Been told another is very close to joining.  No idea on name or position yet….Sparrows Lane is currently like Fort Knox
Its a RB. As mentioned a fair bit pre season, Jones wants to play 4-2-3-1 this season whenever possible
    Welcome back Chris Gunter!

Did the Osei-Tutu signing get scrapped because of a failed medical? I know it hasn’t been confirmed but feel like someone said that. That’s the only RB I can remember us being linked with, but have to admit I’ve lost track… not a criticism of the thread of course

So what do we reckon then…4 signings possibly/probably remaining and circa £10m to spend on those signings?

So that probably means a RB, 2 x CM and a forward (who can play wide). I would welcome Rak-Sakyi back with open arms (he would probably have to be a loan)

And Mark Sykes who went to Millwall but he was always considered more of a midfield / wing back option.

We're only getting a right back in because Ramsay is being sold... and probably for half the fee while the owners pocket the rest to cover running costs. We're still skint and the sky is still falling.

Did I get it right? :-)
Good effort Callum. Need to turn your negativity up a bit more though ;-)

Four days without a signing and we're back to "we're doomed".

Signings will come, they won't be as sexy or expensive as some other clubs, we may even have to wait until after the season starts for some of them, especially any premier league loans but they will happen.

As to whether they will be good enough to keep us up, well, we'll know in May 2027 not July 2026.
Why does it bother you Henners, thought you were an Orient supporter...😉
I was referring to the Os transfer business, you vile man ;-)
    Cheers Henry.
    Everything okay.
    Steve is going.

    This is not transfer news.

I think the interesting thing with Lincoln is the momentum and the element of surprise they will be carrying into this new season. I fully expect them to start the season well, just like we did last year, but it's then whether they can sustain that and for how long that will count. I didn't watch any League One football last season, but they had a hell of season in terms of points and goal difference and that would suggest they are already a better side than we were in 24/25. If you look at how we did when we came up under Powell off a similar season to the one Lincoln just had, despite not being able to invest heavily in new players, I think they have a shot of finishing well clear of trouble.

The truth for us is that momentum and strong start is probably what ultimately saw us stay up. The first 14 games (just under 1/3 of the season) accumulated us 23 points at 1.64 points per game. The remaining 32 games/two-thirds of the season accumulated just 30 points at 0.94 points per game. Once teams saw enough of us to build plans for playing us, tiredness/injuries started to set in, and we came up against the reality of the winter trudge, there was a clear drop off and we never really got a second wind. If we hadn't had that fantastic start, the majority of our season was relegation form, and we could easily have gone down.

Now, that's somewhat moot because we did have that great start and we did stay up, which is all that, ultimately, matters, but the point is we are not riding the same wave into this season that we rode into 25/26. We have to be aware of that and:
    a) realize that it's that latter two-thirds of the season that we need to reference when assessing where and how much squad strengthening is needed
    b) be mentally prepared as a club and fanbase that the entirety of this season could very well be similar to the majority of last season and that, once again, staying out of serious bother for most of the year will actually be progress and a great sign of consolidation as an establishing Championship club.

    Cheers gents.

I am of course referring to Stoke, Preston and Bristol City. Bang average sides that are pure gatekeeper teams in this league (respectfully, I wish we were them) and their spend on one player will probably match our budget this season and in some cases, last seasons.

Of course Boro don't fit that bill, but they're still in the same league as us, and they're spending big sums. Irrespective of if that was funded by player sales.

Bookies have us down as 2nd favourites to go down. On squad strength alone, I am struggling to identify 3 squads worse than ours with the exception of the newly promoted trio, two of which I expect to be almost on par with us before the season starts.

I just think it's going to be an extremely difficult season and 21st would be a hell of an achievement imo with our circumstances. (One of the lowest spending sides in the league with a lot of league 1 players still)

Joint third favs to go down. It goes Lincoln, Bolton and then us and Cardiff equal (Bet365).
They had us down to be relegated by Xmas last season look what happened not in the bottom 3 at all ….think Pompey and Blackburn will be below us as well … think second season is tougher then the first season cause your more known now .
Well said. Also I think many had Hull down to struggle too and that didn't work out too bad for them. I'm not saying we will go up but I think we will hold our own.

The signing of one quality would change our outlook on the upcoming season I’m sure. I trust Nathan and Phil know what they’re doing

No but he is a right winger and we need one of those too. He is also high in pressing, tackling success and defensive contribution metrics for a winger, something I'm sure Nathan Jones would admire in him.

Problem is all the linking has been from fans on here, there's no actual solid interest from us as it stands, at least not in the public eye

Now Lincoln are getting stuck in. So much for me thinking they would bribe their best players with a sausage roll and a can of coke as a performance bonus.

Oh no, another one we've missed out on!

NJ and Phil must be still on holiday
He’s pointing out the Lincoln have money to spend which should concern us.

It’s going to be a tight fight at the bottom this year with the floor a lot closer than it was with shef Wednesday’s deduction
Did you expect them not to spend money and have a go at it..like we did?

    Get a grip.
    Get a grip of what?

They’re obviously going to spend money. You can also be worried about your rivals spending big on players.

This really isn’t a crazy concept
Do you know the players they are buying? Should we have bought them?

Honestly couldn't give a shit who Lincoln buy and I trust NJ and Chapple to get it right.

Bulk of our squad survived last year so that experience will count for something. Add some quality and we should be pushing on.
We are not operating in a vacuum. Who other teams buy matters.

But just keep your head in the sand👍
It matters, but it also doesn't matter - because its not something that we can control at all. If they go out and spend multiple millions on several different players, so be it - it may work for them, it may not but we have our own strategy that we are following.
I'd hope that we aren't aiming to fish in the same pond as they are, but even if we are this is why we have multiple options on the go at once. I can't imagine Jones or the owners having a plan for this season that seriously revolves around trying to compete with Lincoln.

No they didn't. We were 4th favourites to go down via the bookies (Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford and Hull ahead of us) and most Championship pundits and analysts thought we had a chance to survive and none said we were a sure thing to go down.

It's very different this season, as there aren't any teams with transfer embargos like Hull, or point deductions.

This is a far more difficult season to stay up.
Lincoln have lost their inspirational manager.
Cardiff have good youngsters, but aren't big spenders. They're only money is on their keeper, was on loan with them last season
Bolton were a mediocre side, who scraped up via the playoffs
Blackburn still have an awful owner.
Pompey will still be bottom 3rd of the table
West Brom and QPR won't be much better than they were last season etc

    You were saying.

Quite a few giving up on the season already, couldn’t post the lotto numbers after looking in they’re crystal balls by any chance?

You'll get a bit more upbeat once we bring in a few players, the experts will then say they are fantastic, even though they would never have seen them play.
I think you'll find our fans are no different to anybody elses really.
I’ve posted often about needing patience and I stand by that, if / when NJ throws in the towel due to lack of support from the board, I might feel differently, if nothing else we know he will not stand for just plodding along hoping for the best. The people that have decided we are 100% going to be relegation fodder before we have finished our business and before the season has started is quite frankly ridiculous, if fans of any club should know better it should be a Charlton fan. We’ve have always been better than the sum of our parts when we are going well.no reason to think we can’t do that again, it’s not a sin to look upwards.

I’m still concerned about the 4-2-3-1. Think we need a lot more business to be done if that’s actually going to be our shape this season. Redmond and Apter won’t cut it, would need 2 new right wingers brought in, plus what we need in midfield and at right back
