Wing backs that are actual wing backs have changed this team totally.

Coady quietly going about his work and shoring up that area in front of the defence.

    Proper team again. Lovely
Whilst I know what you mean, it's fair to say he's not quietly going about his business. I sit at the back of the West Upper and I could hear him keeping up a running commentary throughout the game. He's been an absolute revelation in every aspect.
Coady is our modern-day, midfield version of Paul Miller. Not the best, not at all quick, moderate/ok in the air but hugely experienced and totally unfazed by opposition/circumstances. He's a player that can rise above the situation and keep others at it. Not every club has players like that.
Docherty is playing much better with Coady alongside him rather than Coventry.
I've nothing against Coventry but him and Docherty as a partnership simply doesn't work imo.
Our midfield gets completely overrun with that pairing.
They were mostly fine earlier in the season when we had a settled defense and better balance.

Clarke already knew it was in!

He went a little early with his celebrations for my liking! One slightly loose touch and the. A brilliant bit of control later and it’s in!

    Love it!
  • We sure that Clarke wasn't using the peace and quiet to do a quick rendition of YMCA?

NJ's reaction was a bit ridiculous though. It was hardly unusual abuse, or anything unacceptable.

Quite bizarre to shout at the away fans, then virtually storm off the pitch, instead of walking slowly around the pitch with the players to celebrate the victory.
    No different to other managers!

He actually had his arms up aghast as he thought Dykes was offside.
Can you be offside from a Goal Kick?
  • Really pleased for Campbell after I gave him a lot of stick previously for having No End Product. I'd like to see him play central much more because on the wing he doesn't do much. #

As for Nathan Jones telling Stoke fans to F...CK Off and then squaring up to Shawcross I absolutely love it. MY FAVOURITE CHARLTON MANAGER by a country mile.

Can’t be offside from a goal kick mate
Thankyou for clarifying this for anyone who didn't know this, it would be embarassing to claim there was an obvious offside missed by the officials leading up to the goal!

A big 3 points though it looked once again our failure to take our chances in that first 15 minutes last night was going to cost us until the introduction of Campbell.

Just under 15,000 given out as the attendance. 1100 Stoke plus our 12500 season ticket holders meant a poor walk up last night on match day sales.

3 home games in a row goes to show that people have not got it

A lot of revenue lost last night with the fixture being moved from a Saturday.

When was the last time we had a Wednesday night game ? That would have added to the usually sparse attendances - same st all clubs coz of sky and dodgy sticks- as people probably have other regular thingd  planned for Wednesday nights - out football was cancelled as half the team r Charlton but a lot of other things can’t be do easily dropped

Inspired by Golfie, I'm going to point out a negative:
When are we going to learn to see out a game without looking quite wobbly? The last ten minutes was hoof-it-anywhere territory, and the ball kept coming back to us. Is this something they could work on? A bit of controlled posession would be a wonderful thing.

Not seen it mentioned on here tonight.......the ref.

I thought he had a great game - let lots of little things go & the game was better for it. No stop start for little fouls or pushes and played on when other refs would have blown. One of the best I've seen for some time.

Apart for the silly yellow cards at corners - wtf was that all about ?? A little pushing & shoving and suddenly 2 players get booked. Not once but twice he did it. Weird.

But I'd have him again over many others.
Thought he was good too. A lot of challenges that 90% of refs would give a foul and he didn’t, which made the game better to watch but the most important thing was he was consistent about it all game and barely gave any soft ones

Played into our hands too as our backline bullied their much smaller front players
He got quite a bit wrong at corners though - booking our players just for trying to stand their ground despite being yanked and pulled all over the place

I see what you mean but I didn’t feel nervy at all. It would be great to kill time with the ball but we were so solid defensively that Stoke couldn’t really create anything. With Dykes and TC up front we had 2 strikers willing to defend and Carey was still full of bags of energy, until Coventry replaced him and we used Doc’s energy instead. I thought we looked so comfortable

Anyone saying we will easily stay up is having a laugh. Each win is proving to be really hard work.

The January signings are proving to be a huge upgrade. Well done to Jones and the backroom team.

Hoping we see Dykes and Clarke next season (wasting our time dreaming of Chambers signing).

How much do you think Liverpool would want for Chambers.....£5m ?? more  ??
I reckon he is a prem player soon Golfie? One more season at this level, maybe on loan with us, but forget buying him. 20 mill plus!
Apart from that it’s well known that if Charlton spend money on you, u instantly turn shit so leave the poor kid be for now

Would it be fair to say that a lot of teams get nervy holding on to a lead with 10 mins to go?

We are not the only side who default to basics with a few minutes left. most do unless they're streets ahead in terms of ability

A turning point for us last night was Lawal getting injured and going off, meant they had to shuffle the pack, until then he was giving our left side a bit of trouble, also Thomas going off in the 2nd half gave us less to think about as he’d put in a few low crosses begging to be put away.

Couldn’t believe how quick Lawal was. Him going off definitely helped us & hope he’s available for them in their upcoming league matches against Leicester & Oxford!
  • Three clean sheets in a row since that Millwall hammering is brilliant to be fair, I think Coady is instrumental as well as Clarke & Chambers fitting in well, is it too early to say that I’d want to keep all of them in our team beyond next season
Agree but we might get Chambers on a year long loan but he will be way above us beyond that. Prem level in a year or two?

Not sure if I'm honest, but I expect the better teams manage it better than we do at times.

Partly agree, but they did send at least one cross that whizzed through our six yard box and just required a touch.
I think we might have been a bit knackered, and Stoke brought on five subs to our two. Fresh legs perhaps made a difference.
    Massive win though!!

Hmmm, very reminiscent of one of my girlfriends grandkids. If the lad in the vid wasn't wearing glasses could have sworn it was him.
Blimey ONE of your girlfriends grandkids..........
Are you Wayne Rooney in disguise?
girlfriends’ or girlfriend’s?  Who says apostrophes don’t matter?
In the interests of clarity, the apostrophe should have been placed before the "s" in this case. Loads of the bleeders n'all

I certainly hope we go for that, and it might be feasible. People forget we had Josh Cullen for two full seasons, that’s as long as many young players on their way up stay even on permanent contracts. Thierry Small for example.

So what about JRS last night? I loved him when he was here, and was dreading him and Thomas last night . And I was glad to see the back of him because we know it only takes an instant, as when he hit the bar early on.

However I doubted he was a NJ player and last night confirmed it. Brownie had a right go at him because off the ball he was very casual. Should have got on the end of one of Thomas’ low crosses in the 2nd half. But as Greg said, his career has been so messy since his spell with us, he needs a good home. The Nigels have squandered his talent.

    3 Games
    7 points
    3 goals
    0 goals conceded

    Bell , Jones , Ramsey - Impenetrable
Chambers - intelligent footballer / getting stronger
Dykes - committed and very strong !!

Not the most sophisticated…. But deffo effective. And a good foundation for improvement

Lawal was excellent, I hadn't realised he was Irish, as surprisingly he doesn't have any full caps yet. Him and JRS were a great combination, and JRS was much less effective once Lawal went off.

Robins was furious at his team for not attacking the box more, calling them "bone idle" in an interview. Clarke was excellent, but twice Thomas skinned him and put in 2 beautiful left footed crosses which were begging for a tap in, but nobody was there.

Coming off the loan with us he was red hot and looked poised to really go places but it never really happened. Its a shame really as he has buckets of talent.
  • As mentioned, all the new boys have made us look a very solid team. Dykes work rate made me feel tired just watching him  ! Lloyd Jones brilliant as usual. Clarke reminds me of Danny Mills in the way he plays, or maybe that’s just me thinking that ! Pleased for Campbell in scoring.  Contrary to what some believe, there is definitely a player in there. I think he needs a few sessions with either a shrink or a hypnotist to make him have a bit of self belief. Disappointed with the size of crowd. No way 14,000 there. More like 9 or 10,000 at a push. Looked more like the crowds we were getting in Div One. Great backing though by all that were there.
