Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion

I’m guessing that we may see one permanent signing in central midfield and a Premiership loanee coming in after the Premier League clubs have announced their squads.Who knows ? The club have been very successful in keeping their cards close to their chest and, whilst I stand to be corrected, I don’t think that anyone on CL has predicted any of our 5 signings so far more than a week (if that) in advance. The club’s approach seems a sensible way to do business.4

Agreed. An alternative view is being pushed on the other forum by what appears to be one rather crazed man posting under multiple accounts
This is well worth a listen if you’re interested in why Championship owners aren’t spending so much atm, and the economics of owning a Championship club:

I like the powerful and defiant message we are transmitting loud and clear to our rivals:
'We will sign your rejects and still might avoid relegation'.12 -

To summarise the last 100 posts, we are divided as fans on the potential signing of Dykes and how good he or Leaburn actually are. A couple of decent central midfielders signed would be nice. Don’t want to rely on last minute loans.

Why do people want Kamara? Only 13 games last season, and didn't pull up any trees at Hull the season before that. Hull fans are keen to get rid are keen to get rid too. I know they have a higher expectation of things as they got promoted, but it seems to me he's had one good season in his career which was in league 1.5

It's 85% of your turnover on player wages, transfer fees and agent fees. Plus £33m can be injected by the owners over 3 years, with a maximum of £15m in 1 year. Our turnover increased by at least £11m last year for TV, a bit more commercially and a nominal amount of transfer fees (if any), although that was partially offset by an increase in wages.Wijoh said:I am honestly surprised anyone is disappointed in the owners from this transfer window so far.IF we spend some money and get 2 improvements in midfield, as I think we will (just waiting for the right people), then this has been a very successful transfer window. With the new formation and more control in midfield, Kelman, TC, Dykes and Carey are all going to play much better football. With more possession and control of a game we can bring them into the game more with more opportunities to show their skill set. Most people get it but some still don’t, the owners simply cannot put 50 million into a team. We would have a massive points deduction. We are very limited in our year on year investments we can make.As per financial fair play owners can put in and extra £33 million over three years into the club. The maximum they can in a single year is £15 million. I would have guessed last year we spent almost £15 million, which means we have £18 million to spend over the next 2 years (happy for fact checking if I’m wrong). All in all we need to be smart, and as far as I can see the owners are offering as much backing as possible in new signings for the club. I am very pleased with the owners we have and for once I trust the process.I predict we will spend the bulk of our budget on the midfielders. This will hopefully change the team quite drastically, allowing us to play slightly nicer football. If we don’t, then I still don’t blame the owners but whoever is in charge of the transfers as this position is clearly the one that needs improving (as we read day in and out on this platform).
I think you are mistaking the owners can't spend, with don't want to spend. You just have to look at Stoke as an example of an ownership circumventing the rules. Again, I'm not advocating that the owners spend more money, but I've seen a few post proclaiming that the ownership hands are tied and others "don't get it".

Have the people who feel Holsgrove would completely turn our window around ever seen him play? I haven't, I can see his stats look like he'd be suitable, but I'm surprised by the level of feeling about him signing. Maybe people watch more Portuguese League football than I do.13
-
No need to panic yet, still a long way to go in the window. I hope the midfield is taking longer due to the caliber of signing we're looking at4

But I find it ridiculous either way, as its not about being a happy clapper, or bed wetter at this stage of the season, because who knows what’s going to happen, the season is a long road with injuries / suspension and sometimes downright bad luck.I recall us bringing back Leko in 2021 with it being deemed an 8/10 window etc. by a good few... we finished 13th.People are too quick to pass judgement without knowing what the circumstances will end up being.0

Every summer I’ve been on this thread, there’s always a clamour to bring a certain player in, and it never materilises.
People go on about it as if the people running the club, don’t know what they are doing.
Its going to be a long summer, and I’m sure we’ll have some more faces through the door in August, just try and be relaxed about it all.8 -
Is MacNamara better than Ramsay. No
Is Mesik better than Edwards. No
Is Koumetio better than Bell or Burke. Promising but No
Is Alli better than TC as a LW. Unlikely. Is Grant, probably if thats where he will play.
Is Dykes better than Godden or Kelman. Only if we play hoofball and even then No.
Still, one out of six is on par for last year. Adding to the squad but not the starting XI.22 -
I wonder if one of the midfielders might move on if we bring in a "step up" first choice player. That might depend on whether NJ feels Mwamba is ready to be a bench option this season.Crispywood said:

Assuming we will try to sell/loan Kanu and Olafe. That would be 23 squad players and would give us room for 2 more signings. One of which being Dykes you would assume. Not a lot of wriggle room.
RB Ramsay/Mcnamara
RCB Jones/Sichenje/BurkeLCB Koumetio/Bell
LB Mesik/Edwards
CDM Coventry
CM JRC/Doc
CAM Carey/Knibbs
RW Alli/Apter
ST Kelman/Godden/Leaburn/Dykes
LW TC/Grant/Olaofe
that currently gives us 26 senior players out of 25. We’d assume Olaofe is gone, but if we want to bring in another winger and midfielder it could be a bit trickier, which would surprise me if we prioritise dykes before the midfielder + winger unless some players are sold
Both from a squad size pov, and also to show the pathway exists between the academy and first team, we do need U21 players around the first team. Keeping Fullah ad Mwamba might clear the way for one of JRC, Doc or Coventry to move on, especially as Doc and Cov only have 1 year left on their contracts.0 -

Think it will last 46 games … lol 😂Bedsaddick said:This season might be a long one and I can see the supporters having a short fuse with each other if things don’t go well . I would also add that because quite a lot of them now are obscenely rich, they live in a completely different world to the average fan. I think the fella at Chelsea Todd Boehly, completely matches your description. His wealth means he’s on another planet in how he thinks.Garrymanilow said:I think trying to see the logic in any football club owner's plan is a waste of time; you have to be out of your mind to own a football club. You will lose money, everyone will yell at you, you'll be ridiculed most of the time and the best you can hope for is to unexpectedly go up and sell the club, most likely for slightly less than what you've invested overall. It's a mug's game. For a more depressing comparison Barnsley's owners are worth £7 billion but are basically forcing the team to exist off free transfers and the occasional small fee in the hopes of sustainability. Why own a club that you could easily bankroll to at least the Championship with minimal effort and just lose money every year in L1 where it's not even enjoyable? Because football club owners are insane people.1 -
Sometimes it materialises. People were begging for us to sign Scott Fraser, Panutche Camara, Freddie Ladapo and Charlie Kirk for years and that worked out super well for everyone. For balance people also spent years wanting us to sign Alfie May and Matt Godden, though by the time we actually went for Godden people didn't want him because we'd got rid of May.Mendonca In Asdas said:Every summer I’ve been on this thread, there’s always a clamour to bring a certain player in, and it never materilises.

Think it would be Doc or JRC in that situation. Not sure JRC actually fits into what we require in the middle of the park and the stories going around about Doc feel like an agent that wants a 2-3 year extension but isn't getting it.killerandflash said:

JRC feels like the kind of player we'd have been after in L1. Has Championship pedigree and experience but the increase in standard means he's been left behind. Would come in and do a job for a couple of years before sliding down the league or to Scotland0

Andy Delors, what a waste of a summer that was!
Once bitten, twice shy, I’m not getting sucked in again to a ‘Must have’ signing!0 -
I agree in general I think. None of the players we've brought in so far dramatically improve the team (though I'm quietly optimistic about Koumetio coming good) but they absolutely do improve the squad given the players we lost.fenaddick said:

McNamara and Grant in particular are both "proven Championship players" which is something lots of people were clamouring for.
I think we've done a lot right actually but of course that midfield issue is going to basically make or break the entire season, so judgment has to be deferred for now.5 -
Don’t know because we’ve never seen any one them play in the league. I personally don’t think we’ve replaced Clarke or Coady, not that either of them were that good . The guy from Luton will do well to have the impact Fevrier had at the end of the season . The version of Grant from 2018 would be a huge upgrade. If he’s lost pace , he might not be . We’ll see - if we’re stronger , can’t see it being enormously so .AddickNL88 said:Gisappointed said:If Dykes signs as predicted, thats six new players in with 18 days to KO. Injuries and future sales/purchases aside, how many do CL fans see as guaranteed starters?
What tactical changes have we seen apart from passing between four at the back rather than three before hoofing it? And this is against inferior opposition.Disregarding match fitness, Grant, Alli and one of Mesik or Koumetio will almost certainly start. McNamara is probably more of a squad player, like he was at Millwall. If Dykes signs he'll likely start too, although I actually rate Kelman higher.
Another way of looking at it: with Dykes we will have brought in six players and seven have left. Which of the outgoing players would you honestly pick ahead of the incoming ones? Personally, I think the squad is stronger than it was last season.

The latest edition of ‘When Saturday Comes’ has just landed on my doormat, including the Season 2026/27 Guides. No prizes for guessing where Charlton are predicted to finish this season. Much the same as last season’s predictions, although I think that Sheffield Wednesday relieved us of 24th position.
It is only based upon predictions from supporter pundits, so what do they know, other than Charlton’s Jen Offord, who is predicting a 17th position - I do love an optimist.1 -

We need two CMs. Not one. Whether that's one permanent and one loan, I don't care, but only signing one CM would not be successful in my opinion.4
