NJ “Last year, as was documented, we had probably the second lowest budget. With the teams that have come up now and the investment that is going on, we won’t be too dissimilar to that [again].

GC “We want to move the wage bill up towards the third quartile. Whether we will be bottom of the third quartile or top of the fourth quartile, I don’t know. We were second or third lowest wage bill last season.”

    Which is it??
I only have a vague memory of this but don’t EFL clubs anonymously submit their player budgets so they can work out where they sit compared to the rest of the league? If I’ve not completely imagined that then perhaps GC made those comments before the results are back or is holding back.
Both of those quotes were made this week regarding our budget
That's it! Keep searching for something to beat the club up with...

Why are so many so called 'supporters' constantly looking for something to moan about? Isn't this the opposite of 'supporting'? As in 'undermining'?

Maybe we should form an 'Official Charlton Athletic Underminers Group'. Golfie could be honorary life president...
Seems like you are looking for something to moan about, this time other moaners.
Well I'm fed up with you moaning about people who moan about moaners...

My wife is good friends with edozies mum. Bizarrely had a kick about with him and his brother (Thomas who’s at wolves) in my back garden. They were nothing special 😂 half tempted to get the wife to text the mum and see what’s what.
Any word from Linda Edozie yet @stop_shouting

Current players that would count towards the 25 man squad limit:

    Kaminski, Mannion, Brooks

Ramsay, McNamara, Asiimwe, Jones, Sichenje, Burke, Bell, Koumetio, Edwards, Mesik

    Coventry, Docherty, Rakin-Costello, Knibbs, Carey

    Apter, Campbell, Grant, Alli

    Godden, Leaburn, Kelman, Tanto, Kanu

    Players that would not count:
    Gough, Enslin, Mwamba, Fuller, Mbick

That’s a total of 32 players with 27 counting towards the limit.

We can assume Asiimwe, Tanto, and Kanu will
move on. Brings the total down to 24. Ideally we need to move on another one or two on top of those 3 mentioned.

Important to note that as far as I understand, any loan players signed, no matter of age, count towards the 25 man squad.

For us to sign at least 2 players, ideally we need at least 3 (we’ve covered the positions), we need at least 4 players to leave.

Lots of work to do before we can finalise a squad.

Let’s hope we get a bit of movement over the next day or two and can see things start to take shape.

I can see Brooks heading out on loan.
I can't, NJ loves having 3 keepers, it's why we brought him in when we let AMB go

Every team has 3 keepers and that why Brooks won't go out on loan without a replacement number 3.
We need any money for wages for a midfielder as well as a possible transfer fee.
If you have an injury to a keeper, followed by a red card, then you're down to youth team keepers.

That's why all teams have 3 keepers.

Just my opinion, it seems to me that the sale of TC will allow us to sign a CM with a decent fee. What are fans thoughts, if that turns out to be correct?
Think NJ made it pretty clear TC going nowhere unless he tells the club his not signing a new contract..

Considering there was no guarantee TC would be sold in the first place, I’m assuming we still had money in the bank left to spend on a midfielder.

With Grant, Alli and hopefully a very good RW TC isn’t essential as he was last year with no other alternatives obviously TC isn’t a waste of space but also frees up a squad space as well for one of the new signings

We keep hearing that the budget is similar to last year. We've spent about £2m in fees and other than Grant I doubt anyone we've brought in is on a hugely high wage. We must already have enough set aside to pay a decent fee for a CM without selling TC. I get the feeling that if he does move it will be because we're unwilling to lose him at the end of his contract and be at the mercy of a tribunal fee rather than needing him to move to create funds now.

Is it even a tribunal fee these days? Are there not set development fees?

I think there are still funds for a decent transfer fee. I think our budget hasn’t just gone up with Grants wages though, we’re going to have a bigger squad so that’s a bigger wage budget just on that. Plus they are probably leaving some room for hefty pay rises for Jones, Ramsay and TC which hopefully get sorted after the window closes

Youve got to feel for this poor player who's been stuck in a medical since Tuesday, has the doc locked him in the MRI machine?
We're turning Chalobah into the 6 million dollar man. Fully bionic midfielder.

I think the set fees are based on young players who have not yet played in a first team. Tribunal will set the fee for a player like TC who has made first team and international appearances

If I was a Lincoln fan I wouldn't be happy though, losing Moylan to relegation rival and then signing Tanto is a bad few days
I’d imagine they’ve done it based on how he performed against them in league one. I’m pleased they’re signing him though as it suggests they’re struggling to recruit better.
He played six minutes in a 1-0 loss against them last season. He did score against them in both games the previous season for Stockport though, one win and one loss
When we were promoted via the playoffs I think it’s fair to say that most of us thought we had very much a league one squad and our recruitment up until January didn’t really alter that fact. Tanto was bought by us because we thought / hoped  he could make the step up and sadly that hope didn’t materialise. Prior to signing for us he did very well at Stockport, enough for us to take a calculated gamble on him and it’s strange that he didn’t do better in his loan. Confidence knocked maybe but I think Lincoln are looking past his bad season with us and signing the player we thought we’d signed. They don’t have a big budget and I think it’s a calculated gamble for them too. They’ll start next week with basically a league one squad and I wouldn’t write them off as relegation certs just yet. We were the same until January and we survived.
We're a much bigger club than Lincoln though. Whether it's fair or not, players will look at the likes of us, Cardiff and Bolton, and see Championship teams, but see Lincoln as a L1 team. A small stadium, and I imagine a basic training ground too.

That’s exactly the same as players looking at Norwich and Millwall for example and see them as a better bet than us. That certainly makes life harder in recruiting as I think we’re currently finding out but Lincoln dominated their division last season. Have momentum and no doubt will instil a siege mentality. Assuming they’re going to be whipping boys is I think a little arrogant.
I don't see them as whipping boys but I do still think that realistically they are probably going back down. They may very well do what we did last year and get off to a flying start based on their momentum and togetherness from promotion but also like us will find a full Championship season, against established Championship sides and the ex-Prem teams with their squads and finances is a very different prospect.

I think they will fight hard and probably take a few scalps along the way but staying up will be one hell of an achievement.
That's how I see them, team spirit and togetherness only takes you so far in a brutal league. Especially as they've lost the manager responsible for their overachievement, which won't help recruitment either.

Thinking a team will go down, doesn't mean you think they'll be stuffed every week. I can see Lincoln taking a few scalps, but getting relegated with 35 to 40 points.

    Estoril’s first league game tonight.

In the pre match press conference, their manager did not deny interest in a couple of their most important players and said that they obviously do not control the market and who comes in for their players but he’d want to have situations sorted out sooner rather than later, the sooner replacements can arrive the sooner they can integrate and make a difference for their team. He says they know that players come and go, that’s part of football and they have to be prepared to not get caught off guard.

Doc clearly doesn't want his midfield replacement to sign for us.

RC - Isaac Olaofe loan move to Lincoln City is set to contain an option to buy.

#cafc striker had a fair bit of League One loan interest.

Believe Lincoln's offer was only one accepted.

I hate ‘options’ to buy rather than ‘obligations’ as it’s lose - lose for the selling club really.

If they’re shit then they don’t buy them.

if they’re amazing they buy them and you don’t get the benefit as it’s pre-agreed fee.

If they were amazing and only on loan then you get back a more valuable player.

Where is the benefit for us? Rather it was a perm or a straight loan- none of this option nonsense!

Most obligations only kick after X number of appearances so you can get into scenarios where the loan club is disincentivised to play the player (see Harvey Elliott last season). Neither are perfect but having an option is better than no option in my opinion

If Olaofe keeps Lincoln up and it sends us down would he become a tantomime villain?
Lincoln would be having Olafe for sure tho

I think Oalafe will do well at Lincoln. They have a good track record of turning average players into half decent players. All down to the coaching and style of play.

I remember when Blackpool had an option to buy on Charlie Kirk agreed and then ended up cancelling because they wanted to lowball us and eventually didn’t happen in the end of course.

All done & dusted by then.

Tanto can just hop in the coach for a lift home.

The benefit is that, apart from the fact there's no realistic scenario where Tanto comes back as a superstar we want to keep or sell for a higher fee, we need him gone and that's the deal we could negotiate. If we don't shift Tanto then he's not getting registered in the squad and we're just paying him wages to sit around and it's less we can spend on another player. Instead he goes to Lincoln, they pay hopefully all or at least a large portion of his wages and potentially there's an agreed fee that's acceptable to us built in. We can cry over potential lost money next summer if he turns out to be the next Messi after all but the benefits of the deal now are potentially huge for us in our squad building

Looking forward to this. I hope we don't need a win but there's a great pie restaurant half way up Steep Hill and The Strugglers next to the castle is a brilliant pub
