solid too (apart from the pen). Great to see options off the bench too. I better mention Kaminski who was solid and secure throughout.

Non stop singing, support, and a bit of a bounce to send us home happy with 3 big points. Let’s go!!

Mildly concerned by Doc's hand position here though:
I've been out walking all day so it may have been mentioned already but ........... Call for Kenneth Williams

”2-0 loss to Charlton at home is about as bad as it gets in terms of one off results I am afraid

The performance was an improvement and the sending off was a massive problem I do admit, but then I say again, Charlton, at home, not exactly the most testing fixture on the fixtures list is it, and we have nothing to show for it.”

    Cheeky gits -

I still remember sending them down years ago -

I think JJ dominated on the left wing.

    2-0 I think.

Leicester are a shit team but they’re full of very, very good individuals capable of a moment or two of brilliance that can make all the difference. Like when they beat us at the Valley. Even though today was against ten men for the bulk of the match, they were dangerous because of their individual talent, but we managed the threats. We won because we’re a team. No shame in that.

Also, it’s a bit of a pattern now. If we keep getting oppos sent off, I’ll take it!

I couldn't find one post on their post match thread that gave us any credit. Feels like they're in a complete malaise and are expecting to lose every week and coupled with the points deduction go down.

I couldn't watch the match today. Apart from the scoreline, everything I know about it has come from this thread. I've got to say, @LoOkOuT's opening post reads like a proper pot boiler, several of the other posts are crackers too. So, well done to the team for carving out what sounds like a well deserved victory, and well done to everyone here for your enthusiasm.

So you can guarantee that every game from now on will see the opposition reduced 9 or 10 Mem. Because that is what it has required for Charlton to win their last two games.  It is reasonable for fans to be worried about our current form of the last  three months.
Of course  the reds have helped, but don’t forget two out of those three red cards were won through our players being aggressive, winning the ball, and using their bodies well to shield it. That’s what Jones preaches. That’s coaching from Jones.

Against 9 men we win 1:0
    10 men 2:0.
    11 men...? (Millwall different species)

The post-match interview truly highlighted Nathan's deep connection to Charlton. In over 60 years of supporting the Addicks, I have never seen a manager so loyal and committed to the cause. His passion for the club was evident to everyone.
It makes one wonder who would want to be a football manager, especially given the initial derision and skepticism regarding the starting lineup. However in Nathan I for one certainly trust
I liked the new additions. I’m gonna call them the”C” men!

The Championship is a better place with Charlton and Jones in it.

    Terrific interview from NJ.
