This is all setting up nicely for Holsgrove to join Preston.52

Him and Fukuda are apparently at their training ground as we speakElliotCAFC said:This is all setting up nicely for Holsgrove to join Preston.10 -

To be fair, that does look like a low-ball bidHenry Irving said:No way we have bid €2m.
Well known fact that we're skint and Jones is unhappy

Hearing that proximity to the National Railway Museum has swung it in their favourElliotCAFC said:This is all setting up nicely for Holsgrove to join Preston.6 -
Goes back as far as Curbs not showing them the training ground!fenaddick said:One of our managers in the last few years spoke about wanting players you have to convince a bit, might have been Jones but might have been Deano. Obviously there’s nuance to it but the idea was that if you convince a player to join you who had their expectations higher then they might be of a higher quality. No idea how well that translates though0 -
Outside of the big names in Portugal, the league isn’t great. Estoril are captained by Joao Carvalho who had a couple of good seasons at Forest in the championship before struggling. I’d say the quality of their squad is comfortably worse than ours. I think it’d be a progressive signing but would expect some time needed to adjust and definitely don’t think it’s a guaranteed success or upgradedoronron said:

This has been outright denied, he never once mentioned him apparently and you’ve been called a “malicious liar”DDOUBLEE said:
A few years ago, he was banging on about how we MUST SIGN Alex Davey, a centre-back on the books of Chelsea, as he was so talented and was better than anything we had. Thought I'd check on Mr Davey right now. Retired at 31 years of age. Never played higher than League One level. So I don't take much stock in his views on players really.Covered_End_Lad said:The bloke on the other forum already claiming Kamara and Holsgrove are overrated before we’ve ever signed either of them.
Doesn’t it get boring being constantly negative no matter what the club does? Convinced he doesn’t actually support Charlton.Dont worry, you aren’t.
So you don't like the fella. Go tell him over there instead of banging on about it here please. The mods have always been clear they don't want this crap posted here.
If he winds you up then why even go I. The other forum to look. It's a bit odd.

Absolutely. The defence of Docherty on this board is absurd. He was our weak link in 2024-5 and again in 2025-6. No other Championship club would touch him with a barge pole.Chunes said:Feel like Docherty's contribution at this level is getting a little overstated. He put on some battling performances last season but really he is not a defensive powerhouse and the stats back that up. He runs and he tries, but otherwise he generally struggles to impact a game and we all saw that for the majority of last season. I think NJ saying "We need a midfielder who can control a ball" was an unintended swipe at him. And his passing stats are amongst the worst in the entire league. He is in the lowest 3% of players in the league for successful passes per 90 minutes. (!) If he left us, fairly sure he wouldn't be staying in the Champ.
Yes, he does win his share of tackles and intercepts, but the thing is, he invariably loses or gives away the ball immediately afterwards. Anderson had the same problem and we moved him on, although at his age he could have improved, whereas Docherty is only going to get worse each season.

I've got absolutely no issue with a player who waits out his possible options to see what becomes available. A player will always be looking for the best option for him whether it's financial, professional or personal. If anything the fact that a team maintained interest throughout, kept contact and was undeterred by the initial refusal can be something the player appreciates as other options fall away15

I think we'll get Holsgrove, no inside info, but it's playing out like the Kelman transfer did last year.1

I actually agree. I think doc gets a bit of leeway because he always puts in a shift especially off the ball and is clearly a great character, but on it he’s just not good enough imo, always has to take too many touches. I’m surprised Coventry gets more hate, when I’ve seen Coventry at least try to make things happen with his passing and is better in possession.wolfgang said:

What about Anderson at Blackpool.fenaddick said:Some more stats to add to that post is that Holsgrove makes the same amount of interceptions and more tackles per 90 than Coventry while giving away fewer fouls and winning a higher % of ground duels. He’s not a luxury player, he does the dirty work.
I’ say he needs legs next to him and that’s Doc not Coventry3 -
Agree that the Portugese league may not be all that and that there are only three strong sides but if he is pulling the numbers he is at one of the smaller clubs that is to his credit, surely? (No, "and don't call me Shirley" jokes please)Ferryman said:
Don't see much depth beyond Benfica, Porto and Sporting.CAFCsayer said:Seems cheap even at 3mio EUR... This is someone with some of the best stats in the Portuguese Prem, not a tinpot Serbian league
I know next to nothing about him but we're not flush enough to buy ready made Championship players (Grant and McSpanner were on frees) so we have to find value elsewhere.
There is a risk but if it pays off we've got a more than decent player for circa £3m.
If not, we've got another JRC.
