Mbick leaving would be bad business even at that fee but made worse that we couldn’t possibly get a replacement at this stage.
I wonder when they put a bid in ?  Nothing to say it was 30 mins ago. Could have been earlier today.

Didn't Cawley mention on his last podcast that Jonathan Fortune is his agent?
Didn’t Jon Fortune do this with someone else with us too?
Not sure what the issue is? Agents can't force clubs to bid, they obviously see something in Mbick.

The balls in our court now going forward. We know there's interest of potentially big numbers down the line. We keep him and he does brilliantly as he matures or we have people we want in the future ready if we sold him. About time some of these deals favoured us.

Yeah when he came off against Spurs I said to myself "That's not the last time he'll play in that stadium." There's quality there, it's just he's only shown it at League Two level thus far.
To be fair ignoring our current place solid enough chance we play there in the league next season

I would bite their hands off & drive him.there myself tonight.

    Bonkers turning that down imo.
We could triple that price at the end of the season. The lad will be a premier league striker in a couple of seasons IMHO
Oh good. He can join up Leaburn again as he was deemed Premier League quality 2 years ago.

People wonder why we're not progressing as a Football club, not spending money at this level blah blah blah
Then when we get poultry offers for our kids, wonder why we're rejecting such bids
Tbf you'd get a lot of chicken breast for £5m. With £2m worth of wings as an add on

The handy thing with our CM loans is that we can improve on them as part of Evolution Phase 2.

Great that we have a prospect in Mbick thats already attracting big money interest. That will only increase which is why it’s gratifying to see the club acknowledge his true worth is going to be much more further down the line. The downside of course is that eventually he’ll want that move and why wouldn’t he. As long as it turns out well for both Charlton and Mbick, alls well.

Don’t think he wants to be here. Hopefully our move before Southamptons next. To put into context, Millwall getting double that amount for Azeez who was one of the best attackers
in the league last year. Mbick scored a few gials
in league two and in the cup against the paper mills. Like the clubs ambition but sometimes you need to know when a deal should be done.
    Yeah. So do you.
I think it’s a great price for someone that hasn’t really played for us.

    Disappointing if so
    That's his agents job
No. That is how his agent tries to maximise his own revenue. In a normal world, his "job" is a bit more than that.

If Brighton wanted him, how is Southampton an equally good reason for him to move now?

Especially as those cheating ***** should soon be looking for a new manager.
I assume you’re trying to ask why Southampton might be a better move than Brighton? All manner of reasons. Mainly that he’d most likely be in and around the first team squad rather than the academy, that means no loan, better wages, better chance to settle in one place, might have sold him a better “project” etc etc.

Of course his agents job is more than getting Mbick a move but not all agents are evil like you consistently make out
Apart from "better wages" you've listed things that Charlton can more than match, with the addition of not having to move anywhere and having a manager who already believes in him. As for their "project", we'll see what that looks like when Eckhart gets the boot. They may have more (parachute) money but so did Leicester.

I do not think agents are "evil". The way agents can earn  attracts rat-up-a-drain types, as does estate agency and recruitment and headhunting (which I did, for 26 years), but without the guard-rails that limit extreme levels of greed and self-interest.

If its Jon Fortune that's sad. I kept hearing that he is one of the "good ones". However they had him as a guest on Charlton TV once, and I wasn't too sure about that after I listened to him.

I may be wrong but I’m sure he’s done us over as an agent in the past.

He’s barely played for us and already teams are bidding £7m. He’s only 19. There’s clearly so much more to come from him and getting the most out of sales is such an important part of progressing as a football club. It would be insane to sell him now

Tend to agree it looks like Doc could be off to Scotland.

I think we have nice options for the two deeper midfielders now …. And means we can get the best of or Chalobah (play him 10-15 hand selected games a year), Mwamba (not have to overload him) and Ouma isn’t the messiah and is now a low risk cheap loan.

Ironically I could see Mwamba playing in the 10 role in tougher away games when he may need to drop back alongside the deeper two at times

Young English strikers are like gold dust in this market so it’s not surprising clubs are wanting to buy Mbick and develop him because if he kicks on even a little bit he’s suddenly worth at least 3 times what they’ve paid.

You do realise that the price will only increase if he plays and shows that he is worth £7m or more.
It is equally possible that he plays and shows that he isn't worth anything like that (hopefully not).
Too many people on here seem to think that it's a given that he's worth much more.

Five years ago, maybe. People have already pointed out some examples of the dross that goes for that money now. Of course there are no guarantees but if NJ still believes in him then the upside to keeping him for at least this season  is huge. And also you know, this will sound very old fashioned but I'd like to drool over young talented attacking footballers playing for Charlton for their talent rather than their "asset value". I've got my Hargreaves Lansdowne app for that.
