Godden is miles better than Dykes. The rest of our strikers not so much. Kelman, Miles have got potential but haven’t realised it yet.
Tell me what is so much better then?

Surprised by that,  as he wasn't good enough for Birmingham and didn't look like the sort of player who would attract the attention of a promotion chasing side.

Yes he gives them more depth, but Millwall still have to meet the EFL squad rules like we have to.

His ability to spend 75% of last season in the treatment room. Unpopular opinion but we should have been ruthless with him as well.

The cope on here is insane

Have people watched Leaburn so far in the PSFs?

Dykes would have improved our squad quite easily
Where does he get into this team?

There are far more pressing positions than upfront. We should not waste one of those spaces on someone like Dykes

Maybe he would’ve, but watching us play with Dykes on the pitch was often very painful. We can’t do another season of lumping it to him and Leaburn and hoping it sticks - we’ll go down like that.

Dykes is pretty solid in the air, runs around quite a bit, but shoots and passes like a League One player. He just isn’t that good.

He is, just about, a viable option in this league. If he wanted more money than we were prepared to offer then I’m really not too fussed about him not signing back on.

Let’s hope the recruitment team have been looking at other options.
Some of our better football was with him linking up play, his goal when he played the 1-2 with Kelman, his knockdowns late on in the season, we were mainly lumping it up to him because Docherty and Coventry can't pass the ball properly. He would have been a decent addition to our attacking options if we had the squad space for him, and something different to the rest. Godden and Kelman are poachers, Kanu and Mbick are young and raw, Leaburn doesn't know what he wants to be, but isn't a target man. Dykes as a focal point with wingers and a proper 10 feeding off him would have looked better than the 352 we played last season

Some of the Docherty comments over the last few days are a bit close to being muggy.

He played a big part in getting us into the Champ and keeping us there. He’s a model pro and loves wearing the Charlton shirt.

Of course we want to improve and would welcome a better technical player, but don’t be a dick about it.
It has been interesting seeing people talk about Coventry and Docherty as if it's Crofts and Foley. It's like that thing where injured players get better the longer they're out but the opposite, where people start talking about them like they're not even footballers the longer the close season goes on. It's just the way following a team is now; all players are either the best or worst thing ever and everything has to happen immediately or it's a disaster. Embarrassing lack of perspective

I Understand the move on a personal and family level for Dykes, but regardless, its left a bitter taste in the mouth that a player we’ve helped out and let train with us for fitness has gone to our rivals down the road. Brutal

Let's not forget how the official Twitter account couldn't stop posting about him during the world cup. Another worldy from "LET'S TAME THE TERRIERS"

Well seeing as Kelman is injured, Kanu and Mbick aren't ready to lead the line, and he's better than Leaburn, he's at least on the bench, and would probably be starting if we switch to 352 or Godden picks up a knock (very likely at his age)
  • Dykes isn't good enough for us remember.....
He’s going to be their 3/4 choice striker and would’ve likely been our first.

    He’s not good enough
But can we afford anyone better? Unless you’ve got a live link to our player budget accounts, you’ll be guessing.

Lyndon Dykes is not worth one of our very limited squad spaces.
  • I am happy that we didn't sign Dykes up to anything beyond a 1 year deal.

He's a decent battering-ram option off the bench, so perfect for Millwall.

I know Dykes is marmite, but will we sign better than him, with our budget?
I'd rather play Kanu or Mbick.

So far as I understand it, we're responsible to let him train at Sparrows Lane aren't we? - As we were his last club - I remember when Roger Johnson got released and was training at Sparrows Lane as well a good few years ago, and it got mentioned under similar circumstances.

    1 Year Deal.

Apparently turned down a longer deal with us.
We never made an offer according to NJ

He's movement outsider the box's in to the channel is okay. He movement in the box's is a run to near posted and that's about it. I don't think he finishing is that good and would be exposed over full season at this level. So I don't really get your point that he is so much better. Dykes who would be more effective lead the line in this system and style.

We are located very close to each other so it cannot be a location thing, and a one year contract does not scream financial security either.

I think the fact we offered him a long term deal suggests probably not.
I quite liked him at times but not all that bothered about missing out on him. I think the ego takes a bit more of a hit just because he’s chosen Millwall over us but can’t really blame him given both clubs situations at the moment.
His maths can't be that good if he turned down a multi year deal for a 1 year one.

    Say we were paying him £10k p/wk over 2 years  = £1m

    Millwall paying him £15k p/wk over 1 year = £750k.

Unless Millwall were paying substantially more than we were.

What a nice lovely club we are letting Dykes train with us before he goes to them lot down the road 🥺🥺🥺
Who cares?  An extra body in training isn't a terrible thing, and I'm also glad we've not signed him.

Depends what sort of signing on fee they've offered as well, isn't necessarily just about the contract length for a freebie

Offering him a long term deal is odd when NJ has said we have 2 signings left and he wants a CM & RW. There’s clearly more going on than they’re willing to say

We know you would Ronnie. Just like you'd rather have Apter over Campbell, JRC over Anderson, and so on

Jesus fucking wept man. Do I need to explain this to you? Genuinely?

He's more than likely anticipating getting another contract somewhere next year.
