I was just thinking that watching football at home on TV is becoming less and less like the real thing. Maybe this would explain why 50,000 would pay to watch the second leg of an (almost) dead league cup semi-final even though the game is completely free on prime time ITV?
If I can't get to a game, I prefer to pay a tenner for Charlton TV rather than watch SKY.
It's mainly for the completely biased commentary, of course, but I actually quite like the way nothing much happens at half time - it seems more authentic somehow! Pity they can't switch to the stadium audio and show the cross bar challenge!2 -
I absolutely detest adverts. I literally can’t watch them or hear them. I never really watch much in commercial TV. Mainly because it’s mostly shit watched by thick bastards unless it’s Channel 4 in general.I also have a massive problem with anyone banging on about hating the BBC and not paying their licence. It’s an absolute bargain compared with the amount we pay for shit companies advertising spend. Also what little commercial shit I am exposed to I have noticed that the advertising revenue must have fallen off a cliff. As every ITV programme has an advert enticing you to win money or a holiday by calling a number or writing to some shithole in Derby. And the worst offenders are Global Radio which owns every commercial channel and every salesperson on there is literally there to drum up phone calls from idiots as it’s a massive revenue stream for them. I call them sales people because they’re not DJs any more. Every station all day bangs on about winning money and how you do it and the rest of the dross they play is incidental.Glad I got that off my chest.As for adverts mid game. It doesn’t surprise me when you combine the shit tip that’s America coupled with greedy/needy commercial execs.I’ll probably watch as you have to. But only really enjoy it on the BBC.
As my dad used to say. ITV killed Tony Hancock and fucked Morecambe and Wise. I mean other than Minder and very few others what has it ever produced. Then look at the class the BBC has given us following its Reithian principles.1 -
