    Huge point-

Wba is everything - draw or win and we are genuinely looking like survivors.

Watched with mate in Southampton end, he said our support was as good as any away fans they’ve had there this season. Felt so proud of our team and fans today
Did our support give it back re NJ at the end of the game after our hard fought point ? (What a shame we couldn't have grabbed a winner  :#)

    PWR.

    At the game.

Now, I don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer but I now remember why I don't go to away games anymore.

Yes the lads did great & scrapped bloody well for a point......but fuck me that ain't football as I know it. Spent most of the game camped in our half & only looked like scoring for 10 mins after we equalised. Then we retreated back in our shells & looked to take a point.

I will post more later but I just hope we don't take that mindset into the West Brom match. They are fragile & we need to be on the front foot from the off. Give their fans something to be fearful of.....not something to cheer.

Sonny Carey is the one player in this team
who you actually look forward to watching playing.

Great summer signing amongst some absolute shockers.

    Keep going my son(ny)!!
    You're obviously not married

For 5 minutes after they scored it felt like we were going to capitulate.

Fair play to them for finding a way back into it.

Saints wobbled a bit after the equaliser and a shame that we don’t have the quality to exploit moments like that.

A very good point, but makes the utter guff served up on Tuesday all the more frustrating when you see a team prepared to really fight to hang on to what they have.

I think you have to accepted that it is the only way they can play, if the attempt to be an attacking out fit they get cut apart and are wide open.

West Brom aren't as good as Southampton and don't play the same way, trying to go toe to toe today would have been suicidal but West Brom are there for the taking. I'd be both surprised and disappointed if we didn't take a more attacking approach next time (relatively speaking of course.)
So were Portsmouth according to many on here, let them stick to what they can cope with.

I think that some understanding of the quality that we faced today may paint a better picture. Defending deep is sometimes not a plan but is the result of the the way a team plays in front of you. Saints look to find the gaps, if you leave those gaps open they will find them and finish. That said, their best moves came down our right and Ramsay and Sichenje had their work cut out against Charles and Scienza. They did get one moment and a great header by Stewart gave them the lead. What was pleasing, was that we kept playing, Dykes was harshly adjudged to have handled before finishing in the bottom corner, linesman didn't flag so I was the ref's decision. We kept playing and Miles was getting amongst them, and we move it well across the box and Carey scores. I wanted four points out these three games and this was a game that I hadn't included in that total. Keep picking up points and it puts more pressure on the teams below us, if we do not lose at West Brom, we will see it as a point or points gained and West Brom will see it as points lost if they don't win, it's simply a case of making Charlton difficult to catch.

Before Portsmouth we'd actually been in decent form, today we were up against a demonstrably better side and got something by effort and fight. While the Pompey game was bad, it's actually quite an aberration in hhe big picture which will hopefully be proven in the next game.

A good point. Well done lads.  Especially Collins - thought this was a really tough match to make your debut and I thought he was excellent, if a little raw.

As an aside, I just looked at the stats on Fotmob and noticed we had an XG of 0.85 which I guess sounds about right, but Southampton only had an XG of 1.05, which really doesn’t.
Now, you could argue that given the scoreline, this was an accurate analysis, but I can’t help but be surprised that, despite being utterly dominated for most of the match, we pretty much matched them, not only in actual goals, but in expected goals too.
I’m not entirely convinced by how useful XG is - I suppose it does give indications of ruthlessness and goalthreat etc, but sometimes, to me at least, it just doesn’t ring true or feel representative of a game.
What is wrong with XG is the terminology. Statistics are objective whereas expectations are subjective. It should be named differently.

    Brilliant Point!

    Worked Hard & Fought Hard.

    Jones & Bell were Superb.

    Campbell worked tirelessly.

Leaburn was back to the form he’d showed before his injury against Leicester.

The only disappointment for me was that cameo from Kelman, as he looked well of the pace.
I would conclude that he’s realised he plays in a hoofball team and has lost motivation to get into positions in which he’ll never receive the ball at his feet.

    Pleased with the result.

How was that not a red for a head butt?

    Good goal.

That doesn’t explain his decision making every team he did have the ball at his feet today, he looked scared to do anything with it

    That makes no sense.

Besides, what relevance has beating Man City or getting to a semi-final got to today’s match? NJ is so full of shit.

The wives' of all Charlton Lifers let out a huge collective sigh of relief as Sonny Carey took a ball to the knackers late on.

Just wanted the highlights and I can see why Southampton's xG was so low - they had a lot of the ball, but we restricted them to some very low-percentage chances.

He’s referencing his time as manager at Southampton where he beat Man City and got them to the Carabao semi as a dig at them.

It is a weird one but it’s wound up all the right people and he knows it.
