A friend of mine was at the Preston training ground this morning.

He confirmed to me the two clubs agreed a fee but TC refused to move up north, which is good news for now but suggests negotiations on a contract extension have not gone well and the club have no option but to cash in
IF THIS IS TRUE…then if he does not want to be here then get rid of him.  I’ve always liked TC however if he doesn’t want to continue his journey with Charlton cash in, as soon as a player doesn’t want to sign an extension then unfortunately their heads are turned.  I hope it’s not true and your friend hasn’t confirmed anything with their recruitment team, groundsman, canteen staff, kitman, ballboys.

He’s got to agree to the move though, we can accept an offer like it sounds like we have from Preston, but TC doesn’t have to leave if he doesn’t want to

Hopefully if he does stay, we can have a good enough season that convinces him we are a club that can match his ambition
With respect to some of these players, we are a good option for them, and it's not like they are doing us the favour.

These players are getting the opportunity to play 40+ games a season and a chance to progress their careers, and let's be honest, with the exception of Lloyd, none of them have looked outstanding for us, just useful at best I would honestly say.

I think the only player you could make a case for moving on is Lloyd as he is in his 30s, probably will only get 1 or 2 more good contracts and proved he is one of the best in the league in his role.

I think the rest need to take a good look at some players who have left and completely stagnated.
That’s your view, but if we aren’t going to be pushing up the championship table then if you are TC or Ramsay and you have probably got interest from championship clubs higher up the league table then you’re obviously going to be interested. They will want to play as high as they can in their careers, if we are standing still then why would they sign for us?

Because they haven't proven themselves in this league.

Ramsay had more average games than good games, and had a few clangers. TC got poor returns for a forward last season, 3 times less than his output in the league below and if we are being honest, he wasn't exactly in the "too good for league 1" category either.

They're both lower end Championship players currently, I think they should stay at the club where they both have the best opportunities to build their careers. Moving now would be costly imo. Only Jones deserves a big move from any of our players currently. The rest have work to do and are fortunate to be at Charlton.

I rate them both before that is queried btw, just think they aren't ready to go a step above yet.

I don't see TC staying purely because we're meant to be signing another winger to play on the right like Apter, and that leaves us with TC, Grant and Alli who are predominantly left wingers, I know Grant is a striker but dont think he'll play there often. I just don't see us keeping 3 left wingers when squad size is a problem at the moment

A lot of smoke that Archie Collins agent is requiring 15k a week to asking clubs. Makes a lot more sense why he hasn't been picked up yet even by a top league 1 club or bottom end Champ. The audacity of some of these agents.

This should surely highly the argument that TC & Kayne are well within their rights to look for more money if this is what a player who's proved himself as a good league one player and nothing more can demand?

Footballers are naturally very ambitious people. Even a shy person like TC will have a lot of belief that he can play at a higher level. If it doesn’t work out they just end up back at the lower championship level

Unless we as a club show them we are going to be pushing on towards that, then they aren’t going to sign a contract here. They are good enough to have interest from championship clubs that are showing that ambition

Maybe you don’t think they are ready yet, but after another season they might well be? I think both would also be better players in teams that play better football. Again that’s on us this season to show them we can be that team for them

I don’t mind our summer business, I think we’ve been smart with what we have and will stay up. It seems to me that until we get additional investment, unless Jones works a miracle (which is possible), we are probably going to be hovering around the bottom half of the championship just staying up. That won’t be enough to keep the likes of Ramsay and TC here

Glad Kaminski is off. Hopefully a senior keeper is lined up and Brooks can go get a loan somewhere.

If TC doesn't want to sign then we should do what we can to cash in on him, even a cut price fee in January. I know it's his right to run down his contract but it makes no less annoying after the club have funded his football education since he was a young lad.

Fuck Jordan bloody Holsgrove. If you don't wanna be here then keep playing for a bang average team if you don't have the foresight to use Charlton as a stepping stone!

So basically TC has sort of screwed us wont sign a deal but won’t let us sell him to make a decent profit at the same time
Alternative view is that the club didn’t rate him high enough earlier in his career and waited until he was in the final year of his contract to offer him a new one.

TC has every right to finish his contract and sign somewhere else.
Club could’ve released him before Jones turned him into the player he is today - he should be signing the contract.
Jones has in no way boosted TC's career. He has fucked him about for years not playing him in his best position. He has sometimes overplayed him because he signed a succession of wankers who were incapable of replacing him when he was exhausted or carrying a knock.  TC owes him no favours.

Generally I don't think it comes down to wanting to go to a club because it finished eight positions higher than us, it's normally length of contract and better pay, no different to any of us really.

2 years ago I had, through a mutual connection,  a verbal agreement that Yann Kermorgant would come and do a spot of coaching /consulting in the dark arts because he was an absolute master at it.  Sadly the club knew better and said it was already in hand. We got Danny Hylton.
Such a shame, even mastering that element of his game would make such a difference.

Now is the summer of our discontent
Made glorious winter by this sun of Nairobi.

How quickly a couple of signings change the mood or least briefly quieten the doubters.

Jones said seven signings and we've signed seven with one more on the cards, maybe two if the Kaminski rumours have any substance.

Under promise, over deliver is always a good policy or "keep your powder dry" as some might say.

We've strenghtened in most areas and have more depth.

Nearly all the ingrediants of the dessert have been assembled and the Jones the Baker can now cook them as he pleases but as ever the proof of the pudding will be in the eating.
I'm sorry, but this won't do. As an English Literature Major....no, no, no!

I approve of the effort, but not the execution.

It should be something more like:

Good, now, stay behind and write it out 100 times on the blackboard.

If Kaminski is off then we're playing a dangerous game letting it happen this late. We've been absolutely rubbish at signing keepers in the past few years; Mannion came in as backup to an experienced number 1 in 24/25. We didn't get Walton, we apparently had Adam Davies booked in for a medical but instead he chose to leverage that into a new deal to sit on his arse at Sheffield Utd, we were in for and then missed out on Karl Hein and ended up with just Mannion and AMB. We managed to get Kaminski in fine last season but I'd be concerned about the repeat possibility of us trying to get someone to replace Kaminski while relying on Mannion and then running the risk of having him as our number 1 until January if we continue to fail at getting a keeper in. There's Premier League kids like Setford and maybe Whitworth but you'd imagine most of the keeper movement has already happened for this window

Selling Tyreece would be a massive mistake.
getting rid of Miles would be a massive mistake

both are happy here and wouldn’t be the same fit wherever they go but, more importantly, both are excellent players and this “click” we are waiting for could be spectacular.  Miles in particular because we ce o ly seen it in flashes.  One problem is body language - his languid style makes him look lazy but he’s one of our fastest players.  His biggest problem is he is NOT his father and is not a target man.  If we play to his strengths there’s no reason he can’t be as good or better than Morgan Whittaker as he has a lot of talent and potential still

if miles and TC get more adventurous players around them we’ll see the best of them
You say it’s a mistake who’s it not the club they offered TC new contract and Jones has said many times he wants him to stay .. Be honest Jones was to loyal to him last season when most managers would have dropped him so he does owe Jones who stood by him .. we shall see what TC thinks of this club or is he another one of a long line who think their better then they are and disappear in a year or two …. Time will tell
Good post, spot on in every respect.
