people are viewing things in ever decreasing desperate circles - got lost in there own analysis and can't see the wood for the trees - it happens to managers sometimes, lets hope its not happening to ours atm

*Signs a right back on a free from an established Championship club*

Nooooooo FFS not that one! Sign a better one!

    "we need a right back"

alternate universe where we spend money on a right back

Noooooo FFS stop wasting our precious money on right backs, we need to spend money on wingers you fools!

The club can't win with some of you I swear to God.

As it stands we need a first choice right winger, a first choice box to box midfielder, and depending on if they believe Coventry will look better with a top midfielder next to him, either a replacement for him or genuine competition in the holding midfield role.

On top of that, it would just be if we can further improve positions, Tanto and Kanu out and a championship striker in, Apter out and a second right winger in, that kind of thing

We still have 3 weeks to get things in motion
glad you're not the manager - i started the summer thinking we need a better first choice front 5/6
We already have Grant, a probable upgrade on TC, I mention RW, ST and both midfield roles, the only one I haven't explicitly stated is CAM, where between Knibbs, Carey and Fullah we are pretty well off.

I'm glad you're not the manager because if you had your way we'd probably have a player churn of 80% every year and be on a one way trip to admin

How many signings did jones say we were expecting again?

By my count we still need a right winger, striker, centre attacking midfielder and 2 centre midfielders.
  • Funnily enough since Stjohn’s latest post around the 'central position' . Reams has claimed he too has received info that a midfielder is defo coming in.

    Stinks

All hail Stjohnshill the true ITK!!
    maybe Reams is Stjohnshill  ;)
    Would be brilliant that 😂👏🏻
    Erm no.

He wanted 7 or 8, we have 4

I can't see us getting a winger and a CAM, it'll be one or the other and winger is far higher in the "need" category.

Striker will only be if we move some out, and 7 think that's the "or 4" part

The amount of people that seem to think we can just buy 6/7 new starters every summer need to spend less time on football manager.

Slow and steady progression is our pathway and I’m personally happy about that.
This ^ I couldn't care less what other teams are throwing around fee wise. The owners have always been clear progression going to be done sustainably and over a period of time.

Still think there's probably another 4 maybe 5 signings to come , the extra signing might depend on outs.
  • Where have the Aribo whispers come from? Re-signing him would be a big NO from me. Hopefully it's just another baseless rumour doing the rounds on X??

Absolutely agree with this. Hope it is our strategy in which case would expect us to secure players like LJ, TC and Ramsay for the longer term too as that’s all part of building stability and the core of a squad.

Abu Kamara is an interesting rumour that seems to have legs.

If we compare him to our best winger (currently) in TC, he seems to have a higher ceiling. He was a far better winger than TC in league 1, stats back that up, just hasn't quite cut it at Champ level.

Pompey fans seem to want him back, but believe anything over 2 million is too much.

For me he falls into that category of it seems like too much as he hasn't pulled up trees at this level, but seems like a player with potential upside, and would improve us on the right. If we are gonna play a 4231, TC and Kamara as proper wingers may actually be decent.

Not my money, so would be happy to see him sign.

    Bring me Holsgrove
A friend of mine knows Holsgrove. He told NJ he wasn’t interested despite Jones best efforts to sell the club and project.

He wants to play in Germany. However, I would  love him to change his mind
That’s fair, if you’re going to be playing in a team that’s getting battered most weeks might aswell do it against Kane and Olise rather than Burnley
I think people underestimate how much players look at how a team plays and if it will progress them as a player. Not many players will be ecstatic to join a side that concedes the lions share of posession, particularly away and don't create many clear cut chances.

Usually the only way to convince players is offering so much money they don't care too much about the result, or they're a bit desperate.

Specifically talking about midfielders and forwards here. We're a defenders dream to join, can put yourself right in the shop window and boost your reputation.

Well, looks like we can put 'wouldn't play for rival team' with 'no player would want to play for that manager' in the nonsense things fans say pile
"As soon as I met the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. The ambitions of the club and what he wants to build is very exciting and I want to be a part of that."

But players don't want to play for Jones.

This is quite an interesting thought exercise then. Why would Charlie Kelman have joined us? Would he be on a mega wage? Is the rumoured 3.5m part of it (I doubt it was actually that high btw)?

He would have been hot property after a very good season in League One, he chooses a team stylistically dissimilar. Has NJ sold him the project, and that year one might be one thing, but years 2/3/4 are different? I think there's something in here about the long-term vision that you might not be considering Braz, but you're right tbf that right now we are still gonna be a more attractive proposition for defenders. Though I don't think we are as forlorn as you might think - Karlan Grant signing for us instead of staying on at WBA might be an indicator.

What bothers me most about the signing of macnamara is it reduces the number of quality players we can bring in who might just transform the way we play - unless he's just joining on a minimal wage with the hope he can start playing again and it gets reviewed if he proves useful - its bad news if he's one of the remaining 3 or 4 that we seemed to think were left to come in. Of all the positions i was hoping that last 3 or 4 players might play, right back wasn't one that's for sure. The fact it may mean Ramsey is closer to the door is an added downer. The next 2 or 3 signings need to be exceptional / blow me away level or i'll be dusting off my takeover files.
There’s definitely big pressure on the remaining 3 signings, especially as that’s where it appears the absolute vast majority of our spending budget will be spent.

As you say, none of the signings to date appear likely to really elevate us to the ‘ruthless’ levels discussed earlier in the summer. We were told to be patient and wait for quality and I’m sure the club are majorly aware of the need to inject real quality now.
He was talking about being ruthless in the sense of letting players go
Being ruthless in letting players go goes hand in hand with bringing in better quality. You’re not going to make difficult decisions on letting players leave then replace them with similar or lesser quality. The whole push to move players on is to make space to kick on

I'd be surprised, if we mainly play 433/4231 this season, if we didn't keep Apter around as an option to play in his natural position. We coughed up over £2m for him 12 months ago, that's too big an investment for a club like us to throw away.
If Apter is still struggling in January, then we might have to loan him out again, but I think he's worth keeping for the first half of the season.
Apter is gash. No motivation. I doubt he will play for Charlton again.

Good QoL, the training facilities and stadiums are absolutely unreal, and pay and exposure are both pretty good

I think the Kelman example doesn't fit what I am saying. The rumours are he wasn't wanted at QPR anymore and the only other really other interested club (that we know of publicly) was West Brom, and they didn't feel he fit the price tag. (We overpaid in a lot of peoples eyes)

Now if you are Kelman, your options are, stay at a club where you know they're actively looking to replace you, go on loan again, or join Charlton and get a nice bit of cash doing so.

When you compare it to someone like Holsgrove being mentioned (genuine link, or delusion?) He is currently playing in the Portuguese top flight as a midfielder. He will be wanting a move that upgrades him, Charlton would be a backwards step potentially.

I really don't think Karlan Grant is an impressive signing to be honest. It seems like a stop gap signing for us, I am not expecting him to come here and break records, just do a job like Dykes, but maybe a bit better.

We are in a position where it is unlikely we can sign the players that get mentioned on here like BDK, Mills, Holsgrove etc, that would improve us and have genuine transfer sell on potential. We will probably have to just crawl ourselves to survival for a while until there's some serious cash being pushed in.

As long as we finish 21st I don't care, it just looks a big ask currently.

Fantastic Bundesliga > PL pipeline available, weirdly probably easier to move to the PL from there than the Championship

2 new wingers add the flair.

Do you seriously think we'll sign 3 new midfielders to replace Carey, Docherty and Coventry? And 2 wingers? And a striker? On top of the 3 defenders we've already signed? Be realistic
