He’s a right wingback Ferry plays on the left unfortunately. Also doesn’t say on the announcement post that he’s capable as playing both wingback positions but can as a cbCallumcafc said:I see that Dundee announced a wing back signing from Australia today - perhaps covering for an impending exit…0 -
Yep. Sell our top goalscorer 🤷♂️.Siv_in_Norfolk said:Word on the grapevine up here is that there have been a few offers for Carey and it's possible he'll leave this summer

That’s completely untrue .. we only had one offer for any of our players from Jan and that was Coventrygolfaddick said:

Last time we sold our top goalscorer after finishing on 53 points we got promoted the following summer…golfaddick said:

Be mad to sell Carey. Pace, aggression and an eye for goal. Without those attributes we’d be watching a team of Conor Coventrys politely jogging about play ultra safe sideways passes. I’d build a team around Carey.6

Build a team around him is a bit of a stretch. Definitely capable and f being part of a good mid table Champ team but not the main playerTomCAFC said:Be mad to sell Carey. Here we go, three more pages about nothing, yes yes Carey is going, no he aint. Siv, I presume 'up here' is Norfolk ? And it's news to me that the Wells on Sea/Gorleston, Etc etc has a grapevine.0

Interesting tweet from Kayne:
Season had its challenges, but the fight never stopped. Proud of the resilience from the boys and the way we stuck together through it all. There’s a lot to build on, and we’re coming back stronger next season. Appreciate all the support from the fans — it never goes unnoticed ❤️

I like the use of we're in that particularly and yes I am perfectly capable of over analysing anything1

He's staying then. Unless it's a cryptic message. Pleased for him to stay. Still young and let's not forget the amount of game/promotion changing challenges he made. Without him we wouldn't be in the Championship. A dip in form doesn't make you a bad player any more than those challenges should send him to the World Cup.stonemuse said:Interesting tweet from Kayne:

I don’t think it means anything either way. From his POV he’s got a contract here next season so will play for us next season as it stands. I still think him leaving is the more likely outcome of this summerup_the_valley said:

The bloke who played right wing back for Dundee Utd in their last match is either footed. They may plan to have him move over to the left and this bloke to play on the right. : -)Crispywood said:

I know the Charlton life scouting network only goes as far as former players so how about Karlan Grant?
positives - experienced in the championship with some premier league experience.Negatives - I would get wound up with people calling him KAG despite him dropping the Ahearn part a long time ago!!0 -
Positives: I believe he's brought the Ahearne part backTodds_right_hook said:I know the Charlton life scouting network only goes as far as former players so how about Karlan Grant?

Had a surgery in February, last couple of times I've seen him he seems to have lost a step of pace too, not sure if that's what we need0

If only 1.5m, I would keep him.cafc_se7 said:
I’d be amazed if we get that much. 1.5m max. He has been complete value for money!Leuth said:
The usual Charlton fallacy I see, better the devil you know. If someone offers 3-4m for Carey, snap their hand offcafc_se7 said:I can’t believe some of these comments on Carey. You lot must live in dreamland if you think we easily get somebody else in who’s better. Particularly for “3 million”.1 -
No chance. Hearts even want him twice.NabySarr said:
Unfortunately think we’ve missed our chance there. Not sure we ever had one tbh as would have been up against Birmingham, Hearts and now Sheffield United, Hearts and probably moreCrispywood said:Year 3 of begging the club signs Marc Leonard0 -
Agreed. Also don't think it follows that any progress in terms of style would mean fewer goals from Carey. Probably does mean fewer shots, but mainly the long range speculative and often blocked shots he takes because we have no ability to break a team down or create. No reason to think he wouldn't still be popping off high qualify shots from the edge of the area, which is where almost all of his goals came from, or crashing the box which is what NJ always asks of his 10NabySarr said:
I really think people are overestimating how much this is going to change. The evolution will just be back towards the kind of team we were the back end of last season and early part of this season. A more effective team and one that creates more chances yes, but we aren’t going to fundamentally change how we play and start passing through teams. The Carey role is not going to change much, Jones has always wanted energetic attacking midfielders that can press and score goals, that isn’t going to change. If we lost Carey, we’d use Knibbs in the same way and recruit a similar replacementCallumcafc said:Callumcafc said:Carey took 92 shots this season, the most at the club by some distance (TC second with 63).So yes he scored a decent number of goals but our entire team was built around setting him up for strikes (sitting on the edge of the box at corners etc.).
He’s a good player and offers something no one else at the club does, but I’d be disappointed if he was our #1 shot taker next season too.
Outputs (goals scored) were high (top 9%) because the inputs (shots taken) were high (top 6%).
If our style of play evolves next season, as we all hope it should, I’d think Carey will see a significant decrease in number of shots he takes across the full season. That would mean that 8 goals this season is a very good return and he’s unlikely to match that again going forward. If he wants to be part of that evolution he’ll need to contribute more than just goals - he’ll need to become a more effective creator and link between defence and attack.
I can obviously see the argument for keeping him but also see the argument for “cashing in” if the offer is large enough.0 -
On Soccer Saturday last weekend it was indeed Ahearn-Grant when he scored.SDAddick said:
