    Well said, and whilst I am not enjoying Jones' style, now is definitely not the time to question it. Would be nice to see us be a little more assertive and show a bit more quality next season.

    A great point to come from behind and with Lloyd going down. A dire performance but a point so I’m happy. Leicester haven’t made up any points on us either. 

    Lloyd could do with a few weeks out but he isn’t the type to do that. He really shouldn’t have been playing for a number of weeks now

    They were late getting to the ground and I think they had to walk the final part of the journey.

    The team bus stuck in traffic. The players had to walk to the ground, and arrived half an hour late.

    Vital point but a concerning performance. 

    We seem to be playing with a hangover from the difficult winter period when we were battered by injuries.

    For a large chunk at the beginning of the season we were ultra aggressive in and out of possession. In particular, we pressed hard and that meant (a) we often won the ball high and with the defense in disarray, and (b) we had players high up and spread evenly to win second balls. We also (c) attacked well down the wings, using the switch to a 4-5-1 in possession that we played last season. Almost all of our goals came from one of those three situations (or from set pieces which we usually won from those situations). 

    Injuries impacted our our defensive solidity and our ability to play our usual style. We also got destroyed in the press by quality opposition, Southampton being the worst example. 

    The response has been to abandon the press and to play basically a flat back five, with apparently limited licence to get forward on the wings - multiple times tonight when we did spread the ball wide the wingback/winger turned around rather than risk losing possession and leaving gaps behind. 

    It makes sense to set up like that against Southampton away and we got a great draw. But when it isn't an obvious case of defend a point at all costs, we need to go back to what made us a viable attacking threat for so much of the season. The fact that we aren't, and the way the team is set up and playing overall, seems to show a real lack of confidence still after all the negative results we had in that winter period

    Like a lot on here , I’ll take the result & fingers crossed we’ve got enough to stay up , but there is no argument that we are truly hard to watch. I’ve been watching Charlton teams since 1966 & for the most part, with a few exceptions we have played good football. 
    So I know some say the important thing is the final result & that is true . But, unless we evolve next season, I can see a situation where crowds are lower.unless we are pushing for promotion. So the question is, can Nathan be the man who is going to make the team evolve & play more entertaining football, or is his philosophy just it’s the result that counts ? Of course we know the answer to that. Bad results lead to managers getting the sack. If it transpires that we are hovering mid table will supporters question if they can accept his brand of football though ?   I suppose it depends if you’re a diehard supporter or someone who just wants to be entertained. I’ll be honest, at 72 years of age, I will still get my season ticket, but it might be, with Sky coverage, it  will be easier to accept football that is hard to watch on TV sometimes , rather than make the effort to go. That hasn’t happened to me yet by the way but if the quality doesn’t improve I can see the temptation.

    In all fairness I think that’s a good, honest interview from NJ afterwards. He knows that wasn’t good or pretty, but we got a point (after what sounded like some transport-related disruption) and we move on. The fact we got a point when we were so dreadful and West Brom played well and still couldn’t beat us is, now the dust has settled, the massive takeaway from tonight. The only slight concern now is they appoint an impressive manager like Blackburn and Leicester have

    Read a few on the NJ thread say we burgled a point tonight. I certainly didn’t see it like that. We were poor but they were not much better. Can’t remember Kaminski making a save second half and not more than one effort on target from them. Not as if we were over run. Burgling a point is what Leicester did at The Valley earlier this season.

    Hey what ????? That is just awful, I can't imagine how they must of felt having to walk a few hundred yards to the ground & let's not forget they then had to play a game of football !!! I hope they really get the help that they desperately need after such an ordeal.

Assuming Cardiff & Lincoln get promoted (no idea who will go up via the play offs) then I expect Lincoln's will be worse but Cardiff I imagine will be a lot better than ours & would be looking at mid table (like Stoke or Swaneea). 

    Unless we take it seriously next season then I don't expect it to be much different to this season. And I wouldn't think too many would accept another season of hoofball with no desire to win a game of football  
    It’s this naivety and moaning which I think winds some people up. The first season after promotion is always the toughest as you have to upgrade most of the squad, all on a low budget. Next season we don’t have to upgrade the whole squad, while a lot of L1 players haven’t made the step up, there’s a backbone of a squad there that can compete, adding four or five quality players will improve us further, but it’s going to be small improvements every season. If you’re not happy with the owners and them wanting the club to be run in a sustainable way then please write them a letter rather than clogging up this forum with your moaning.
    I think it's a legitimate question to ask on here. Everyone is saying that we should be thankful for being where we are given our budget so I just ask.....what will our budget be next season ?  Because if its the same as in the summer (and let's be honest we didnt spend any money in January apart from the BFK - who is raw & not experienced inEnglish football) then we can expect more of the same. I think we should be looking at more than just keeping our heads above water, because a few long injuries/ loss of form and its hello League 1.

    WBA are probably the worst team in the League atm bar Sheff Wed. That was the first time since New Year that they've taken the lead in a game & I think they've forgotten how to win. We were second best for most of the game. We had 2 efforts on goal all night.

    It's another point closer to survival which I will be delighted about should we achieve it. It hasn't been pretty but somehow it's been effective. I remain scarred by our brush with the League Two trapdoor so where we are right now feels like dreamland. 

    I have had periods of doubt about Nathan Jones and his methodology but he still feels to me like the 100% right man for us. The players look like they bust a gut for him and do whatever he asks them to do. It's all a far cry from the guff served up by Jones' predecessors and some of the abject failures who wore our shirt. 

    Stay up this season and I'll throughly enjoy the summer and the cricket season whilst waiting for the fixtures to come out and see which oven  ready Champo players Jones brings in. We haven't stayed up in the Champo since 2014/15 so it'll be a real achievement should we manage it this season.

    I shall be keeping the faith and supporting Jones and the players for this final push. 
    Great post mate. I could do with this sort of clear thinking sometimes. Safe rest of the journey home.

    Why would it mean any of that? The players we already have don’t just disappear…

    Think people are massively overestimating what’s needed to get us to mid table and beyond.

    We are 7 points off 12th and 14 points off 6th.

    If we can get a couple of extra wins and draws in each new season, it will mean continued progress.

    That only takes 2-3 quality signings each summer to see such improvement over the course of a 46 game season.

    I missed the first half completely and watched the second outside our guesthouse on an Amazon Fire tablet from about 3:45 in the morning. Yes, I'm back in Thailand for a few days.

    It wasn't pretty but a point is a point and a point a game will lead us to safety in The Championship. Would I prefer us to play prettier football? Yes, but not at the expense of points being earned by keeping clean sheets or restricting the opposition to a solitary goal. Look at West Brom; they passed the ball around much better than us yet haven't had a win in the last ten. 

    We have some tough games coming up and I hope we can keep that gap to the bottom three to six or seven points. That gap becomes harder to narrow with every game that passes. Flowing football or backs to the wall solid defence and the odd breakaway? Of course the former is preferable but it is points that count at this stage. We can do it.

    Pretty poor performance but it was a must not lose and we didn't. The Leaburn and Dykes partnership needs to end, and i genuinely don't see why we've got rid of Apter to replace him with Fevrier. 

    However it's now 1 defeat in 6 and we're still 7 points clear of the drop zone with another game chalked off.

    3 tough games coming up now against promotion contenders so i'd expect more of the same, digging in, trying to keep it tight and then looking to nick a goal. It's not pretty but results are far more important than performances.

    At our current PPG rate we should be safe with a couple of games to go and can have a party at home to Hull on 25 April. I'm sure we all know it won't be that simple though, it is Charlton after all.
