I will be pleased and relieved if JRS signs, as I think he will strengthen our first XI, and we are unlikely to sign anyone else as good at this late stage of the window. However, in an ideal world, I would rather we had signed, for a similar amount of money, Jordan Holsgrove, or someone of that ilk, as we will still be left with a paper-thin midfield that will look vulnerable if Chalobah is injured. And that was obviously NJ's strategy for the window, too.
On another matter, why has no report been posted of our u18's 3-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday?2 -

I'd say that pretty much every player wants to start. We need a good to great 14/15 players and it looks like we're heading in the right direction.
But you are right in that football is definitely a squad game now. There's a reason that lesser PL sides who make Europe tend to then have a very poor league season, their squads aren't good enough to play in multiple competitions.1 -

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. We're well covered on the right. No-one knows JRS is going to be better than Grant. And Grant has far more experience in the Championship than JRS. And we have cover with Apter and Alli. Maybe NJ has decided to look somewhere else? Maybe we should temper our expectations a little?

Campbell on his prefered Right
Grant playing more central behind the main striker
And that looks pretty good to me

Given our recent history of dreadful injury records and paper thin squads I think depth is always a big part of the puzzle, however in the position you reference we currently have Coventry, Chalobah, Ouma, Mwamba, Docherty and (if need be) JRC and even Carey who NJ I think ideally wants to play deeper. Chalobah and Mwamba won’t be available for every game for different reasons so we do need some depth there. Ouma I suppose is the unknown quantity because we really don’t know how good he’s going to be. Looking forward to seeing him start because the clips I’ve seen makes him look very exciting.2

I don't think its a case of anyone being harsh on Carey but if JRS does sign then it means someone has to leave.PeaksAndValleys said:Think some people are being very harsh on Carey. Still putting himself about loads, still driving the ball up the pitch pretty regularly. He got a good shot off against West Ham that was well saved. He's still a very important part of the team imo.
Also in terms of progress, he is undoubtedly getting his head up more and passing - hasn't always picked the right option but for a lot of last season he was just running headlong into tackles. He still brings what he brought last year and he's showing positive signs where we need improvement.
We already need to be shipping out Kaminski, Asiimwe, Docherty and Kanu before JRS even arrives.
We could try and move on Apter and/or Knibbs who may appear to be the next players to move on but apart from pretty much giving them away on free transfers or loans with us paying the wages, squad numbers have to reduce and at some point if nobody comes in for these players with a reasonable offer then it may be a case of having to move on someone we may want to not only keep but may also draw in a sizeable transfer fee (like Carey) if he's potentially no longer guaranteed a first team start. Yes i'm aware he was our top scorer last season and he started on Saturday but sometimes things can move quickly in football. I honestly wouldn't expect Carey to leave but we shouldn't rule it out either, purely just for the money and to free up a squad space if JRS signs.1 -

Godden seems to be moving down the pecking order. Will he be happy with 2nd or 3rd choice off the bench at his age? Loads of L1 sides would give him a two year deal I'm sure.2

I'm sure when signing that deal he was well aware that we were not intending to make a 35 year old our main striking option - quite possibly he was even counting on it. This way he gets his wage, he keeps training, he gets a proper run out every now and then but he's not expected to play week in week out.NabySarr said:

I cant think he'd be too upset with that result, he's always seemed to be a player who sees football as just a job instead of wanting to be the big fish.3 -
If we could also shift Costello and bring in Holsgrove then that would be a 10/10 window. Can’t see that happening though, but think he will remain a long term target for us5
