Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion (DEADLINE DAY from Page 814)

A lot of talk about JRS on the Cawley podcast doesnt look like an easy deal but talked an awful lot for it to not have legs22
-
They want £5m!!! Think it’ll go down to the last day of the window.1
-
Whether we get Rak-Sakyi is dependant on:
1. Your Wrexham's and Burnley's not paying 5m for him, I don't see us paying that price at all...
2. Palace giving in and reducing the price to 3-4 million
3. The club eager to get Jes in despite the decently big price.
4. Jes picking Charlton over promotion clubs.14 -
In light of today’s fees that’s not a million miles away from what he’s probably worth.RedRobin said:They want £5m!!! Think it’ll go down to the last day of the window.
But agree - this will go to the wire but we are giving it a go and he’s clearly our first choice22 -
Id say very decent chance of both those deals happening based on Cawley

I personally think 4-5 million is cheap and very fair.
For context, Tyreece is a year younger with way less pedigree at this stage, and I'd feel physically sick if we sold him for less than 5 million when you look at what some of these league 1 players are going for.
JRS is their academy lad (/chelsea), they've had him for a number of years and he has proven himself in this league to some degree.
Buying him now and paying the fee, stops us from entering into a bit of a transfer war with bigger clubs when they can pick him up for a bosman fee, where we definitely won't be able to compete. The club willing to pay a fee now could be the difference.
We sign him and extend TCs contract, we have two very exciting wingers in their early 20s who after one good season could be worth 15 million plus.
It isn't my money, but a complete no brainer for me. Bring Jes home.43 -
Seriously wonder what I am reading here sometimes 😃
JRS is overrated. He only looked good (nowhere near great) because we had an abysmal team and it was League 1.
His record overall is not great.
24/25 Sheff Utd: 7 goals from 34 games
25 /26 Obscure Turkish team: 4 goals from 11 games
26: Stoke: 2 goals from 15 games
This is not landmark stuff and certainly the stuff of dreams to think worth £4-5 million.
Especially when we have Godden, Leaburn, TC, Grant, Kelman and MBick.
Money, if we have any, should be spent elsewhere.38 -
I'm not sold on JRS either but saying we shouldn't buy a RW because we have strikers isn't the best logic in the worldDoomer Jon said:Seriously wonder what I am reading here sometimes 😃

I won't be surprised if Palace try to include Mbick in any deal for JRS.4

Give it 6 months and Mbick will be worth more than JRS (if JRS doesn't move this window)SantaClaus said:I won't be surprised if Palace try to include Mbick in any deal for JRS.13 -
If it's so easy to look good in an abysmal team, how come the rest of them look abysmal...Doomer Jon said:Seriously wonder what I am reading here sometimes 😃

Hang on - the Sheff Utd line is solid. Played regularly for a team coming third and scoring at a rate akin to 10 from the wing across a whole season? What’s wrong with that.Doomer Jon said:Seriously wonder what I am reading here sometimes 😃

Obscure Turkish team? The likes of Galatasaray, Fenerbache, Besiktas, Trabzonspor are far from tinpot and the team he played for were solid mid table. A great return.
Only line that’s a bit underwhelming is joining a stagnating Stoke lumping long balls over his head.
Let’s stop this ridiculous narrative that he’s underwhelmed away from us and we can get better34 -
The Sheffield United spell is better than I remembered and I think it's right to say he hasn't underwhelmed but I think it's also valid to say he hasn't pushed on as much as we all thought he would. If he had, there wouldn't be a chance we could sign him. Just as we shouldn't suggest he's poor we shouldn't ignore his weaknesses too. Maybe our 4231 system nullifies them somewhat and maybe him coming has the hard to quantify benefit of improving TC's performance. He could certainly come here, be great and be sold for loads in the future. He could also come here and underwhelm. He'd be a gamble in my eyes, albeit one more weighted towards success than failure, but in our position most signings are going to be gamblesDamoNorthStand said:

Please watch these and look at his technique, pace, footwork and surely you can't think he is overrated?

We would be closer to play-offs than relegation if we had more players like Jes.14 -
If JRS came in and scored at a rate of 1 in 5, he'll get 8 goals for us this season. If Carey has a similar output this season to last season, TC gets similar amounts to JRS (has 2 in 2 already) and Godden stays fit most of the season, suddenly we have a lot more goals in the side, and that's before mentioning Kelman, Grant, Leaburn and Knibbs who you'd hope can add some goals between them.
Wingers getting into double figures in the championship isn't an everyday occurrence12 -
Personally think the 5M price tag is too high for JRS, would use the Kamara 2.5M price tag from Hull to Pompey at a similar bench mark both very similar players and career history.I wouldn’t mind JRS back but wouldn’t want our pants being pulled down at the same time. I’d be more happy if we paid 2.5-3M upfront then chucked on performance related add ons, either way this one feels very much like it’s going to delay and delay until either us or palace buckle.Think Palace need to financially offload him much more than we need him which hopefully favours us. 5M is pocket change for Burnley and Wrexham so if there was truly competition he would have already gone by now which makes me think we’re in the driver seat2
-
Think nearer 3m with hefty sell on would be closer to what I’d pay for JRS. He’s out of contract at the end of the season. They wouldn’t get that then.10

I wonder this too, every time you post.Doomer Jon said:Seriously wonder what I am reading here sometimes 😃5 -

You’re right to say he hasn’t underwhelmed and also hasn’t pushed on to where we thought he was heading.fenaddick said:

Let’s stop this ridiculous narrative that he’s underwhelmed away from us and we can get betterYou have to wonder though, if he hasn’t pushed on, because he’s not found a home yet. Young player, his current team clearly don’t want him and loan him out every single season. Most of us would struggle to perform if being moved around UK/Europe every year and expected to be excellent. While it’s naive to presume he would immediately perform for us the way he did before, there is some history there, that if he is settled and feels at home, that his incredible spark and talent could fully return.5 -
Happens all the time. When Toney went to Saudi - Peterborough got a nice pay out.Crispywood said:
I’ve never heard of a situation in football where sell on’s stay active past the club you’ve sold the player to I very much doubt this is the case.DubaiCAFC said:Don’t know how true but heard we did a deal on Konsa transfer we would get a percentage on transfers moving forward, hence the cheapness of the deal at the time. Fair enough, I was told when Southall was in charge of the club, that there was a sell on. But take Cawley word for it!fenaddick said:
Back in 2019 Cawley didn't think there was one and that wouldn't surprise meDubaiCAFC said:Don’t know how true but heard we did a deal on Konsa transfer we would get a percentage on transfers moving forward, hence the cheapness of the deal at the time. My understanding at time #cafc sold him to Brentford was that there was no sell-on.

JRS has been loaned out to new teams each year with different environments, tactics and managers. If he was to finally be bought by someone who believed in him, I have no doubt he would flourish. Hopefully this can be us: playing with close friends, living in an area he grew up in, playing in front of fans who already like him and in a team that is invested in his long term future. The numbers are better than some are giving him credit for. They also don’t tell the full story. His talent and ability is clear to anyone who has watched him; he can do things that nobody else in our squad can. Buying him would be done with the belief that we could unlock something in him.The £5m fee is on the high side, hence why we aren’t paying it yet. Especially when you consider he’s coming off a down year and with his contract expiring. He would’ve been worth £10-12m after the Sheff United loan. However, I do think that this £5m figure is broadly in line with the market. I think we all need to recalibrate our expectations to get used to the fees spent in this league, especially when it comes to the price of potential. A deal around £2.5-3m with some future performance based add-ons would be great value in my mind.I would love us to push the boat out and spend on JRS. As much as I am in favour of the slow and sustainable approach, I think we need to have a marquee signing each year or so that will likely require a more significant outlay to try and improve the ceiling of our team.14

Also feel 5m is very reasonable for JRS and expect other champ clubs that can offer higher wages to match that unfortunately9
-
It depends were the player wants to go though. If it was to the highest bidder TC would be in Preston right nowfollett said:Also feel 5m is very reasonable for JRS and expect other champ clubs that can offer higher wages to match that unfortunately5 -
Yes because Peterborough sold him to Brentford who then sold him to Saudi, that’s the literal definition of a sell on clause. If Saudi then sold him to Newcastle, Peterborough wouldn’t get another sell on fee which is what we are talking about here.DubaiCAFC said:

£5m is probably fair for JRS if he wasn’t heading into the last year of his contract.
It’s equally worth more to some clubs than others. £5m to us is a HUGE proportion of a budget on a player that hasn’t fully kicked on since league one with one year left on his contract. I’d fully understand that we can’t spend that. But for Burnley with parachute payments and the many millions they’re about to get from Flemming £5m is a small risk on a player with lots of potential.
There is a bit of me that thinks Jes is holding out for us because I get the feeling he may have already gone somewhere if he didn’t mind.0 -
5M is fair for JRS in this market but if we’d holding out till Parish blinks and we can get a deal done for 3M or so it will be an excellent addition5
-
If we manage to shift Kaminski and sign Onkonkwo and JRS on a perm I don't think anyone can have any complaints about this window. JRS one side and Campbell the other side would scare the shit out of defenders32
