He’s looked so poor for a couple of years now. No way he is earning wages that are out of our budget next season. And I don’t want us spending them on him anyway. He did great for us but that was a long time ago.MarcusH26 said:Wages would be my main concern with Aribo , also didn't do a lot in that very poor Leicester side.
Could see him going back to Rangers13 -
worth it just for "Joe, Joe, Super Jo, Super Jo Aribo....." IMHO.0

This reminds me that Richard Wright has an unfortunate claim to fame in that he scored an own goal on his Wembley debut (playing for Ipswich) and another on his England debut (against Malta, I think?) Both goals being very similar to the one you describe from Petterson (although I think they rebounded off the back of his head rather than his back).Starinnaddick said:
I can't forget when in the play off at the Valley against Swindon, Fiertoft hit the woodwork and the ball rebounded from Pettersons back into the goal.Leaburn Forever said:
Andy Petterson was hilarious. I asked him to talk me through his sending off at Villa Park. He looked me straight in the eye, smiled, and said I got the ball!wmcf123 said:
Good Charlton teams have good goalkeepers too. The 98 promotion side being the exception to the modern era rule . Kaminski and Mannion do have that feel of Petterson/Salmon to me .AddicksAddict said:
We don’t know how good he could have been, he never had anything to do.Henry Irving said:I believe great teams have great keepers.*
If we can find and afford a much better keeper we should do it.
* Brazil 1970 are the exception to this rule.
He also scored a different, but equally hilarious own goal for us when playing for Arsenal. Great day that. 😎2 -
Richard had an unfortunate game against us at Highbury, another own goal. What a day that was. One of the greatest away games I have ever been to. We should have been at least 5 or 6 down at half time.lordromford said:

I met up with an Arsenal supporting friend that evening. He was furious. Went on a rant about how they had 70% possession, 35 shots to our 3, dominated territorially etc etc.Leaburn Forever said:

I just responded that we got 67% of the goals.
😎
He was absolutely apoplectic and the other 3 of us (Charlton, West Ham and Man U) ripped the piss out of him all night. 😂8 -
I was in a pub that day where the governor was a Gooner, let him know several times that I was Charlton, lucky not to get chucked out.0

I heard Elon Musk is going to be a key investor in Charlton from here in and has just been waiting for some cash flow liquidity to open up.
Now Space X has floated I expect us to have a very busy summer in the transfer market. Very busy.

Aribo needs either a kick up his (seemingly ever growing) arse or a loving arm around his shoulder and assurances that he's still a phenomenal footballer on his day.
He'll end up in Turkey, Scotland or barely featuring for a championship club higher up than we currently are, IMO, I can see him at Sheffield United or Burnley, for instance1 -

Could see him going back to RangersI’d ask this question when anyone mentions someone is too much for us, because nobody actually knows.🤷🏻♂️2 -

Wasnt that the Coca Cola cup?
season when the transfer news is slow and we digress into obscure early league cup round ties in the mid 90s. We all had high hopes carrying a first leg lead of 3-1 back to the valley

Money probably dominates every conversation regarding transfers.
As I have said before, I think we have to sort out the position of Ahadme, Apter, Tanto and possibly a couple of others who are unlikely to play for us next season in order to know what we might have to spend for next season.
Now Nathan Jones has talked about being ruthless, but that is an ambiguous term, it might even be about upsetting the fans as much as the players.
Nathan Jones also talks of 'evolution' which to my mind is what he has been doing pretty much since his appointment. Now quite reasonably the fans want a 'better' style of football to begin to emerge, but could that be at the expense of not evolution but necessary consolidation?
I don't believe we have yet got a platform to believe we have made it in this division, but we could get there if we avoid playing silly buggers. To the disappointment of many I think we ought to (for next season at least) double down on our style, reputation and approach. At least that way we have an identity for good or (hopefully not) ill.
It is unrealistic to think we ought to go from a dark Samuel Beckett play to an all singing and dancing Lloyd Webber musical just like that.

Well his wages will be £0 per week in a month as it stands.Sword65pf said:

Was on £65k a week at Southampton. I can't see him taking a 70% paycut to fit into our structure if Kaminski is the highest earner ATM at £20k.Sword65pf said:
